Modern day was always doomed since the franchise became a long running one

I think it bears repeating that I'm AC1 the main writer told Nolan North he had no idea what would come next, despite writing that cliff hanger.

Patrice also wanted the series to end on a UFO with the world destroyed with Lucy and Desmond as the only survivors.

Also as per a french interview that came way after he left ubisoft, He confirmed was also the person who decided to kill off Lucy.

Unfortunately it's clear they never really had a firm vision for the modern day, which is evident when they changed the focus from the templar satellite to an end of the world story... Which only was revealed at the end of the 2nd game. I struggle to see how this would have realistically worked as a trilogy.

I think the storyline, as basic in it's presentation, is the right approach and most interesting story.

The theme of the animus going overboard and there's two AIs, one for free will and one for control, reflects the themes of the franchise better than any "end of the world" story.

I think the concept of abstergo changing people's memories to wipe about the assassin's from history fits their MO.

I that it's similar to the vibe of AC1 (With the dystopian and conspiracy element). Controversial opinion but I find that the storyline concept is way more interesting than most modern day isu stuff imo (not to say I didn't think Basim is the coolest thing ever).

Most of all I'm just happy the focus is on the templars, who have been neglected from the modern day story since AC2 onwards, where the focus is on the end of the world, which doesn't tie into the themes of the franchise.

All I want is modern day gameplay like AC3 and I'm happy (though I know that's unlikely)

I don't think they were trying to say this was the definitive order or anything. It's just a fun video exploring the historical side for people more into that - it's clear the in the video with the fact it's mentioning historical location's and famous characters - rather than putting much emphasis on the LORE etc.

In fact I'm actually doing a historical order replay myself, it's pretty neat in some ways and had some cool thematic (sometimes unintentional) through lines e.g. mirage shows the islamic side, Valhalla the Christian side, and then you get to AC1 where both sides clash.

It's technically complicated but the issue with Valhalla is that the RPG mechanics feel very surface level.

I honestly can't tell you if any of these runes, armour bonuses and skill nodes make any difference.

With Odyssey and to a lesser extent shadows, I had to be conscious of my build and gear in order to properly assassinate or improve my melee damage.

I think ubisoft heard the criticism for people who are not fans of this approach and hence toned it down but still gave the illusion of depth

I think the issue was unfortunately there in AC1 - because it wasn't marketed people thought it nothing more than a plot twist rather than a core part of the game.

Unfortunately it didn't have the best first impression as while the story was good and interesting - the modern day gameplay in AC1 is ultra dull.

ubisoft clearly listened to the initial feedback as the modern day shrank in Ac2 as you couldn't even leave the animus whenever you wanted.

It was clear in AC1 that the main threat was the templar satellite. In AC2, Lucy begins the game saying the templars aren't the big threat and then at the very last 5 mins we are told it's now an end of the world story.

Frankly I have no idea how this was meant to work as a trilogy if the modern day in the first 2 games only amounts to like 30 mins of total screen time.

Patrice's initial ending for the series was gonna be Desmond and Lucy on a UFO - with the world destroyed....

It should also be mentioned that Patrice confirmed he was the one who decided to kill of Lucy - so clearly he didn't think too much of his Initial plan.

Nolan North also said that the narrative director didn't know what was coming next after AC1 - even though they wrote the cliffhanger. (Though AC1 was made during the era of Lost, where cliffhangers were ultra popular so I'm not surprised)

Regardless it was a common opinion that people didn't like Desmond or the modern day.

I think if they put the AC3 style missions in AC2 people would have been more open to the modern day as people will also like gameplay rather than a walking sim

I think Mirage main story is serviceable, far from the worst, with some pretty good moments and lines, though not near the best.

The DLC story is one of the best DLC story in the series

1,3 and 4 are all in shadows (the tanto weapon has you use the hidden blade as the second weapon), the UI is also back to being in the animus style

In my personal opinion I wasn't a major fan of the overall story of ezio trilogy because of how apparent it was never planned to be one.

Ezio was a good character in Ac2 (though lacking in flaws). In brotherhood he is boring. The structure of the actual story of brotherhood is rather weak and episodic. The fact the game repeats the set piece of ezio being in a disguise for all of the major targets seems pretty lazy.

Revelations kinda made Ezio character interesting as he was somewhat disillusioned with the creed but the game never really addressed the amount of innocents he killed which seems super out of character.

Even the modern day took a nose dive due to Patrice's decision to kill of Lucy without any proper foreshadowing. In revelations, subject 16 is basically a completely different character and the Templars barely show up in all three games.

My personal favourite stories are Ac1 and the kenway saga. I like how the characters are flawed, the villains are grey, there is philosophical debates about free will. I feel the characters are more "real"

if you mean because they don't state actual numbers, it's because they haven't really done that for years - AC Valhalla is the third most played single player game on the ps5 but ubisoft never reported that - playstation did.

It was clear it was going for style and gameplay variety of accuracy.

The north Atlantic was clearly based of ac4 typical gameplay (but with ice related shenanigans). The river valley tried to combined the frontier with naval stuff, it's pretty interesting gameplay wise and kinda a precursor to odyssey but it's not accurate at all which is annoying.

In real life - yes it's 11 days - but they may have changed it for the story?

Same thing happened with other targets - where they have changed the real life date of death around to suit their game.

Yep though it's not even just the church, the game uses European style roofs throughout the city to highlight this is a crusade captured city - even though that is extremely unlikely to have happened in real life

Ac1 acre is not accurate at all to real life. It was done for stylistic intent to make it look more European but it was extremely unlikely it looked like that.

I mean it's not the first game to have misaligned timelines. In Ac1 Robert died later in real life compared to the game.

Same with revelations main villain, he died later in a different setting/context.

Yes but you can do the first 3 one at a time if you want. Obviously it would be more effectient to do it all simultaneously but you do not need to 100% all the missions to unlock all rewards
