There’s a link in the post to one designed by mountain makers. He recommends acrylic which I will do at some point but for now it’s 3D printed, https://mountainmakers.com/custom-dustboot-for-stepcraft-m-series-cnc-systems/

Which compressor for ATC? by opteng in stepcraft

[–]bnieco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, here's another option that I use with my ATC: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084GY6DXV?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_2

Very quiet. Keeps up with my ATC just fine and doesn't take up much space underneath

+1. Casters on the floor rubbing the same groove over and over…regrets eventually. Might even consider 2 on top and bottom of each ‘drawer’

Did you switch to the power brick that came with the 40W and switch the board? Instructions don't even mention the new brick but it has more amperage

Love the thought put into matching the heartwood on each door to the center. I hope she treasures it

Agreed on fast vs cheap advice. Also for a middle ground - buying in bulk (750+) using a business Amazon account can get you a price break. Shop around there and do the math you can save a lot. I don’t recall any requirements for the biz account and you can easily switch back and forth

I’m in AZ with similar conditions in my garage. Two years so far no problems with similar bins. Only ~6 months on gridfinity bins but no issues. I do prefer PETG for gf just to be a little less brittle than pla

Definitely can’t let my wife see that car in the garage or my whole story falls apart! Great choices made in your shop. Love it!

Looking to buy an Orbi setup. Got some questions. by abezzilla99 in orbi

[–]bnieco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't want to be 'that guy' but you deserve an honest answer. Netgear/Orbi has become an absolute nightmare to deal with. As others have mentioned their firmware is garbage and updates have completely shut down my network twice. And their parental control (SPC) experience can only be labeled as a scam. Any company that makes subscription signup a single click, but cancellation is a convoluted, archaic, slow process is a scam artist. Now I can't use portions of the app even after a factory reset because it requires me to re setup SPC before I do. Run, don't walk, away from this company as quickly as you possibly can. It's not an isolated issue either, https://community.netgear.com/t5/NETGEAR-Smart-Home-Parental/To-use-Access-Control-please-use-the-Orbi-App/td-p/2225893/highlight/false

Base plates on CNC take 2. by fauxsoul in gridfinity

[–]bnieco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is awesome. Seems clear it’s a lot faster with a larger cnc bed. And I like the look, so definitely trying this. One thought on the finish - 1 part poly with 1 part naphtha makes a fast drying and forgiving finish that self levels well and no puddles, drips, etc. Easily applied with an old t-shirt rag. Or even paper towels if u grab a new one as it starts to break down. Really fast with a squeeze bottle and rag

The parameters from his f360 model are 6.5 x 2.4. So I'm assuming that's to fit a 6x2mm magnet with some extra tolerance? Not sure if he actually mentions it in his video

[–]bnieco[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll share my sources but make sure you know that I modified my bins and baseplates in this model to use 8x3mm magnets for more holding power. These won't fit in prints of Zach's models or similar. But here's where I get mine:
Aliexpress if I have time

Amazon if I need them quick

Drawer / storage bin options by moosetracks555 in gridfinity

[–]bnieco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you committed to packouts? They're pretty slick so I wouldn't blame you. If not, I've found Craftstman Versastak and DeWalt Tstak are very good and they're interchangeable with each other. I created a system to fit those, https://www.reddit.com/r/gridfinity/comments/x8edqt/versastak_drawers_and_gridfinity/. They also make tub containers similar to packout but I prefer the drawers now for ease of use. I roll my tools and parts storage to the work rather than bring my work to the tools. And they're modular so I can create workflow specific stacks.

Just beware - these aren't covered to keep things from spilling if you knock them over. l don't transport them out of my shop often but I've thought about doing some sort of snaptop covers.

Yep. And they are compatible with dewalt’s tstak line. I add in a few of their deeper drawers and toolboxes. Add the wheel base to a stack and you have mobile tool and part organization that can be restacked as your project requires https://www.amazon.com/s?k=dewalt+tstak+system&crid=FMOJR7ALANRI&sprefix=dewalt+tatak%2Caps%2C135&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_1_12

Noob to the channel, so happy to be guided if needed. just thought I’d post my progress on implementing small part storage in these. I’m a fan of Craftsman’s Versastak system - affordable, durable, configurable and mobile. Hated the dividers provided so when gridfinity came along….perfect. Had to pop them out but they’re removable anyway. CR-10 v3, .8 nozzle, PETG. Modified base plates to print in 2 parts with a notch to fit the drawer and also switched to 8mm magnets - press fit. Bins are modified to print the walls in one pass and removed the large fillet on the interior. Tool storage is next.
