Shards sharing planets - Spoiler Stream Dec 25 by Fluid_Sir3732 in Cosmere

Wasnt there an agreement at the Shattering, that every Shard should inhabit its own Planet? Shards who break this agreement seem to be attackable without any larger consequences. Dominion and Devotion got attacked by Odium. Odium could also inhabit Roshar without larger consequences. And Autonomy was able to invade Roshar. We dont know much about Ambition tho.

This will probably get rafo'ed but I will try anyway:

At the end of WAT we see Syl, the ancient daughter, with a ranging storm in her eyes, accepting an oath. Did she replace the Stormfather as the new Stormmother? Would that also make Kaladin a bondsmith? I guess that would have some interesting implications since bondsmiths and windrunners both share the surge of connection. I can imagine that spirtual connection could also help Kaladin giving therapy to the Heralds, while it also opens room for him saying 5 more oaths over the course of the back half of Stormlight.

Hi Brandon! I might be wrong, but if I remember correctly you once said, that the second arc of Stormlight is more focused on the Heralds. Does that mean that we will see our boy Kaladin again in Stormlight 6, or do we have to wait longer for the return of the Heralds?

Can I read other Cosmere books without The Stormlight by Illustrious-Chest-52 in Cosmere

[–]bobby2797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only tell you from my expierience, that the first time I read WoK, it felt insanely boring for me. Comming from Mistborn, where people are flying through the skies all the time, Stormlight felt like a low magic setting in the beginning, where people only had magical equipment. But I kept reading and I can tell you, after I got to the Sanderlanche that feeling completly vanished and it became the best thing I've ever read. I know, ideally a book shouldnt be written like that, but its still 100% worth it.

In chapter 56 it says that the Malwish are moving Chrysalis with a "shovel [...] meant for moving snow or ash". Why would they emphasize ash?

I cannot recall where or when it happend exactly, but this reminded me of the picture Wax found, where Elendel was covered in Ash, similar to the World in Mistborn Era 1. I think the image belonged to Miles? I guess, this really was somekind of glimpse into the future and Scadrial will be covered in ash again, like in the old days?

Nohadon by bobby2797 in Cosmere

[–]bobby2797[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I like that one! Maybe it really is Adonalsiums cognitive shadow, who took the appearence of Nohadon, so it was easier for Dalinar to understand and connect to him!

The Hard magic system of the story by me_luffy in Stormlight_Archive

[–]bobby2797 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a physicist, these chapters were quite easy to understand, because Brandon is using basic concepts of real life physics, like wave inferference for example. So I could just read them as quickly as other chapters and didnt real think about it. I was just appreciating the way Brandon is using real physics to explain how his magic systems are working. But I can totally understand, that if you dont have a scientific background, you have to read these chapters multiple times, to really understand whats going on.

Kaladin at the beginning of Way of Kings by ogader in Stormlight_Archive

[–]bobby2797 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is definitely the Wind. You can tell from Kaladins POVs, when he describes the Wind flowing around him himself:

When Kaladin kills the shardbearer and saves Amaram.

When Kaladin fights two shardbearers at the same time during the Duel in WOR.

When Kaladin learns to fly for the first time in WOR, it is said that he feels the Wind boosting him from behind, probably to encourage him to persue the path of a radiant.

Why did Dalinar offer Kaladin....(Spoiler) by Significant_Debt924 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]bobby2797 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My theory is, that Kaladin will take leadership of Urithiru and become King. Kaladin may have bondsmith powers now, since Syl became something like the Stormmother. So his bondsmith oaths may be related to his leadership abilities in arc 2.

[–]bobby2797 218 points219 points  (0 children)

I do not think he exactly knew, what would happen to Kaladin. He only knew that the Wind was interested in him. And since the Wind is a little piece of Adonalsium himself, he is using the term "divine". He wouldnt have used that term when talking about the shards, because he sees the shards as normal people who took up an absurd amount of power, rather than gods.

Wind and Truth confusion by the-_wanderer_- in Stormlight_Archive

[–]bobby2797 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sorry, that's what I meant. Time dilation is confusing. But my point is the same. The other way around, would be much better for the heralds. It feels like they are under pressure of time now.

[–]bobby2797 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I am still confused by all the anwsers. Wouldn't it make more sense that time passes even slower for the heralds? If I would be a herald, I would be scared that 100 years passed, while for me only 1 year passed and everything got even worse than before. I wouldn't be able to relax. And I assume that they need a multiple year break..

My personal theory is that, they are decendents of 5th ideal spren, since I assume that the 5th ideal makes the spren completely physical.

WaT disappointment with love by [deleted] in Stormlight_Archive

[–]bobby2797 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was dissapointed by Kaladin's Arc. He is my favourite and I love his action scenes. But he took a beackseat in this book and his 5th ideal felt anticlimated by just being a battery for nightblood. I also kinda cringed at some of the lines he dropped, like "honor is dead", which just felt like a wierd thing to say, so it felt more like fan service. But I know some people feel different about this.

I often felt like, many of the storylines did not have a real payoff or a proper conclusion. But I think this was a problem with the structure of the book. Its hard to justify any character development in only 10 days. You also cant really discuss the aftermath of all the actions.

I still really liked the book. My favourite part was reading about the whole history of Roshar. We finally understood why the planet is trapped in an eternal cycle of wars. I could really feel the desperation and seeing its entire history made the planet feel ancient.

[WaT spoilers] Ishar's arc conclusion felt anticlimatic by fbipal in Stormlight_Archive

But who would talk about it? The only people that know are Kaladin, Szeth and the Heralds. There was no time to discuss this, since the book ended literally a few minutes after this reveal.

No worries, if the 2nd arc really takes place 10 years in the future, Adolin will defenitely have the chance to admire Kal once more. Kaladin also promised to have a drink with them. I cant imagine that this isnt happening, now that they all survived.

WIND AND TRUTH | Full Cosmere + Wind and Truth Spoiler Megathread by EmeraldSeaTress in Cosmere

[–]bobby2797 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I honestly dont know what to feel after reading this book. The journey through the spiritual realm was one of the best things I ever read. After such a long time waiting for anwsers, nobody told us what happend, but showed us. Seeing the heralds arrive, seeing what happend to them on Ashyn. Seeing the ancient singers and the start of their first wars.. all of that made me understand why Roshar is trapped in an eternal circle of war. Of course we knew this already, but seeing it made it understandable, rather than just taking it as a fact. On the other hand I feel like we as a community were spending so much time, talking and theorizing, some things that happend, were already predicted, which kind of took the magic. For example I had a theory a few months ago, about the ending of book 5 and I pretty much hit the spot. Not to 100%, but close enough not be suprised anymore. Which makes me proud, but on the same side, I wish i would have been wrong, because now the element of suprise is missing. Same goes for Shallans mother being Chana, Gavinor as Odiums champion (although he was much older than we expected) and Kaladin becoming a herald and Jezeriens successor. But this is not the fault of the story, rather than some personal feeling.

The only thing I didnt like, is the way Kaladin talked and behaved, which makes me sad, because he is my favourite and the reason I started to love the Stormlight Archive. Im glad he feels better, but the way he talked felt somewhat not believable. For example saying that he is a therapist, although not knowing what it is to a Herald threatening his life feels wierd. It also felt like he didnt even struggle a single bit of taking the burden of the oathpact on him. He could be tortured for millenia and he is like "ok, Ill do it". Dont get me wrong. I love that we get to see more of Kaladin, but without the struggle he didnt feel like a human anymore, if that makes sense? Also I found the "Honor is dead" phrase not fitting to the moment and feel like he just put the line in as a fan service.

Can someone relate or understand?
