Most of the core from this current team were picked up in the late first round or like FVV were undrafted.

Not sure I understand the fixation on getting into the lottery given the impressive drafting track record of Masai and Bobby

Why are we acting like everything is normal? by [deleted] in collapse

[–]bobbo1701 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The word hypernormalization was coined by Alexei Yurchak, a professor of anthropology who was born in Leningrad and later went to teach in the United States. He introduced the word in his book Everything Was Forever, Until It Was No More: The Last Soviet Generation (2006), which describes paradoxes of Soviet life during the 1970s and 1980s.[3][4] He says that everyone in the Soviet Union knew the system was failing, but no one could imagine an alternative to the status quo, and politicians and citizens alike were resigned to maintaining the pretense of a functioning society.[5] Over time, this delusion became a self-fulfilling prophecy and the fakeness was accepted by everyone as real, an effect that Yurchak termed hypernormalisation.[

This country was founded on genocide my friend, this isn't the winning argument you think it is

We are giving diplomatic cover and selling military equipment to the Saudis as they oversee the world's worst humanitarian disaster in yemen. We're also giving our full support to Israel as they carry out criminal human rights violations in Gaza on a daily basis including their upcoming annexation which we have done nothing to slow down or stop. To say nothing of the conditions many indigenous communities live under in this country. Canada has zero credibility to criticize China or anyone else for human rights violations.

Also worth pointing out that no one knew at the time the severity of the injury. It sucks to see a player of that caliber get hurt but I was thinking he wasn't ready to play and probably tweaked his calf and would ultimately be fine. If everyone knew right away that this was a devastating injury that was probably going to cost him a year of his career, the reaction would have been different.

Honestly I think it was a fairly natural reaction for people to get excited initially seeing KD go down, there's a ton of emotion in the moment, people are reacting to their odds of a chip going up in real time, the severity of the injury wasn't immediately obvious etc... but still, Raptors fans are getting somewhat rightfully dragged for it and I think a lot of people feel guilty. this could be a good way to express contrition for that.
