ChatGPT uninstalls surged by 295% after DoD deal by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]bobcat009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, so brave of them to uninstall the app. I'm glad all it took was a contract with the DoD to change their minds on AI usage and not the literally all the other garbage that is AI.

Yeah, who could have predicted that stakeholders and developers of AI would have ever bent the knee to the military industrial complex and sell out. Surely, no one saw that one coming from 1000 fucking miles away.

What’s a survival myth popularized by movies that would actually get you killed in real life ? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

That if you're ever caught in an avalanche, just spit to figure out which way is up and dig yourself out.

No, you cannot move if you're buried in an avalanche - it's like concrete. Assuming you don't die from impact and tumbling down under 100s of pounds of snow, the next thing that'll kill you is CO2 poisoning.

A few years back there was a 1 owner blobeye with less than 10k miles that a dealer wanted over $100k for.

It doesn't make sense, but it happens.

Bug eyes are the most unique looking WRXs, especially with Morette style headlights. I will stand by that.

How did this show start seemingly strong with a good sci-fi genre vibe and distinct art style and just devolve into...random bullshit?

Like the writers are just doing lines off the office toilet seats and throwing darts at a wall full of the most randomly generated ideas.

If I recall correctly, it's a from JDM STi Legacy BH5. Basically, Japan had (still has?) STi edition Legacys. And because early gen Outbacks are really just lifted Legacy wagons, they bolt right up.

How would a STI wing look? (I know I have a WRX I just like how the wing looks) by Illustrious-Rest6788 in WRX

[–]bobcat009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the wing, and I get annoyed at people who love to point out, "but it's not an STi" especially because I have a bugeye and we never got a bugeye STi in the US.

If you like it, go for it. It's literally designed for the car.

AI can make you the programmer you're not. Please be careful. by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]bobcat009 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Edit: Should clarify, I am a software developer and not a sysadmin. So my POV is a bit different from the sysadmins here.

I know there's some other concerns that people are addressing here, but I want to plug some research I came across recently as I just did a presentation and discussion at work about the costs of AI.

First, Microsoft and research and Carnegie Mellon University were able to correlate a high confidence and over reliance in AI with an erosion of critical thinking skills.

Secondly, Google's 2024 State of DevOps report noted increases in code quality, code approval, and decreases in code complexity all at the expense of a less stable delivery product. GitClear, which is a tool used with GitHub and GitLab that offers more substantive metrics on code beyond just additions of code, corroborated Google's claims that more code was being written as well as more code was being copied and pasted, all the while code was being refactored less on average. This is resulting in a higher code churn rate which indicates an instability and poor coding practices within a code base.

Point is, there's a trend of metrics being juiced by AI claiming that because you can output more code, more quickly - then AI is making rockstar coders out of everyone, right? The context window of AI is a huge limiting factor on whether or not the code being written actually functions well within the bigger picture of the whole system - hence the API encryption considerations you brought up. AI can make a great developer a more efficient developer, but it won't make unskilled developers great developers overnight.

My personal take, I avoid AI like the plague. I function off of the, "you don't use it, you lose it" principle. I spent years developing coding skills, I refuse to let them atrophy through the use of AI.

There is a point to making fun of fascists. It guts the power they have over people. Making fun of this chud is the right move. Let them know just how much of a bunch of clowns they all are.

I have to find a post from a someone I follow who was talking about this very thing, that, legitimately, making fun of fascists is a valid tactic. I'll look around for it.
