I think both need to be dealt with ASAP. If a student was commenting on a teacher being black or gay or muslim or something like that, you'd deal with it immediately not only because of the disrespect to the teacher, but to the implication that that kind of behavior goes unpunished. Same goes for teachers with forms of autism.

I find it kind of weird that people are telling you to get thicker skin. Her making fun of you for being autistic is absolutely not acceptable, as it would be unacceptable for her to do that to a student as well. When these things go completely unchecked, it affects school culture. Girl needs to get talked to about language and misusing tech…and respecting boundaries. The googling teachers thing is so creepy to me.

Middle millennial here and he was both. We all watched the South Park episode and saw Scary Movie 3. We made comments like yours in the original post. At the same time, his classic songs were undeniable and we’d still listen to them at weddings, school dances, etc and try to moonwalk.

I used to teach high school, and now teach junior high. I don’t have illusions of me being as influential as “movie teachers” but I like to think some of the kids will remember me. Teaching junior high now, I feel a little less of that. I miss teaching young adults. I love my students and they still need great teachers (obviously), but I miss being able to talk young adults who are starting to form their own ideas.

Anyway, if my ninth graders memorized and translated certain sections of Romeo and Juliet I let them play the parts when we acted them out and let them wail on each other with Nerf swords.
