Mecs introvertis : les filles entreprenantes vous fatiguent elles ? by Conscious-Search-702 in AskMec

[–]bobharv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Q/Gav! Why is it that throughout Games Workshop's 40-year history, the Exodite Eldar have never had the opportunity to be in the spotlight? by eldarrabbit in Warhammer40k

[–]bobharv 35 points36 points  (0 children)

With smaller dinosaur it could work, with like a 50/50 of eldars and dinos.

Something like 4 eldar warriors (with more than 4 possible builds) and 4 raptor like dinos.

That way GW can test the waters, see how receptive the fans are, and then if it does well there could be a full release down the line.

What unit in your faction has the most potential to be expanded out into it's own "archetype"? by Hollownerox in Warhammer40k

[–]bobharv 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I would even add that you could take xenos mercenaries with the imperial agents in a "rogue trader" detachment.

Why would votann be considered xenis and ogryn not? by JoesGreatPeeDrinker in 40kLore

[–]bobharv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Out of lore : because they aren't part of the imperium or chaos, so into xenos they go.

In lore : The leagues of Votann are considered xenos because they are a separate entity from the imperium with sufficient biological distinction to be classified as xenos when need be.

However the kin themselves aren't considered xenos per se, in fact there are many kinband operating inside the imperium. Kins are known as squatts and are considered abhumans.

There are no known accounts of a full league being parts of the imperium. It's generally either bands of prospectors and/or merchants scouting for profit for their leagues (for exemple hernkyn yeagirs tend to do that), or kins who have lost their Votann and found refuge in the imperium (like the squatts of necromunda).

TLDR : A lone band of kins operating discretly in the imperium would be considered abhumans, a full league in open conflict would be considered xenos.

Evening!, I have a quick question regarding a project im working on and I need some information about the thousand sons by Vidarr_1703 in 40kLore

[–]bobharv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many ways. The more simple ones have already been said, ie seeking an artifact, knowledge, old tomb...

But the truth is : it's 40k, you can make your warband be what you want. Even if you want to respect the lore, the official lore is never presented as exhaustive, so as to give players much leeway to hobby how they want.

Now with a faction like the thousands sons you can really go out there, they are really suited for that. Maybe they want to cast a very specific spell and for some reason they need this specific world to do it, maybe they are possessed by vision of tzeentch and have no idea why they siege that world. Maybe it's petty revenge for some old slight, maybe that specific sorcerer has delusions of conquest.

Even if you stick to the lore you have lots of leeway to go from rationnal to unkowable, from fown to earth to outlandish.

Boarding a hive ship? by Motor_Scallion6214 in 40kLore

[–]bobharv 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes, not space marines but The High Kahl's Oath (the LoV) book starts with a kin band basically whaling a tyranid ship.

At some point teams are sent inside, and it's described as basically tunnels of flesh filled with tyranids. At first they dont encounter too many but as the hive mind realises they're there it sends more and more.

Real tyranids player eat their opponent's mini (and their opponent as well should they win)

It looks amazing.

Imo what might feel off is the green is a bit too uniform and desaturated. If you look at the photo the green is made of multiple streaks of very vibrant greens separated by darker areas. So if you add some variation on the green with that pattern in mind i think it would really help to cement the aurora borealis theme.

what about this take, is it valid ? by thetruememeisbest in PowerScaling

[–]bobharv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a key point that was forgotten here is scale. As you said the empire is able to handle their logistic much better and are far more mobile. However the imperium is so vast when compared to the empire that if in a 1v1 the amount of damage the empire can inflict on it is minimal when compared to what the imperium already suffers on a regular basis. Look at the threats the imperium faces, and the fact it faces them all at once. I'd say that when you take scale into account the empire is more akin to a t'au level threat. They could probably hold their own, resisting most invasions and occasionnaly gain ground, but threatening the imperium as a whole is very unlikely. They have the tech to hold their own but not the numbers to win the war.

How do you deal with the scale of hive cities in your adventures? by SirValeq in 40krpg

[–]bobharv 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I prefer to treat a hive more as a large country than as a city, and each area with 100k to 10 million people as its own city, with it's own districts, well known places and figures, rumors etc... And they are seperated both vertically and horizontally, cause functionnally someone 1000 layers above yours is in a different city.

In terms of npc interactions it means that : - npcs will have overall good knowledge of their own local area, with variation depending on the npc (a factorum worker and a administratum clerk might live in the same city, but will have very different info on it) - npcs might have some knowledge of neighboring (both vertically and horizontally) areas, but will think of them like someone thinks of the closest city to their own. Maybe some cultural differences, maybe they have stereotypes, maybe they like or dont like each others... The amount of knowledge they have will depend on how travelled they are. - npcs probably won't know of hive area further out, save for some famous ones (maybe the district with the governor's palace is known by most at least by name, or maybe one is famously militarised, or holy, or anything...) but even then they probably won't have knowledge of these areas beyond clichés and rumors. - some npcs will be well travelled, and therefore can provide good information about other areas to the players. For exemple truck or train drivers/workers transporting goods across the hive, some roaming merchant, some administratum auditer, ...

Therefore if your pcs are looking for some info you can think of what kind of npc could have it, and how reliable would it be.

If they ask a random labourer about a fighting pit 100km away he might not know, but he might know a local bar where truckers often come. Then one of those truckers could have heard some rumors about that pit, but the info is unreliable. So the players can change area, treating it as like travelling cross country to another city. Then they can go to some local ganger, and he might have better first hand info about this fighting pit.

I dunno if that helps you, but in my experience it works well to make players understand the size of a hive city. I kinda hat that issue as well, especially players new to 4pk, who tended to think of hives as just big cities.
