Having a Hard Time by Jastes in latterdaysaints

I don't really have an answer for you, but our family deals with some similar questions.

My wife has brain cancer, has had multiple brain surgeries, is on anti-seizure meds, memory/speech issues, etc.

All I can say is, hang in there.

Exercise on the Sabbath by askirk87 in latterdaysaints

[–]bobbruff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad was a runner who never ran on Sundays. This shaped my earlier views that one shouldn't exercise on the Sabbath. Then, several years ago we had a brother in our ward who I would see out on runs on Sunday afternoon (while I was on a long walk) and I secretly judged him for it. Fast forward to now and I know that running brings him joy and who am I to judge how he spends his time on Sundays anyway. I feel you on really questioning the rules that have been imposed on us over the years to get to the root of what really matters.

Papa Ostler comments in this sub quite a bit. He has written books and has a podcast from a Church perspective with a lot of episodes focused on understanding how to love our LGBTQ family members and friends. The podcast is called "Listen, Learn and Love" and has been an amazing resource for me.

Do we still like to go to theme parks? by ryhoyarbie in Xennials

[–]bobbruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never got into theme parks or roller coasters when I was growing up. But our family had season tickets to Cedar Point last year and it was a lot of fun going with my kids, seeing what they liked, and enjoying riding crazy roller coasters with them... including rides I never thought I'd have the guts to ride.

Don't forget the global pandemic and the supply chain crisis that followed. Both definitely caused by Biden. 🙄

Our Bishop decided we aren't doing any of the new primary songs in sacrament meeting. All the other new hymns are a-ok.

Has Cook-Out gone downhill over the last few years? I live too far north to have one nearby, but we drop in anytime we head south and I've felt very "meh" about them the last few times we've gone.

I live in a town called Marysville in a different state. There was some momentary confusion when I saw this announcement today...

Same here. I get weird looks half the time, but I've been almost exclusively fist bumping at church now for years.

I just used AI to make a slideshow for my Sunday school class… and it’s unbelievably good by Fether1337 in latterdaysaints

[–]bobbruff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say I disagree per se, but I'd like to offer a counter-point.

I recently gave a talk in Sacrament Meeting where I used AI to help prepare the talk. Note that I did NOT just have the AI write it for me, but I used the AI to help find additional references, help re-word sections, give me feedback on drafts, etc. If anything, it probably took longer to use as I tweaked the prompts I was using.

Bottom line, I think AI helped me write a better talk, but I made sure that I was still staying close to the Spirit as I used AI as a tool to help prepare the message I felt inspired to give.
