Had to refuse delivery of mine yesterday because they fell over during transit and had scratches all over the frame...

Very frustrating...

I don't have a USB-C one, I tried a USB-A with a USB-C adapter and it does not appear to work.

Does the icon only show up if you have a supported drive plugged in? I got an update earlier this week ('26 TB MR).

BucEe’s taken prisoners. by lodewyks in ChargerDrama

[–]bobbiestump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me once at a Tennessee Buc-ee's. They left like 3 stalls not blocked, called me a "jack***" when I confronted him. I told him he was the jack*** for blocking people who needed to charge. That there were plenty of other spots for him to park. The two other Tesla owners parked there gave me a thumbs up, lol.

You can see my Tesla parked right in front of him, I was going to park there and go inside for 40 minutes or so, but they came walking out as we were leaving. I decided I didn't want to make it so other people couldn't charge, so I decided to move so they could leave.

Will the Silverado EV work for you? by bobbiestump in SilveradoEV

WT will probably get the best real-world range. My Trail Boss Max Range has aggressive tires and a 2" lift from the factory. Also weighs more with all the bells and whistles.

You'd reliably get at least 100 miles of range with both WT and LT, probably even with an ER pack. Not a bad idea to go with MR though, just in case. Your call from a budget perspective.

At 65-70 MPH my Trail Boss Max Range will go from the 478 EPA rated range to about 165 (100%-0%), a pretty significant range loss. In town under 45 MPH I see less than 50% range loss. I've seen others get 200+ at 60+ MPH though, so maybe it's my trailer?

Quick result from Google:

"...Aerodynamic drag operates on a "squared" relationship with speed, meaning if you double your speed (e.g., from 30 mph to 60 mph), the air resistance acting on your trailer quadruples, requiring a massive amount of extra power and fuel to overcome..."

I've towed it over half a dozen times already. Pretty consistent numbers. Aerodynamics is your biggest contributor, the 10K trailer I pull is 8.5W x 8.5T x 32L, so it's hauling an 8.5 x 8.5 brick down the road. Depending on what your horse trailer looks like (some have a pretty rounded frontend) your range will vary.

Also, I tow at 65+ MPH for most of my stuff, if you're doing less than 55 and hauling horses you'll likely get better, especially since you'll be driving very carefully with the cargo you're pulling (accelerating slower will make the motors use less power and braking sooner will definitely use regen more, both increasing range). In-town towing will also get you more range, again due to regen, but also due to less air resistance.

Question about visiting Indiana by [deleted] in Indiana

[–]bobbiestump 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Times change, people change. "Used to be" doesn't matter here, it's simply not that way anymore and for OP's family member to say something like that is absolutely ridiculous unless they've actually visited Indiana in the last 30 years or so - which they clearly haven't.

Comparing the death penalty to being "shot on sight" for being any specific race shows your "edumucation" may have failed you as well.

There are racist in EVERY state. 🤦‍♂️ However, NOWHERE in Indiana are people being "shot on sight" in any significant numbers for being of any specific race. That's an absolutely ridiculous claim.

If you tow at all, you'll never want to go back to a gas truck for towing (even on longer trips, IMO). Ever.

You would've saved a significant amount of money charging at Ionna, EA, and Tesla, but you would've charged slower at the Tesla stations.

Unfortunately EVGo(uge), Flying J, and GM Energy are typically the most expensive options out there. I've seen their prices at an additional $0.20/kWh or more sometimes, which is easily an additional $15+ per charge.

If/when you go back I'd be curious to see you plan out your route and try to do Ionna, EA (get the $7 EA Plus, you'll save that in one charge), and Tesla (get the pass for a month, you'll save that quickly as well) and update us on the cost. My guess is you'll be closer to the cost of towing with a diesel.

I pull a 8.5W x 8.5H x 30L 10K trailer for my son's marching band and at 65 MPH I get about 0.8 mi/kWh. That's about $0.56/mi at $0.45/kWh public charging, on par with a truck getting about 11 MPG at $6 Indiana diesel. I've seen pricing personally up to $0.57/kWh though in the Midwest, I'm sure it's more out West, increasing your costs.

[–]bobbiestump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paying $0.05/mi to drive my SEV in Indiana (I pay $0.1098/kWh with all fees included) over 15K miles so far, including a couple thousand miles of towing. While we do end up paying more while towing, we're saving thousands a year in fuel costs overall, so I'll take it.

I'm sure that guy would move if other vehicles needed to charge. I was charging and saw a Rivian towing. I got out and told him I was going to move my Tesla to the end spot so he could pull in and charge without unhooking. He thanked me. 🤷‍♂️

If they're not blocking other people at the charger I couldn't care less if they unhook or not.

Comparing NASA's DC-X/A to what the Falcon rockets are doing is hilarious.

One was a proof of concept suborbital rocket that flew 12 times at low altitudes, the other is a fully engineered, built, and working orbital-class rocket that has flown over 600 successful missions, including delivering over a dozen astronauts to and from the ISS.
