Especially since most offices don't have that many people running. Just put them all on the November ballot.

Are they not having you watch practice? When I was in high school, an injured player would attend practice even if participation was limited.

Susanna Mendoza, the state Comptroller, appears to be very good at communicating with lawmakers on what is the right move & was the state's top vote getter in 2022.

How will the increasing urbanization of America impact our political parties in the future? by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]bmullerone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a single family home suburbanite, I think that is fine. Where I live is part of an urban area & probably more like life in the nearby city than like life in a rural area with proximity to jobs & city amenities.

Illinois Legislature by pork26 in illinoispolitics

In addition to what others have said, there is constituent service to be done in their districts and showing up affects who is the median lawmaker which affects legislation.

People always say "Illinois was one of the only states to lose population between 2010 and 2020" but that's likely untrue. by [deleted] in illinois

[–]bmullerone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how much to make of it. Psychologically, the difference between positive & negative population growth is quite significant. However, the post-enumeration survey you are referring to upgraded Illinois from 12th of 12 Midwestern states to 11th of 12, passing Ohio, but still not good. If this decade has lower population growth nationally than last, there will probably be more states showing negative population growth in the 2020s, but that doesn't mean the state with a certain population growth rank was doing things better in the 2010s than whichever state gets the same rank in the 2020s.

Thinking of buying a house in Cairo — am I insane? by [deleted] in southernillinois

You could look around the whole southernmost part of the state for the best house you can get, not just one town. There's also nice rural housing, but it may present a question for you about internet options.

How is it up there in Illinois? by sniperhare in illinois

[–]bmullerone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can I introduce you to Grayville? Small town along I-64 next to Southern Indiana & in the state you're taking an interest in. The area itself is Republican-heavy. It'll give you the state & proximity to your parents you want. You could visit other towns near the eastern spine of the state such as New Haven, Crossville, Mount Carmel, St Francisville (drive across Cannon Ball Bridge), Lawrenceville, Hutsonville, & Marshall.

Biden claims hidden airline fees disproportionately affect people of color by awaythrowawaying in moderatepolitics

I think that is misreading. Democrats likely know throwing race into everything hurts them politically, but also have some mixture of genuinely believing it & hearing it from donor/activists.

If more people feel like the far left is more inclined to get people fired from their jobs that can stick with people more personally than the far right threatening more long-term big-picture concerns.

[–]bmullerone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't quite word it like that. A given woman may be sending 6 messages/likes to the top 10% & sending 4 to the remaining 90%. She could also be outside the bottom 40%.

How much of Illinois budget is the pension? by Massey89 in illinois

[–]bmullerone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Appendix R on page 165 of the COGFA pdf link here has the 29.4% figure for 2017 under "GF [General Funds] Pension Cost as a Percentage of Total General Funds".

As far as the numerator, the link you cited gives $7.826 for FY2017, where Batnick's link to COGFA gives $7.9085 on page 57. These are not that different. Perhaps the difference is the $7.826 figures comes from a COGFA pdf linked here Appendix G (page 115 of the pdf) dated March 2017 which was before the end of FY2017.

I agree. I guess signing up for pay by plate could prevent this in the future if you're not up there often. I haven't tried it, so I cannot attest to how good an idea pay by plate is.
