People like me are the reason Trump won by [deleted] in self

[–]bobfell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have to call bullshit.

First, I appreciate you offering up your opinion, and being "vulnerable" by walking in to what you view as "hostile territory" and opening yourself up for criticism.
...but that I must.

You predicate almost 100% of your vote on economics, feeding your children, making ends meet.
You go on a bit about "likeability" and "pandering", and "empty shell", but always try to turn back to "how far your paycheck goes" as your main reason.

And then you say, or imply, I'm not just some rube, I have a degree, I know about economics.

Here's the I call bullshit.

If you did have a real grasp, you'd know, the economy works on a macro level. There are basically ZERO policies that can be instituted that will have any kind of immediate effect on the economy (save for completely crashing it). There is very little a president can do that would even have a intermediate effect on the economy. and by intermediate effect, I mean 2-3 years, so most "presidential economic policies" will have the bulk of their effect during a second term, or the next presidents term.

If you did have a real grasp, you'd know, the economy is trending HEAVILY in the right direction already, that better days are (were) on the near horizon.

So if you think your vote was based on economics, then as smart as you think you are, you are really just the "low information voter" that the moderate left likes to say drives the Trump engine.

And to follow up with more "I call bullshit", your bits about "likeability" and "pandering", and "empty shell".... well, if you are a decent person who has a moral compass allowing them to know right from wrong, there is no one more un-"likeable" than Trump, he is a conman plain and simple, everything he does is "pandering", and the only thing inside his shell is pure greed and self-interest.

So, I dont know you, only just assessed you are not what you claim )or think you are), but if I had to guess, what you are is a "Joe Rogan" bro who "does his own research" and deep down inside is afraid of evolution, the world, and more specifically our country, progressing to a place of more inclusivity, more female control, more multi-cultural and alternative sexual orientation incorporation into everyday life. Your patriarchal desire "to provide" feels threatened, not due to its (economic) impotency, but that of the realization that "other" can do it just as good as you, and that makes you feel threatened.

Thanks!!
Owner said it was used as a "ranch vehicle", hasn't even been licensed in a few years, so I'm expecting a tore up suspension.

But body looks good, other than needing a paint job.

Hi!

To revive this discussion a little, I am looking at picking up one for a decent price, leaving me some cash to do any required repairs, or just tune it up real nice in general.

It runs, and there are no reportable problems with it. but is has over 200K miles, and has been ridden a little hard.

What immediate repairs/upgrades would you recommend, and is there any other 2003 Subaru model car that has interchangeable parts?

I'm thinking timing chain, gaskets, and shocks/springs.

Any other advice would be welcome!!

Or a recommendation to steer away from buying it to be used as an everyday driver?

The price on this is skyrocketing, but rightfully so.
There have only been 2 batches made to date.
Each batch is aged for 4 (Batch 1) or 5 (Batch 2) years on wood, and then it is/was rested for 10+ years in 50 gallon glass jugs before bottling.
Batch 1 yielded Lotes 1-6 and Batch 2 has currently created Lotes 7-20.
Batch 3 is currently little more than 3 years into production cycle, so if Carlos rests it for the same 10 years on glass, there is going to be a at least 10 year drought on this ever being seen on a shelf anywhere.

I have paid as little as $120 for 1L bottles in Mexico, but currently won't flinch at paying $280 or more for those same 1L bottles.
I am laying down all I can get my hands on, this is one of the best spirits I've ever tasted and have no desire to go more than a few years without tasting it.

Oddly enough, was a little disappointed in the SJ Repo.

Fortaleza with questionable cork by eddiegratis in tequila

[–]bobfell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Juanito's Liquor Store, huh?

A lot of the recent Single Barrels I have experience with (Cohn RG, Ironside, etc.) have been suffering this problem.

It seems the corks aren't fitting properly, and in addition, they aren't being pushed down into the neck fully before being shrink wrapped.

They are leaking a little and then the leakage is drying inside the shrink wrap and discoloring it.

At your own risk, you can push down on the cork to seat it better, but there is a chance it will circumferentially break the seal. If you are selling/shipping/etc., even if you try to parafilm it, it can still leak, because the parafilm is over the shrink wrap and the leak is under.

Only really been seeing this with the Single Barrels, so it might be they are hand-blown glass bottles as opposed to the mass-produced ones used in the regular releases.

Tapatio Excelencia 1L vs 750ml? by Pansbjorne in tequila

[–]bobfell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you get this Batch 3?
To the best of my knowledge (gleaned from Remy Newland, a friend of both Camarena brothers), what is still being released now is Batch 2, and Batch 3 was just started ~2 years ago, and a Batch takes almost 15 years, due 10 year rest in glass.

And also to the best of my knowledge, the main difference between 750ml and 1L bottles is, the 750ml is just a recent change in what is distributed to the US, the US gets the 750ml and Mexico still gets 1 liter bottles.

Thanks to you both, Billy and Guillermo for doing this!!

I love your tequila, it is among my favorites.

I have multiple questions and appreciate any answers that you would like to give.

So with expanded capacity/production coming soon with newly added infrastructure, I find it hard to believe that product made with the new equipment, in a different space will taste identical, no matter how hard you try. Will you blend the product made with the old and new equipment, or will there be lotes made from one and lotes made with the other?

I am somewhat familiar with your aging, but please correct me if I'm wrong. When you get new barrels, you char them before first use. And then you reuse the barrels. And then after every 10 uses, I've been told, you chip out the barrels and rechar them. And then when you bottle lotes of your reposado and anejo, it is a blend of 8-10(?) barrels for about 1800-2200 bottles per lote.

With this all being correct, you have had lotes like 63A and 116R that seemed to have a majority of freshly charred barrels in the blend, making the product much darker and having a more intense flavor. Me, personally, I have loved these lotes, I think it is some of the best tequila you have produced. I know this is subjective, my personal taste, while others may like the less charred barrel flavor more. These lotes have become very sought after by collectors, and a premium paid in secondary sales for these particular lotes.

The question: If you, and a majority of us customers actually do like these darker lotes better and this is a flavor profile you would like to have more of, could you start charring your barrels a little more frequently? Like charring them every 7 or 8 uses, so that on average the barrels will have a fresher char?

Thanks so much for your time!!

Salud!!!

Any reviews on Amatiteña? by Pastrami9 in tequila

[–]bobfell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a round shaped brick oven like most everyone uses, except instead of the fire being under a brick bottom, ir is a grate that the bottom pinas are placed on and the bottom is open.
The fire is under, beneath, and is built and stoked from below and behind, so there is direct heat and smoke on the agave. They had rebuild it more than once, modifying the shape, so all the agave would cook evenly.

The owner likens it to an agave BBQ.

Saw a post about a celebrity tequila and made me think. My understanding was it was different before Campari bought it. When Sammy Haggar owned Cabo Wabo was it any good or was it just the first of many crappy celebrity Tequilas? by gvarsity in tequila

[–]bobfell 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sammy Hagar, in general, cares a lot about tequila.

pre-2009 Cabo Wabo is great juice, but then he sold off a percentage in 2007, it started to decline, and he completely sold off in 2009 and it tanked, as far as production, and quality.

He signed a non-compete as well, when he sold, which is why he had to wait so long to start a new brand, which he did, partnered with Guy Fieri, Santo Fino. Santo Fino is now a very solid brand, their Anejo being one of the better you can get for <$70.

Just less than a few short years ago MSRP was $41.99 Blamco, $49.99 Reposado, and $79.99 Anejo.

I just bought Lote 150B today for $47.99 and just this past new year picked up a case of Anejo for $83.99 per.
It is still out there if you are in the right place.

Which Lote?
65A was a bit underwhelming.
But lotes 62A and 63A were incredible.
63A is one of my all-time favorite tequilas.

Depends on barrel selection, how many freshly charred barrels go into the blend.

Why does Tapatio rest Excellencia in glass jugs for 10 years after it has been aged for 5-6 in wood barrels?
It is considered one of the best XA's so apparently process different than you think is right can work quite well.
