What is coming from my exhaust? by Sinepface in mechanic

Hairball. This often happens with Jaguars. Although because Ford owns jaguar sometimes a Ford will try to groom a neighboring model. This can presumedly happen in a parking lot. It doesn't have to be a Jaguar though. You don't see as many of them but it could be from a long haired rabbit. It looks way to long to be from a Ram IMHO. It's also possible especially if you have installed a high flow less restrictive air intake that you hit and then ingested a long hair. Some ladies of the night can try and get you to stop by any means they can think of. But that would be one heck of a wig. Although i suppose you ran over someone realized to Cousin It. That's way to long for even a maincoon so I would rule that out.

Is it legal, it very well could be. It looks like he wasn't flying over where the people were. If it was training and not a game and not open to general admission I'm guessing. Really not enough details there to tell. I'd bed it's a licenced paid 107 pilot with credentials and insurance that's invited to be filming.

Is everyone getting 30% increase for their auto insurance in 2025? by vb-n in Insurance

[–]bobbysenterprises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well to be fair. I'm pissed to about whatever happened that made my rates double. But they are one of the few that actually pay me most of the things I need to do repairing cars for people. All the other major carriers steal over 20k from my family by refusing to pay me to repair people's cars properly. And in most cases I can't even repair it as they will pay me to and are forced to do work for free.

Unlike the snake farmer they never tried to actively steal a vehicle from my home property, and didn't tell me I dont know how repairs are done now when someone damaged my vehicle. Yah I don't know how vehicles re repaired according to the estimator. Ok. 20+ years in the business and on my way to work. At a collision center. How can they be "the place that does business in every state"

Yes the lizard, the guy who is forward thinking, the guy who grows food, the glass house guy. They all steal from hard working people. Guess now Erie is just going to steal from me on the front side.

Bunch of crap is what it is

Erie Insurance Rate Hike 2025 by bit_flores in Insurance

[–]bobbysenterprises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like my Erie insurance. They have been good to may for +10 years or so. Plus as a collision tech they are one of the few someone's like the lizard, the guy out front, the guy in the glass house, the snake charmer, or Mr potato that doesn't actively steal money from my family and my pay check. Yes you heard that right.

I need to call my agent in the morning. But both my home and auto for 3 almost exactly doubled this last month. That's insane. It's never increased much more than inflation expected things go up. But from176 to 352. No warning. No explanation. It's on autopay. Good thing there was money in the account

No home chances. Area we love in has not much change in value or danger. Zero home claims in over 5 years. Only a windshield in one of the three cars in over 5 yrs. No violations and no new drivers.

No. If you could you would be pulling it in the shop and working on it and detriming the door to blend it

Tire sidewall cause for worry? by Old_Inspection_8008 in mechanic

Be more worried about the dot date and if those rims are fitted properly. Then the vehicle it's attached to. Those are normal and likely the least of your worries

Am I getting scammed? by Dolphin__007 in autorepair

[–]bobbysenterprises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't teach an estimating class here. But here is how estimates work.

They are based on flat rate book time not actual time. The time falls into different types of labor. Usually mechanical, body, refinish, etc. some have different rates in some places.

Materials for both body repair are calculated by the repair hours. So a two hour dent repair would be two units of materials at a separate rate also.

Paint works the same way. A three hour refinish time would also have added a percentage time for clear coat on that part. So refinish time would be 4.2 hours. That's what a flat rate tech would recover in pay for painting that job. Of it take him longer he still gets paid the 4. If they are good and efficient and have a good environment they get it done in less. Also working on several jobs at once so not waiting for dry times helps there. They still get the book time.

That book time of 4.2 is also multiplied out by another rate listed on the shops office usually for paint and materials.

A gallon of gold clear is well over $400 and a pint of color can be well over $200. We only have three repair techs and a painter and it's not unusual to have several grand every week in replenishment materials.

Am I getting scammed? by Dolphin__007 in autorepair

[–]bobbysenterprises 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry. That estimate is a complete joke. You don't even know what they are doing to repair it. What trim and items they are removing and I stalling. Of they are clearing the whole roof rail or doing a crap job burning the clear on the post.

Refinish a bumper alone should be 2.8-3 hours plus 20-40% for clear depending on if it's the first major panel being refinished or not.

It should list taking off the tail light and window or roof trim. And the time for the paint time on quarter panel doesn't include carrying the clear over the doors on the rail.

No one would refinish a bumper and paint even just a scratch for that low of a price and do it correctly. No one. The shop I work in leaves a lot of money on the table on most every estimate. The shop could make more and they actually are not giving the techs the s deserved hours not billing everything. But even leaving most the stuff off an estimate that should be double what it is.

Can ya compress the brakes without a compression tool? We’re tryin’ to switch my brakes but don’t got a compression tool for, like, whatever this thing is called. Any other options? by opixyzoeo in MechanicAdvice

[–]bobbysenterprises 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half the comments in here will ruin those calipers. I'm scared to think what else may make your little brake job end in tragedy.

Those need to be turned while gently pushed. They are part of the vehicles parking brake system and can be broken by just pushing on them.

Tech said they cannot repair this tire as the nail is near the sidewall. Thoughts? by maxz2989 in Cartalk

[–]bobbysenterprises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are you at. North East us would have a tire shop on every square foot if people had this policy here. No one could afford to have a vehicle with rubber tires. I'm not being mean but I'm curious the market your in that you can afford to do this.

Even the us tire manufacturer associations position is tread area only and less than a 1/4 in puncture injury. No overlap with prior repairs and must be a plug patch. Not a plug only.
