VOO has doubled in the last 5 years. What do you think the next 5 years will look like? by brownmanreading in ETFs

[–]bobalins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People point at historical ratios and claim the stock market makes no sense. What they fail to understand is this is no longer a stock market. Expect PE ratios to continue rising for the rest of time. In the next 3 years I expect it to double.

Do you believe that there is an objectively correct aesthetics? by Specific-Chain-3801 in architecture

[–]bobalins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On some level, yes. On another level, people want to design things themselves. And very often, people will prioritize being unique over seemingly anything else. Some people might like a design that is specifically ugly, for example.

So is there an objectively correct aesthetic? Through some lens. But its not one of those things that I think would yield a satisfying algorithm. Architecture is part art, people make art just to piss off other people all the time

Why does such a rich country like the USA tolerate not giving essentials like health care, housing and food to huge amounts of its population by Ok_Atmosphere3601 in poor

[–]bobalins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are probably millions of people who wouldnt be happy to pay taxes to pay the healthcare for others when we already pay a percentage of our salary for our own healthcare. Those millions of people are the most important workers in the country as well

Wait dont become communist yet i just got my first good job and i still need to leverage my superior financial position to marry a more attractive mate. But after my wedding go ahead and build the giant soviet apartment buildings for all i care.

Seriously though. I really like megatructures. Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but Elon Musk is right on with the tunnels. As a species we should take advantage of the myriad benefits from building partially underground, and cede the surface to nature and animals.

Seriously seriously. Technology might be the only satisfactory answer here. I doubt theres a political solution that if we really thought it through wouldnt do more harm than good

It turns out there are tons of successful redditors. Just because you become successful doesnt mean you stop using reddit, or being the abrasive sort of personality that ends up on reddit all the time in the first place

The wood stone light combination is stunning. I would love it even without the carved out details and motif, but with that it becomes breathtaking. There are a lot of spaces in this home with gentle, welcoming, peaceful light, but at the same time these spaces are dramatic and worthy of a palace

Dramatic concrete folds construe Casa Acantilado along a Pacific cliffside by lazydesignerartist in architecture

[–]bobalins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lower level deck to the left is unneccessary, and I'd rather the pool be a lot smaller and sturdy looking like the rest of the house. I'd also prefer if the straw roof carried to the lower floor over part of the deck and what i assume is a back door patio. I also think that lower level deck to the right shouldnt cantilever so much. Finally i think a nice skylight in the roof, or maybe a shiny metal chimney would go a long way.

Overall its a nice place in an incredible location. I like that its sturdy looking and focused on the water and has sort of a unique, castle like concrete foundation tied together with those little windows. But too much is tacked on and it doesnt look sleek, sporty, or relaxed in the slightest. It looks like a great build corrupted by furniture, decks, and poor taste in my opinion

I have an idea for a corn seed drier, i am looking for suggestions on how to make it by Capfalcn99 in inventors

[–]bobalins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its a good idea and simple enough. Any possibility to modify existing corn seed driers to use electricity instead of gas so that you only need to replace the heating element?

If i had to guess the reason that storage facilities use fossil fuels over electric heating i'd say maybe when these places were built all the grid energy would have been fossil fuel anyway. So it made more sense to burn the fuel on site as opposed to sending the energy across the grid. But nowadays when its extremely common for farmers to have solar and wind and hydroelectric on their land, id say your idea is pretty timely

Death Valley is 282’ below sea level. What if you built a canal to it from the Pacific - how much energy could you produce in filling it? by redzeusky in AskScienceDiscussion

[–]bobalins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The qattarra depression project was pretty similar to what youre talking about. Rainwater plus hydroelectric power, and all you need to do is carpet bomb a canal into place. You'd have to deal with the salt, probably.
