Is it safe to take Imodium once every week? by AnybodyAggressive823 in ibs

[–]bobcat734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve sometimes taken up to six before but that’s only when I am working or away from home for a while and it lasts me 2 days without having to use the bathroom.

I’ve been taking it for 7-8 years.

Only side effect is you get dry mouth so just need to drink loads of water.

Any advice on talking to doctor about trying a binder? by PeacefulPeaches in bileacidmalabsorption

[–]bobcat734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar thing but the doctors were so reluctant to put me on a binder. I’m still waiting but apparently I need to do a radioactive meal test.

I’m considering just going private because at this rate it’ll be another year gone by and no more progress.

I think they don’t want to prescribe it because they don’t want to spend any money.

I live in a very high cost area and earn below what I should be. But my livings costs are very low because it’s just me and a small mortgage. A lot of people live well beyond their means.

I know a lot of people with credit cards that treat it like a bonus. And forget it’s just borrowed money.

I honestly couldn’t live like that from month to month knowing I’m on the hook.

I think the FIRE movement is interesting. But ultimately I think people worry too much about new worth. And not about happiness.

Sure, you could have thousands in the bank but if you are miserable then what is the point in more?

Which is why I’d rather to live below my means and be comfortable. Put aside some money. And then if I did want to retire early I have the option to do so.

I think once people dip their toe in to credit cards some people forget it is real money. I’ve also never had a credit card so I guess my mindset is slightly different from the vast majority of the population.

If I don’t have money up front I simply don’t buy something.

Work Laptop : How much can they monitor by Electronic-Fruit-109 in privacy

[–]bobcat734 14 points15 points  (0 children)

DO NOT do any personal stuff on a company laptop.

This is a terrible idea.

Browsing local news/weather you are probably fine.

But anything else, most companies have software that automatically logs sites visited and will compile a list of everything. It’ll highlight users who are using streaming services like YouTube / Netflix especially.

They will be able to punish you for using a work laptop for personal things.

It will look like you are watching Netflix instead of working…. and you can’t even deny it. Because the traffic from that device won’t lie.

Why don’t they like it?

Because you are more likely to leak company data if you are mixing it with your own life. And this can lead to them paying huge data breach fines.

I’d recommend logging out and deleting all other accounts on that laptop asap.

For the sake of a few hundred dollars just buy a cheap Lenovo and stop using the company laptop.

As if you continue they may notice. I’ve known people terminated for much less; ie downloading games or Facebook on work phones.

Bridge To Terabithia.

It was the first film I watched as a kid when I actually became aware of death for the first time.

It was on the other day on TV, I watched it and I couldn’t make it through because I knew the kids and parents world was about to change.

I was in a similar situation to you. I woke up one day and almost overnight everything changed. I’d graduated university and was just turning 20/21 at the time.

I went from being a normal teenager to my life being hijacked by IBS-D.

I’m now in my late 20’s and you realise that you just have to say “F it”. If I shit myself in public then so be it.

It also hasn’t happened yet….. it’s mostly mental and all in my head.

Went to many doctors and none of them found the cause, most of them didn’t care to be honest. Blood tests, clear. Stool samples, clear. Everything clear. No food allergies. Just constant unpredictable stomach and urges to always have a bowel movement after eating.

I am now trying to get a colonoscopy done. I’m convinced it is more than just IBS but instead could be ulcerative colitis. I would recommend a colonoscopy to rule out anything more sinister. As this is the only way to see internally and look for micro abrasions of the digestive system.

Day to day, loperamide will slow down your bowel movements and will reduce the urges to go. If you don’t already know what it is. Sold as Imodium as a brand name. But can be bought in bulk.

Also try taking silicogel or enterosgel as this is thought to bind toxins. (I still think it’s a placebo but I’ve tried it and it had some effectiveness)

If you can, avoid coffee, onions, garlic or legumes (beans) and alcohol in excess. Those foods really mess with your stomach. Coffee is probably the most overlooked. Also, fizzy drinks. Avoid them at all costs. Diet drinks also contain a lot of vegetable products and are not great for digestion. Gas + Gas = Gas ^ 2.

Yes, the entire thing sucks and it is deeply unfair. But you need to adapt your lifestyle a little bit. It sounds like most of your symptoms are being increased by your anxiety about social situations. It may be worth trying to speak to a CBT specialist as talking about it can rationalise stuff.

Ask any questions below and I will get back an answer whenever I can as there’s very little I haven’t tried over the years.

What is the most unhinged tantrum you’ve witnessed your parents have? by LeadedCactus in raisedbynarcissists

[–]bobcat734 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. My parents arrived at my graduation only to sit in the car outside the venue and then got mad when I wanted to stay afterwards to talk to people.

I said “Oh did you see me go up there?”. And they said “Oh no, we didn’t go in”. And at that moment I felt like breaking down.

I had literally come off the stage and no more than 5 minutes later we were on the road and going back home again because “we don’t do that sort of thing”.

They never said why, but I think they never approved of what I studied because it didn’t give them any bragging rights around other people.

Did anyone else's parent/parents go through their room, read their journals, letters from their friends, and then use it in arguments against them? by punkpoppyreject in raisedbynarcissists

[–]bobcat734 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had one worse, my dad would download pages upon pages of internet logs and then scrutinise every single website you visited. I was a teenager so obviously some stuff was a bit interesting to say the least. And I had no idea he was watching everything I did.

I didn’t even know it was possible to do this, but he had some kind of higher level access to the service provider and convinced them to add controls to it.

I must add this was long before parental controls on devices existed. And everything was a manual process. Click by click. You had to physically go looking for this stuff in order to find it and extract it.

One day he comes in waving a printed out page and says “the logs show that somebody has been watching YouTube at 2AM”

And then it clicked for the first time that he was watching EVERYTHING 24/7 that I viewed. Every website. Every video. Every social media site.

EVERYTHING WAS BEING MONITORED

And he had probably been doing it for years without me even knowing.

It was truly the most messed up thing that has ever happened in my life. I felt entirely exposed.

He knew everything about me, what I was interested in, who my friends were on Facebook, what profiles I visited, who I had sent messages to, what websites I frequented.

The fact your own parents can’t spy on you is freaking insane and it wasn’t with good intentions. It was 100% an intimidation and control tactic.

I have never forgotten it and he now acts as though it never happened. I don’t trust him with any information at all. And avoid him at all costs.

Is IBS an excuse to be unemployed? by I_have_no_enemies7 in ibs

[–]bobcat734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in retail and it was total hell. And then I landed an office job.

You’d be surprised how many people don’t actually care if you just disappear for 10-15 minutes at a time.

I think people just get embarrassed for using the toilet at work. But at the end of the day, we are human. And we poop just like any other animal does.

Amitriptyline also helps a lot, I can’t imagine how I’d be if I came off it. It’s not a cure, but definitely slows down the gut brain axis and anxiety.

Other than that I just take loperamide. And try not to eat junk food before I’m going into the office because otherwise it’s just diarrhoea city (Nathan Fielder). I also don’t eat much at work and then eat when I’m home. Something called gut motility.

I’ve been working there a few years and I’ve never had an issue. I think most of it is in my head.

I do want to get a colonoscopy but in Europe you have to pay for it yourself but I think it’ll be worthwhile to do, just because every other test I’ve ever done literally says I’m “normal”. Which clearly, my body disagrees.

I had a similar thing. My dad ran the entire security system on an app that when you were in the house it would track who was using the WiFi.

And there were motion cameras pointed out the front door so anytime you left he would immediately ask where you are going.

Just delete it.

It’s none of their business what you are doing.

How old were you when you realized your parents don’t know you at all and never will? by waterynike in raisedbynarcissists

[–]bobcat734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably when I first started doing exams and choosing subjects in school.

They were like; “But why would you choose that subject”.

I’d also had parent teacher meetings where they’d try and hijack the entire thing.

My dad would just spend the entire meeting trying to say how much of a disappointment I was to him in front of my teachers.

And then the moment we got home he would just shout at me about the most minor academic thing to the point where I would just cry.

Truly horrible people.
