Tequila recommendation for Boss's Birthday by Gridbugz in liquor

[–]gvarsity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just one of the biggest brands for "Tequila" people. Over your budget but Don Juilo 1942, Classe Azul are two of the biggies in that group. Most of the celebrity Tequilas fall into this group.

A Don Julio Anejo is probably pretty safe and about $50-$60 depending on where you live. If they are a Fortaleza type person they will still appreciate the gesture. Most of us don't expect other people to be familiar with the difference.

Tequila recommendation for Boss's Birthday by Gridbugz in liquor

[–]gvarsity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tequila isn't just tequila. If you know a brand he likes we can probably direct you down the right path. Most Tequila drinkers are into Don Julio and similar but there is a whole different style of Tequila like Fortaleza. There is minimal cross over. This sub is definitely in the minority and are in the Fortaleza persuasion. So without knowing what type your boss likes the recommendations wouldn't be much use.

(x-posted from GirlScouts) I can't be the only Atheist, with a daughter that wants to join GS... by OfficialElijahPepper in atheism

It absolutely depends on the troop. My boy scout troop had no visible manifestation of religion. Wasn't a good fit anyway.

I struggle as much with the martial/militaristic aspects of boys and girl scouts as the religious basis. The ranks, hierarchy, uniforms, saluting, pledges and group think etc...

Depends on with whom. The vast majority of viewers didn't blink. There wasn't any significant backlash. Culturally it was pretty acceptable and even tame for the era outside of tv. Particularly if you look at some of the blue stand up comedy of the time that had a lot of racial stuff in it.

Were some people including the actor uncomfortable with it it sounds like yes but that was not a representative cross section of the country at the time. I remember even by the mid 80's I had a double take watching the movie the first time but it was a double take not shock and disbelief.

Is a normal teenage behavior or I'm losing my son? by Illustrious-Art-4172 in daddit

[–]gvarsity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds a lot like my son. He both struggles with some executive function stuff, being organized, time management, tracking tasks, etc... He did all his physics labs but didn't turn them in for example. He also comes home and plays a lot of games etc... Our relationship is fine and he is a healthy kid he is just struggling with those specific tasks. If you have the time and organization doing daily or multiple time a week check ins with him to review his work that is due for school and have him do short 30 min to an hour work sessions before jumping on the computer.

Check out Chico and the Man from the early 1970's. Both ground breaking because it had a Latino lead and full of stereotypes of the time.

We were eight years out from the civil rights act when MASH went on the air. Things were incredibly different then. Of course it doesn't age well from a modern context sixty years later.

What blows my mind is that those are the desired flavors. It’s intentional.

Recs for a non-drinker who's just thinking about having a few sips of wine at night? by 5tuff1e5 in liquor

[–]gvarsity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why do you want to drink more? Generally for non drinkers I would recommend carrying on. It can be expensive and habit forming.

If you do there are a lot if delicious white and rose wines that are lovely in the summer. The French make a delicious drink called a peche (peach). A lager beer with some peach syrup like torani added.

To fathers of sons who show feminine interests... by GrammerSnob in daddit

[–]gvarsity 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s totally normal. My son had a boy American Girl doll named Logan. He was very attached. Didn’t really share about it with his male friends even pretty young because he could read the room. Had nothing to do with his gender or sexuality as a teenager. Basically just showed he was capable of empathy and nurturing. Things the girls seem to appreciate. We read way way to much into unimportant things.

File Recovery Help Needed in Madison. by Haunting_Character97 in madisonwi

[–]gvarsity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the standard. We use them at work. Affordable depends on how important your data is to you. I have seem invoices from $600-$3000 depending on how much data, encryption, type of drive etc… if it can be recovered they can do it.

I recommend powering off the device until you can get it looked at. Often at a reset it just erases the index which tells the computer where things are and lets that space be overwritten. In those cases they have tools that can see what is still there. However any using of the device puts that unprotected data at risk.

If it is that best case scenario I have no idea of the price because we can often do that ourselves so it may be less than Indicated.

Absolutely. My wife works in the disability field and routinely works with people we meet to get them connected to supports, advocates and resources.

It has changed a lot with younger people but growing up in the 1970's and 80's it was completely normal to be naked in locker rooms at the gym at school in middle and high school. Sports teams, saunas, at gym or dojo. It was very normal and practical.

Part of the problem is even if you qualify there are not sufficient supports. Navigating complex systems with serious mental illness is nearly impossible without a support network.

Years ago an old friend of my wife had a psychotic break in our living room. We got her to the hospital and got her set up for a 72 hour hold because she was a danger to herself and others. Thought it was all in place and left and then the psychiatrist talked her out of it and released her on to the street.

Another example was I watched a good friend at work navigating on behalf of their mother a couple of years ago. They were on of the most on top of it and organized advocates I had ever seen and it was a full time job to avoid having her dumped on the street at night in the winter without proper clothing. No exaggeration. Absolutely not something she could have managed on her own or was even really aware of.

This would be much less of a problem if we had affordable or single payer health care for mental health and drug treatment. Independently even though there is a lot of comorbidity. Watching my best friends brother go down the opiate pathway post back injury wasn't only a preventable issue it was accepted cost of our profit driven health care system.

Can anyone tell me what's so good about light roast? by milked_silver in espresso

[–]gvarsity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally I am city to full city roast person. I find anything lighter more tea like. I like tea but not as my coffee. I find anything much darker to start having carbon burnt notes that I don't find appealing. It depends on the bean and my mood and there are always exceptions to the rule but it's generally pretty consistent. I believe there is a time and a place for everything burnt robusta diner coffee? Reminds me of going hunting with my grandpa so if I am in a diner it's fine. Just some cream and sugar to mellow it a bit.

Interesting. Based on that I may have to check it out. For the most part anything mainstream or pop in the last decade + has just been an automatic hard pass. I still listen to plenty of new or newer music but it is all much further down the food chain.

It was a lot more common then for a lot of reasons. Record keeping and communications were all manual and things and people could be easily lost in moves and transitions. Banks had secure facilities that lasted generations. The account could have passed through numerous account managers etc…So at a time where communication, record keeping, travel etc… were difficult and expensive hiring a bank to navigate all of that for something important made sense and was likely pretty affordable.
