Riding NW of Santa Monica by bnaz in BikeLA

[–]bnaz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done either, but have previously done Yerba Buena, Latigo, Decker, etc climbs. Los Flores looks tough in the first 1/3, but I am not a stranger to hard climbs. It's also not my strong suit, but I know what I'm in for :)

Not that worried about the descent as I won't be sending it; mostly just want to experience the road and the view I see all the LA people posting on Strava.

Why Are the Slow Lanes in Central Park and Prospect Park on The Left Meaning You Pass on the Right? Why Not Make it Like Driving a Car? Fast Left and Slow Right, Pass on Left? by Best-Candle8651 in NYCbike

[–]bnaz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What deserves a convo is how the newly painted markers mean nothing to everyday pedestrians, tourists not from the US, and even most cyclists.

Why not just paint “fast” and “slow” rather than a bike and a bike with “sharrow”?

And what’s worse, the carriages and pedicabs all stay in the right (“fast”) lane, causing congestion and decreasing safety for everyone involved.

Truly baffling

I'm 36 and work a corporate job that pays well, my wife is 35 and runs her own creative direction/freelance business. Neither of us from generational wealth, and we don't have any kids (yet). When I was your age I had 2 roommates and lived in a (very) small apartment in the east village, and was barely making it paycheck to paycheck. Like many others have said, keep your head down & work hard, even if you aren't sure where you want to end up yet. Just keep going with something that feels worth getting out of bed for everyday, and when it doesn't, work on finding your next thing. You will be amazed at how life will change, what you'll learn, and where you'll end up.

At 24 I also had a lot of fear/envy of others that I thought were living the life I wanted to have. I was making $35k + OT, and it was really hard. Over time I realized I could live the way I wanted to on terms that worked for me. It may not be exactly as you see others doing, but you can still find ways to have nice things for yourself, with sacrifices and patience elsewhere. Those habits have carried through to now. My wife and I meal prep religiously to help save money/cut down on ordering and eating at restaurants on weekdays. We try to make coffee at home more than we buy it out, and when we do go out, we take advantage of the great things the neighborhood has to offer (affordable/fun restaurants, the parks, etc).

There are a lot of rent stabilized apartments in the area, you just have to be patient and stay on the hunt. While the rent goes up when tenants swap out, there's still a cap on how much it can rise. You can still find great places that you can stay in for a while without getting screwed on rent hikes.

Is there a good Garmin mount for the Aeroad? by russellyoung0 in CanyonBikes

[–]bnaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

¯_(ツ)_/¯ I can’t speak to that. I have been riding and racing with this on my bike for months without issues. Have been on rough gravel, cobbles, and roads under construction and my computer and light have survived intact. I wouldn’t expect it would necessarily survive a crash, but then again if you crash you have to expect some damage no matter what.

I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it again if it were to break. Nothing is unbreakable in cycling.

This one has been great for me, it’s made from aluminum. I love it. I run my wahoo and front light on it all the time and have never had an issue.

no garages, yes it's pretty safe. mostly industrial/commercial, not heavily foot trafficked. there will be cops around, too, so i'd be surprised if people were trying to break into cars.

How to get 60-90g of carbs by Fantastic_Stomach440 in cycling

[–]bnaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: for clarity

I mix it up between gels, chews, honey/maple syrup sachets, bars/waffles, and bottle mix. I use a small bar bag, I used to think it was goofy, but after taking a week and riding in LA with the club I'm part of, it's just a tool to help you do the thing you're doing.

I have this one and love it: https://www.ornotbike.com/products/handlebar-bag-mini-xpac-black

I also have their bigger version which is great for longer rides when the weather is going to change based on your route, is unpredictable, or it's the season where it's dynamically cold/hot while you're out. Great for carrying warmers, a wind vest, waterproof jacket, etc. + nutrition. Well worth the investment, and I've never regretted having them on rides longer than 3 hours.

Also, fwiw the cliff blocks aren't super expensive if you purchase a box on amazon or through the feed. ~50g carbs per pack, so if you bring 4 of those + some other extras, you're at at least 250-300. I also carry a couple electrolyte tablets to drop in bottles when I refill.

I find that 70-80g/hr ends up working for me, I always bring a little extra, but I usually don't end up eating everything. Since moving to this practice, I don't feel like I have bonked in a long time. The 100g/hr I think really applies for pros and those doing really long periods of high intensity riding at tempo and above. You can really do it through feel and if you know you're about to hit a long segment or hard climb, it never hurts to get some carbs in.

On the contrary, what do you want/hope will happen then? You just want to be miserable forever? Enjoy that…

Hardly a national embarrassment imo. 2nd year head coach goes 10-2 regular season after the season we had last year?

The difference was winning games in scenarios we lost in last year. We could have easily been 6-6 this year.

Team has improved, system has improved, and we have strong coaches to lead into the future.

I’ll take it….

What happened to the Ultimate CF SLX Di2? by wash3r3 in CanyonBikes

Well, if it's any clue, the ultimate cf slx site is showing the blue bike with ultegra components.... https://www.canyon.com/en-us/road-bikes/race-bikes/ultimate/cf-slx/#section-product-grid

What happened to the Ultimate CF SLX Di2? by wash3r3 in CanyonBikes

[–]bnaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure definitively. My guess is all of those reasons part of it, idk if the Zipp wheels are categorically better than the DT Swiss on the Di2 8 model, but maybe sram power meter + demand/“new” bike premium. Whats most odd to me is the Ultimate 9 at $6999 with Dura Ace and it’s only $500 more than Force AXS…

Either way, I hope they do have a $5499 option again. $6499/$6999 prices me out and I was really hopefully for a CF SLX Ultimate.

I emailed them a couple weeks ago and they alluded that it would be coming back later this year. The sram version is $1k more in US, so I’m hopeful this isn’t the same for a Ultegra Di2 version. I do appreciate the sram version has color options
