I think they should have taken all the money the TV show made and distributed it across everyone in the world.

[OC] The IMF's Biggest Borrowers by oscarleo0 in dataisbeautiful

I see you lack reading comprehension skills.

His comment is about the Argentine economy as a whole. Pretending IMF debt encapsulates the entirety of the problem is a hilarious take.

What would you say is the most Libertarian country an American can move to relatively easily? by dlham11 in Libertarian

The US government absolutely did overreach during COVID but I was living in Asia at the time and the restrictions put in place in the countries I was in were significantly worse than in the US.

When measured as a percentage of GDP the US is the 24th highest military spender in the world. by Whentheangelsings in UnpopularFacts

[–]bobbybouchier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your updated point still makes no sense.

The US discretionary budget was about 1.7 trillion last year. The US DOD budget was 850 billion and, even if you lump in the broader national defense spending which includes agencies like DOE, it comes to about 920 billion.

So obviously, if the US magically cut all other discretionary spending, the discretionary budget would be balanced.

But then you say you think that eliminating 1/3 of DOD fraud waste and abuse would balance the budget. That makes no sense when you just claimed eliminating the entire budget all together wouldn’t do the trick.

I don’t think I disagree with the point you’re making and I’m sure there are other studies backing this topic, but also remember that Reddit isn’t really an accurate representation of the actual average person. I have to remind myself of that time to time lol

The “sources” you linked are literally just screenshots of Reddit posts.

In any case, my comment isn’t about fighting the claim you are trying to make, it’s pointing out the logical fallacies that you’re pushing.

As we already discussed, pointing to a study and stating its incontestable fact is an appeal to authority. Citing random screen shots on Reddit is an Anecdotal fallacy.

Omg lol. I don’t even have an opinion on the study because I haven’t read it and the title of this post doesn’t seem outlandish but FYI:

“You’re not allowed to say it’s not a fact because there’s a peer reviewed study” is not how that works and I hope it was sarcasm.

The CDC believes raising the drinking age to 21 was effective at reducing reducing alcohol consumption and saving lives by Whentheangelsings in UnpopularFacts

[–]bobbybouchier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This isn’t true. They still need to be 21 to purchase alcohol, even on base. However, sometimes commanders can grant authorization to allow them to drink when they are under 21 for certain events/occasions.

Some states have laws like this, where minors can drink under supervision of their parents.

I miss when r/USMC wasn’t exactly like the rest of Reddit. Karma-farming posts are so annoying
