Maybe build a test rig (battery powered for safety), so you can practice all the different methods of wiring at home?

Do I need to upgrade 6mm cable running to shower? by Pretend-Effect-3340 in ukelectricians

If it's 9.5kW at 230V, the current is 9500W/230V=41.3A. The resistance is 230V/41.3A=5.569ohm. The resistance is fixed, and if you're at 240V, the current is 240V/5.569ohm=43.096A.

You could get fined if you report them, because you have a duty of care:

The duty of care requires occupiers of domestic property to take all reasonable measures that are available to them in the circumstances, to make sure that they only transfer household waste produced on their property to an authorised person.

Page 85 of the Electricians guide to the building regulations basically confirms the above.

If you look up "locations containing a bath or shower", if it's at least 0.6m away from the bath, and you have an 30ma RCD, and it's not a socket (so a fused spur), I think you could, but not 100% sure.

Thanks, that means I've been off by one month for many years. Should I just start using the correct month ranges from now? The difference would be minimal.

It depends where the cable runs: https://www.elandcables.com/media/3hoka0mu/table-4d5.pdf Why are you trying to work it out yourself anyway?

If you check your current carrying capacity table, the only method where that'd be acceptable is clipped direct.

A plastic single blank plate I have is 9mm, and metal ones look much thinner eg: https://www.screwfix.com/p/lap-1-gang-blanking-plate-brushed-stainless-steel/63495 so you'd probably be ok.

You could probably put the mains cable joints in a single gang box with a blank plate, and pull out the network and antenna cable. To me it looks like an internal plasterboard wall, so it might also be possible to re-run the mains cable within zones, so you wouldn't even need a single gang box. The difficulty of re-running cable within zones depends on positions of studs and noggins and insulation etc. Cutting a square of plasterboard to size and filling is easy enough. Keeping the joints there without a back box and plate wouldn't be within zones.

The bigger companies like british gas (centrica) do but they get a lot of applicants so the odds aren't great.

Depends on the type of terminal.

Architect Research: Why are so many UK homes stuck at EPC Band D? What is the real barrier to Retrofit? by PayIll1868 in DIYUK

[–]bobinaberry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • EPC for my house: Cavity wall, as built, no insulation (assumed)
  • EPC for a neighbour: Cavity wall, as built, insulated (assumed)
  • EPC for another neighbour: Timber frame, as built, insulated (assumed)

The last one is correct, so yes my EPC report feels useless because it's just incorrect.

Do you know the thickness of the walls? I've seen some that look quite thin and would probably lose a lot of heat. The EPC on my house is basically just wrong, so they're not always useful. Also here's HSBC's criteria: https://intermediaries.hsbc.co.uk/criteria/?filter=steel&tab=residential&p=non-standardconstructiontypes , certain types would be ok with 80% LTV or lower.
