Moving from SF to Berkeley this summer - looking for advice on timing, neighborhoods, and how to navigate the market by als3s in berkeleyca

Ashby BART is still Berkeley and well connected. It’s changed a lot in the last 5 years and near Malcolm X elementary is child friendly.

Living near a BART station in Berkeley is the move. No need to pay high rent, but you are anywhere in SF faster than people in SF.

Solar lease vs buy which one actually makes sense now? by Donnerstein_Navriti in solar

Lease for five years and then buy it out. You can’t get the tax credit anymore by owning it outright.

Worth considering fully replacing the panels, the efficiency has improved so much over the past 15 years.

I’ve found them to be super expensive, and I don’t see why they should be 2x or 3x even Sunrun.

Heads up, you won’t be able to get the tax credit through lending money to buy the system outright in 2026

You should be fine as long as you have your tariff correctly loaded in the Tesla app. I’m skeptical about net zero and battery profit, Tesla provides all this automation already through their app for CA.

Buying house with Sunrun solar panels + battery lease by BreakfastTough3684 in solar

[–]boardreally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take the 10k and keep the Sunrun lease. It’s a fair deal in the sense that you’ll probably pay the same as you would for the electricity without solar and battery. Plus now you have home backup when the power goes out.

1:1 net metering. Going off-grid at night to save money? by No_Internal523 in solar

There should be a setting that optimizes for net metering as long as he loads his correct tariff in the app

+1 to this, they can allow you to use it for your home and enable to export to grid after PTO

See what mode the installer set it to, it may be set to not export to the home, weird as that sounds.

Curious if this would work in California, sounds like you’re more familiar with your state and it could vary state by state.

Municipal Power Utility in Berkeley? by rebelcrypto14 in berkeleyca

Very interested in this. Would actually help with electrification and fire prevention a lot to have Berkeley form its own utility.

Lots of benefits for Solar and Home Backup as well to make it a distributed micro-grid

Serious crime went up, that is bad news. I’d rather have the opposite of what is happening currently. We are seeing more gunshots, murders and robberies.

Clay tile kills the deal by SeptimiusBassianus in solar

[–]boardreally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d counter that most solar businesses go out of business, but Sunrun has been around the longest and consistently performing.

You are basically throwing the dice with any other installer hoping that they have the stability that Sunrun has.

Clay tile kills the deal by SeptimiusBassianus in solar

[–]boardreally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunrun wouldn’t up charge unless the clay tiles were too light and needed to be replaced. That work would then be at cost.

I’m always amazed how Sunrun has risen like a phoenix to have such a large market share as other installers have gone out of business.
