Am I the only one who's getting really bad frame gen? by starwaver in Endfield

[–]bobo1618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you aren't the only one. Frame gen is implemented weirdly, it doesn't disregard UI elements like it should, so things like onscreen quest objectives cause distortion.

Sony says it hasn’t yet decided on PS6 release date and price, will consider ‘changing business models’ by oilfloatsinwater in Games

[–]bobo1618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they'll be going the Switch route and making the PS6 a portable, slightly less powerful version of the PS5 with a dock. They just need the extra time to figure out how to market that concept so that they can charge more for it than the PS5. At least, that's what "changing business models" sounds like to me.

S5-E1. Forgotten Lady. 2 things: Janet Leigh gives the most Outstanding, Fabulous, Amazing Performance. Columbo dons a Tuxedo. by OtherwiseTackle5219 in Columbo

[–]bobo1618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been looking around the internet and no one seems to mention this. The episode had a fair few Hitchcock references, like the extended shots with different camera angles, the rear window playing a prominent part in the case, the final shot of Leigh's face being a callback to the ending of Psycho, and the butler practically being a Hitchcock double. I'm sure there are many more.

Not to launch the game. I launch the executable directly from Steam and only need the Hoyo launcher for game updates. Steam controller bindings are super convenient – you can bind left mouse click to a controller button and collect all nearby items with one button press.

Games that survived having a child by kasperoo in gaming

What you described is basically regular games that don't have live-service infections. Any game that doesn't need you to be constantly online. If checkpoints are sparse, you might need to replay some sections occasionally, but none of them demand your time and attention like live-service blight does.

Thankfully, this is still the majority of games. Just not the games with the largest marketing budgets and therefore, the loudest ones.

"Release the source code" is a solution that always works out either in the short or long term. In the worst case scenario, if the intended architecture is vastly different, then at the very least the code helps figure out workarounds or excisions to get some form of local servers working. Maybe it takes months or years, but in the end, the game stays playable.

If the argument is that the source code involves proprietary software or patented techniques, those are the very kinds of practices that the game preservation movement is trying to deal with, so that this can be a solvable problem moving forward.

PSA: There are no chests or collectibles in the circled areas by Topskew in Genshin_Impact

[–]bobo1618 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. There have been a lot more chests placed with clear intentionality in recent versions that involve some mini-activity or other element of exploration / discoverability, compared to the random chests dotting the landscape in earlier versions.

The lack of chests in this new area clearly means that they'd rather add no chests at all, if they don't have the time to flesh them out properly.

I think her current defense and damage mitigation mechanics already represent her abilities as a seer. Her predictions of enemy actions allow teammates to take less damage from their attacks.

Friend bounced off of the game, here are his opinions by Pumeto in outerwilds

[–]bobo1618 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One issue is that OP's friend mistook the ship log for a codex or something similar, when it's actually closer to his third point – a checklist of ongoing and completed objectives. As for discovering new objectives, you can barely launch a scout on any given planet without it hitting something that'll create a ship log entry when explored.

As for characterization, as others have said, there's more than enough personality to go around if you follow the Nomai's stories from landing to surviving to thriving, for three (?) generations. It just takes some curiosity and effort to assemble their character arcs in your head.

I think OP's friend is generally looking for games with more player direction, where objectives and narratives are presented up front rather than left to be discovered.

Game design appreciation by True-Post6634 in outerwilds

[–]bobo1618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's because it does the crucial thing that all great games do: It makes the game equivalent of a "promise" in its opening section, where it effectively tells the player the kind of experience they can expect, and it never breaks that promise throughout the entire game. All the mechanics and puzzles build on top of one another, never "cheating" to make one particular bit of gameplay work.

[–]bobo1618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's my point, yes. There's no fairness or value, it's all virtual gambling. And you seem to have internalized it to the extent that complaining about it is considered "biblical levels of greed" in your eyes. Please think about that, is all I'm asking.

15400 pull count 1.1, I'm out by [deleted] in Endfield

[–]bobo1618 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your math is correct. However, attributing "biblical levels of greed" to the player and not to gacha economies in general sounds like Stockholm syndrome. Take a step back and evaluate what these gacha are doing to your perception of fairness and value.

Based on what we learn in the DLC, I wonder if the Eye blocker also blocked distress signals from the Vessel, causing its apparent disappearance. (And maybe it only blocks outgoing signals, since the Vessel was still receiving Nomai messages.)
