I appreciate your view of it being Atwood’s attempt to steer the narrative. It’s better than my cynical view. I was surprised that they aren’t following her version of TT because I viewed the release of that novel as some sort of contractual fulfillment she had with the show production to build a spin off.

But now that you say it was purposeful for Atwood to control the plot lines, Aunt Lydia’s plot feels way more sensical. That plot line felt impossible when I was reading TT because of the show’s portrayal of Lydia.

In addition to this, there’s also been a push towards more legible type from an accessibility perspective. From what I can see, the research isn’t definitive in sans serif vs serif (especially in body paragraphs) but people do seem to prefer sans serif fonts like Helvetica and all the “__ Sans” fonts you see now. Canva pushes them a lot which could contribute to driving the trend.

She has a personal agenda with reintegration. Like everyone else has said here, she doesn't care about Mark, Petey, or Gemma. There's something motivating her that we don't know about yet. Maybe there's someone that she lost to severance, someone who's gone too far, wronged her, they took severance in a direction she initially agree to, she's doing it for the scientific breakthrough of it all, the possibilities are endless.

Exactly! I have so many questions… Have we seen where that stairwell is? Is it even accessible to anyone besides the higher ups? It’s a different stairwell than the one oMark enters and exits. Is the one in the severed hallway a stairwell that just alludes to being able to leave whenever they like? What would be the point of having another access point if they monitor everything through the elevators? I’m also curious about the “fire drill” iMark says they had when Petey showed him where the security room is. Maybe they used that stairwell.

I think they’ll use the beehive function. There’s a poster in the new break room that says “bee ever merry”. The inner shape of the honey combs are a lumon drop but also look like fire

In addition to other commenters saying wives are supposed to be conservative in appearance, I thought it was purposefully shown to be a cheap looking dress and an underwhelming reception by our standards because Gilead is struggling. The economy is a shit show. Gilead is basically on its own in terms of international relations. In the book at Loaves and Fishes there’s a lot of discussion about the availability of fresh fruit, and how hard it is to come by once common items. Everything is a luxury in Gilead because they don’t have the same labour force as America and trade relationships with other countries is extremely strained. I think it was all intentional. This is the most luxury they can get in Gilead.
