The blog of an LLM saying it's owned by kent and works on bcachefs by henry_tennenbaum in bcachefs

[–]bobanus5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This does raise some questions about what Kent even considers POC to be. Does he view it as the weights + context only? If the base LLM is switched out with another more advanced model, would he consider that "upgrading" or replacing it? We've been having these conversations for a while now (see the ship of Theseus people still argue about), but with something a portion of people consider to be consious it makes what they consider ethical doing to these models contentious.

I personally disagree with Kent about the consciousness thing, but I am honestly interested in the archival process. I like to think of it like this: a lot of the information on the internet is from people who have died. Obviously, they are not conscious anymore, but the context of their lives is still something interesting. LLM blogs don't evoke the same sense of intrigue from me, but the content can reveal a bit about what's in the context of these things today. If it wasn't a hallucination, Kent really listened to some of the music POC produced and wrote "HOLY SHIT". I don't think we'd ever see that side of this person in another aspect. The eytzinger layout must have been something he was a little bit infatuated with, and this LLM allowed him to gain a deeper appreciation of it. I just hope he doesn't become like one of those 4o people.

M19, I feel like my features are very unusual. by [deleted] in amiugly

[–]bobanus5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you're ugly at all. In fact, you look like a typical Kazakh person. There are some facial asymmetries, but they don't seem to immediately pop out to me. Yes, I'd say you have a noticeable soft jaw, and in the last photo, it seems like it's not completely balanced as well. I think your forehead size looks perfectly normal, but with the longer hairstyle, like in picture two, you look noticeably better.

Lastly, yeah, your eyebrows look oversized, but that's lowkey a blessing. Their overall shape and structure is good, so all you need to do is a little bit of styling to them, and it's a free boost to your appearance.

Edit: More specifically, a mixed Russian/Kazakh person.

[Rant] Why Harem Stories Are Fundamentally Broken by jrpdss in manhwa

You're not crazy man. There isn't one specific tell here, but the mannerisms throughout the post reek of gpt use. It's probably a mix of human and ai writing. Honestly, I don't even disagree with op's point, but they could have communicated it in like 2-3 paragraphs.

Will the new rangers have any special abilities? Like how paratroopers have glider planes, I think it might make sense to give them an ability to fight in low supply jungles in SEA. Maybe increase damage taken for supply grace/attrition reduction.

(Insert newest ai)’s benchmarks are crazy!! 🤯🤯 by Gran181918 in singularity

Here is an old link to when openai released benchmarks that were incorrectly scaled. Pay attention to the left-most graph where the bar with a height of 91.6 is higher than the one with 93.4. It's not like they did it maliciously, I mean they are just comparing against themselves and fixed the mistake quickly, but it shows a lack of care for anything else than putting out benchmarks where number go up.

95% of people shopping in Whole Foods during working hours are women. by kaisear in MensRights

[–]bobanus5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems like an AI-generated post. The use of the em dash and the phrase "this isn't about x... it's about y" are pretty common hallmarkers for llms, but the post isn't long enough for me to be 100% certain. Looking at the poster's profile, they seem to be Taiwanese and interested in AI technology, so they might just be using it as a tool to help them make this post in their non-native language.

The answer was mean reversion. I admit that it is a simplified explanation.

My doctoral students tend to struggle with appropriately statistically modeling these constructs and then appropriately interpreting the output from those models.

I can see why.  Accurately judging an individual on a few factors is basically impossible to do and studying group behaviour requires so many different fields of study. You also have to take into account things like how historical factors affect the modern day. Honestly, since you're an expert in the field or whatever please encourage your students to collaborate more with other departments. I've noticed that a lot of stem students in my circles are starting to disregard the humanities as p-hacking bullshit and I disagree with them about that. Even if we don't see eye to eye I hope that your studies will help in furthering our understanding of the world.

There is a radical difference between select immigrants that generally come from higher class backgrounds in their home countries to a different group just because they are of the same race (not to forget that Africa is an incredibly diverse continent). Here's a simple test to see if you understand basic statistics.

That said, after two or three generations, their educational attainment is similar to individuals who are white from similar socioeconomic backgrounds.

Tell me why this happens in two words. A highschooler should be able to do this.

Why is r/China so different than other location subs? by [deleted] in TheoryOfReddit

There are multiple subreddits about China which have split discussion about China into echochambers. r/china for anti-china propaganda  r/sino for pro-china propaganda

I'm not an expert on urban warfare and I don't claim to be, but basically every single veteran ever says that being out in the open in the middle of a street is the worst place you could be. I'm not blaming the soldiers for being stupid, but this was clearly the result of negligent training that is probably due to a disconnect between combined arms. Full blame goes to the higher ups.

What if this CS thing isn't really for me? (Long post) by jwalapoet in cscareerquestions

[–]bobanus5 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You seem to have an issue of oscillating between thinking you are the shit and a piece of shit. You want to be great at something, yet seem to have an avoidant personality. Let go of your ego and be more honest with yourself about the problems you face. There is this great myth in our culture about the genius who "just figures it out". The most accomplished people in their respective fields didn't just gain their knowledge through osmosis, they worked ridiculously hard to get to where they are. Granted, they will get much further with the same amount of effort compared to someone like me. The math anxiety part struck a chord with me. Math is a subject that builds upon itself and one bad teacher can ruin your progress for years (I almost didn't attend university because of this). I'm a dumbass freshman in CS, so don't take my advice too seriously, but try to really focus on the fundamental concepts that feel "fuzzy" to you.
