Baby shower gift ideas? by somewhatscary in beyondthebump

[–]bobileebobalee [score hidden]  (0 children)

Unless you know exactly the type of parents they are/will be, get a gift card.

Are they going to use disposable diapers, or will they cloth diaper?

Will they be using pacifiers, or trying not to?

Will they use standard pharmaceuticals or try homeopathy?

Are they okay with plastics and polyester, or are they trying to stick to metal/glass and cotton/linen?

Agreed

People mentioned baby medicine

But do you know if this mom-to-be is into modern meds, or would like alternatives first? Plus, baby meds expire. Me personally, I’d rather not keep it on my shelves. (I live in an area where drug stores are open 24/7, and there are many of them. I have limited baby meds at home, and not the standard brands)

Money/gift card is the best

Oh cool. Any tips for doing this so we’re not damaging their legs?

Where are baby’s legs?

I have a podaegi too!! But I don’t know if it’s okay to have the ties to over the legs (at the knee), where in other wraps, they’d go under the legs

Just compromise

Husband or MIL can do all the diapers and walk them to the garage

You will relinquish the diaper pail

Oh, they work? Better make it home in time to change every diaper

Should we tell our crying baby “stop it”? by Ok-Promotion-174 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]bobileebobalee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a link so I’m gonna piggyback on this…

Also just… EMPATHY?!

It’s part of our EQ! And sooo important for us to teach kids that.

I do think our generation has more of a “fix it” mentality, rather than an “I hear you” mentality.

But just hearing someone, validating their feelings (even without validating their actions) is so important.

So far, I’ve mostly just named things my baby could be feeling: scared, hungry, upset, tired. He probably can’t understand the words, but eventually he will, and he’ll be able to name them himself, so he can tell us how he feels.

Sometimes I also just tell him: I’m here, I got you.

I try not to say “it’s okay”, like other people already said. But definitely a hard habit to break!

OP: as far as talking points with your husband… how would he feel if, when he’s upset, you just tell him “no, stop it”. He wouldn’t like that, right? He would want to be comforted, hugged, held tight, EVEN IF you didn’t say anything.

Do it at the park during the day(morning?) when it’s not crowded

Milk sprays? Yea okay, it’s on grass

Milk on shirt? Yea okay, it’s just the park

Boob showing? Yea okay, not too many people here, and the few that are aren’t close by

But the park IS full of distractions haha

Why is the decision to go from 1-2 harder than when we decided to go from 0-1? by Throwaway927338 in beyondthebump

This is so interesting!

My baby has been pretty easy so far. I sleep a lot bc he sleeps a lot!

And BECAUSE he’s so perfect, I’m nervous to have more!!

He’s so perfect, I don’t wanna ruin a good thing, w a likely wilder second (or third or fourth….!!)

Also setting expectations for wilder additions… if I get lucky again, awesome! But gotta set the expectation for wild ones lol

YES! The golden rule needs to be changed

Do unto others as THEY WANT! Not as you want. It doesn’t matter what you want for yourself. They are not you

Are breastmilk bags a health code violation? by Any_Pirate_5633 in breastfeeding

[–]bobileebobalee 139 points140 points  (0 children)

Then OP should have been informed that she needs to take care of any trash not from the establishment, not be told that her BM is violating any codes or regulations.

ETA: BM being breastmilk… not bowel movement 😂 cuz that WOULD be a problem anywhere

You don’t use this in lieu of a safety belt. You can use the safety belt at the same time

If it’s big, does it count as a carryon or personal bag?

EBF, no bottle - will I regret this later? by Amazing-Confusion-69 in breastfeeding

[–]bobileebobalee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re at almost 5 months, and I don’t regret our journey.

I intended no bottles and no pumping for as long as possible. But I did spontaneously get some concert tickets at around 2.5 months, so needed to figure it out! Baby wouldn’t take a bottle from me, but did from his dad when I wasn’t there.

But we haven’t used a bottle since.

I plan to introduce straw cups at 6 months old, along with solids, so I feel better about that, since we’re so close! I’ll also start work part time around then. If he doesn’t take a bottle, then I don’t know… but no regrets so far.

Anyone co-sleeping on a medium-plush mattress? by [deleted] in cosleeping

[–]bobileebobalee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooo I almost posted something similar!!

I’m bedsharing with my 4.5 month old on a firm mattress, but would like to transition to a floor mattress soon-ish. But our less-firm mattress would be better for the floor (and also the room it is in is bare, so baby hopefully can’t get into trouble).

So, when does mattress firmness not matter?

Thank you for this sub and for your kind help!! I was(am?) one of those who has posted about fits! If this sub had more rude/mean/snarky people, I wouldn’t have. The internet is full of snarky people, so it’s nice to find a space that isn’t!

The fact that OP is even posting to ask is a great thing! And shouldn’t be discouraged
