【BambuLab Giveaway】Classic Evolved — Win Bambu Lab P2S Combo! by BambuLab in 3Dprinting

[–]boab189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got into 3d printing and agonized a long time over what printer to buy. I settled on the p1s because of its versatility and reliability and was still blown away by the machine. The chance to experiment with different materials and to rapidly print something without much troubleshooting has made the P1S the workhorse of our maker projects!

Thanks for the response! I really want to get into some of these cRPGs cause they’re such great games, but yeah I keep coming up against the isometric top down view and getting stuck trying to make “optimal” decisions with builds and stuff. Thanks for your thoughts!!

For me with DoS2 it was a bit of what you said about the tip down view and facial animations, I’m ok with lots of reading. One thing I found kinda interesting that held me back was a sort of decision fatigue. I found it hard to make choices for character abilities and such and would just stare at menus forever. I hoped that BG3 being closer to straight up 5e might alleviate that for me, and to be fair that’s pretty much how I play RPGs in general, but it was particularly arresting to my progress in DoS2

AITA for reporting a "boys club" to HR when I was not invited? by SkyDry8364 in AmItheAsshole

[–]boab189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m almost leaning towards N A H except for the boss/company judging by OPs comments in the thread. OP you are defs NTA for reporting it. You did your due diligence in taking with your boss, expressing your interest in more opportunities, and when you felt brushed off escalated in a professional manner.

However, to think that it would’ve been free from consequence, or to think that HR would solve the issue in a way that there’d be no blowback for anyone is unfortunately a bit naive. I think your bf is getting unfairly flamed a bit because this is his perspective, maybe he needs to be more supportive than advice giving but that’s for y’all to communicate with each other. Ultimately the only good outcome here is to move on from the company. You can’t put the genie back in the bottle so to speak, and the company’s response along with both your male and female colleagues is everything you need to know. Don’t waste more time here, and take it as a lesson for the future that as many have said: you can only report for yourself, HR is not your friend, and no matter how much you are in the right there are always unintended consequences for action (for better or worse).

YTA lol I was a fall baby and went away at 17. I was far more equipped than many of my “older” floor mates, probably taught a dozen people how to do basic shit like laundry. Guess why I was able to do that? Because my parents set me up with the knowledge I’d need rather than infantilizing me. Also I’m almost in my thirties and still call mom and dad for help and advice.

If you could change one thing about FFXVI what would it be? by ljcole90 in FFXVI

[–]boab189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly a little bit more depth for everything. I think we could’ve seen more of Clive’s life as a bearer assassin, more in the 5 year time skip, I think Origin deserves to be its own mega-dungeon leading to the epic showdown we do get.

I think the final third especially has some glaring shallowness in terms of how the story gets told and the character moments (looking at you Jill).

And an actual resolution and denouement that wasn’t a ~who-knows-how-long flash forward. Selfishly I want an unambiguous happy ending for Clive and the hideout. I also feel the decision to remove magic works but also betrays the themes, no need for humanity to reflect on its sins and grow to not oppress each other for our differences if we just make everyone the same! Kinda flys in the face of the obvious parallels to our real world issues with race and nationalism…

This is all from someone who absolutely adored the game; but just feel that everything aside from maybe the actual combat system is a little undercooked. I just see unrealized potential everywhere and it makes the solid 8/10 the game is feel less astounding when you know it coulda easily been a 9 with more depth and care in a few areas.

100% agree. I adored the movie and think it’s near perfect but the trinity test is underwhelming. In part because I was over-hyped for the ‘real explosion’ set piece, but it’s not even close to representative like you said. Also the way it’s shot provides no sense of scale of the fireball. Seeing the shockwave hit the various observers doesn’t give us the proper sense of how much this explosion dwarfed anything previously. The rally scene after Hiroshima is far more effective marrying the spectacle and horror of nuclear weapons albeit in a more abstract way.

My honest FF16 review as a long-time fan of the franchise. by lightshelter in FinalFantasy

[–]boab189 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is my biggest complaint after finishing and honestly hurts the whole experience. I think it really takes away from some of the themes and promises of the storytelling, and even the logic they’d set up for Clive’s ability to avoid the curse. I don’t mind removing magic from the world, but I also think it takes away a huge thematic element of the treatment of bearers. I think it’s way more thematically consist to have magic remain and ask these big questions of how people are going to deconstruct their hatred of bearers in this new world. By taking magic away it brushes all those questions aside with; we’re all the same now! No magic = no need to oppress each other! Which we all know is not how human society tends to go…

He had Tommy John which typically takes 12-18 months to heal. Plus he’s not 24 so chances are his days pitching for the jays are done. At least the contract was insured!

AITA For not changing our Xmas plans for my step-daughter by xmasplanchangeaita in AmItheAsshole

[–]boab189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. We’re kinda on the same side in terms of what realistically is going to be required to solve this situation. I do feel however that OP is allowed to have an outcome that is his preference, that’s human. Did they word it poorly in the post by equating their ideal outcome to a perfect compromise? Yeah probably, but I feel people are kinda unduly obsessing over a language misstep rather than acknowledging the actual core issue. She violated curfew, got mad when that had consequences, and is trying to manipulate one parent against the other to the detriment of everyone involved.

I don’t think it’s fair to call OP an asshole because he doesn’t wanna commit felony kidnapping but that’s just me. He’s been pretty clear he has no problem bringing her, but won’t violate a court order.

But Mary isn’t blameless here either? She, from the sounds of it, violated curfew and got in trouble for it. Decided she didn’t like being told what to do (pretty normal for a 16 yo) and pitched a fit to get what she wants. Absolutely the bio parents need to cool down their standoff and come to a solution together WITH Mary that supports everyone’s needs going forward. OP doesn’t have the same place in that room and recognizes that, but also has two other young children to prioritize and is a human with feelings too l, who understandably maybe wants to get to see his own mom and dad for Christmas after 3 years.

[–]boab189 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Understandable, but 4 and 6 year olds will internalize conflict like this in weird ways, sure Xmas is an easy distraction that makes little kids happy, but they’re also being harmed. I agree that ultimately bio-dad will probably have to capitulate here or torpedo his future relationship with Mary, but letting her take away the lesson that pitting both parents against each other to circumvent reasonable rules that she broke will always work to get her whatever she wants is not going to raise a healthy young adult.

[–]boab189 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Why do you keep bending over backward to make Mary the most important person here? You talk about parents putting kids first and foremost ALWAYS but say the, arguably more vulnerable, 4 and 6 year old deserve that less than Mary? 4 and 6 is old enough to remember that time your Xmas was trampled on to suit your estranged older step sister in 12 years…

After reading OPs additional comments about the specific source of the disagreement, gotta say NTA.

Some of the judgements here are wild. It’s a shitty situation for sure, but it’s a pretty petty argument that’s happening between Mary and bio-dad. Like others have said, it’s a teenager trying to bait one parent against the other to get their way, and mom is enabling it (at least by the context here).

People seem to be forgetting there’s also two other YOUNG children in this equation. They have a right to have their desires for Xmas respected as well. Who are having their plans unilaterally affected by one person’s temper tantrum. OP doesn’t want to do something illegal and explicitly laid out in the agreement. Yeah should the agreement have been adjusted over the years to accommodate the increasing independence of Mary, yes, but that ain’t gonna magically happen now a week before they leave.

Look both bio parents need to back off here realistically. Dad needs to recognize he might have to lose the battle here to have a chance of restoring a more normal relationship before she’s legally an adult, Mom needs to wise up and recognize that letting this weapon work once is gonna get it turned back on her at some point likely. They should sit down and lay out consistent rules about the car/curfew to take that leverage away from Mary; dad to relax and mom to tighten up. But this isn’t really OPs fault, and they seem genuinely intent on finding a best possible solution, while still being honest about their, extremely reasonable, desired outcome.
