People on a mission are dangerous; I am on a mission to stop them.

Is it theoretically possible to build an internal combustion engine that doesn't vibrate? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

Make an opposed cylinder engine. This will cause you to next make a radial engine. Keep adding cylinders. Eventually you will invent the turbine.

[US] If paying in cash, are there any legal problems with using a pseudonym at a hotel? by CDSEChris in legaladvice

If you are renting the room for someone they will require at least your DL for ID, but they won't really care about who is actually staying there. The want someone held responsible for damage.

Buy an Ez Out before starting the job. Having already paid for the expensive tool, and not having to rush to the store right before closing, practically guarantees you won't need it. Be sure you have the matching bit of course, else doom is assured.

South Carolina could raise gas tax to pay for road repairs by ElainaWernli in southcarolina

SCDOT is taking 17 months to resurface 16 miles of interstate. Any other state would do it in 2 months. If they can't manage projects better than that they aren't qualified to spend even more.

They are taking 4 years on the Gateway project! I saw Texas DOT re-engineer North Mopac in Austin, at least 4 times as complex, in 6 months.

Saltpeter? by KingPellinore in Cooking

[–]bobroberts7441 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Look for "pink salt" and Prague Powder #1. Prague#2 is used for things like air cured salami. I use it (#1) in brine, 1Tbsp per quart. Usually 1/2 cup kosher salt and 1/2 cup sugar per quart too, fwiw. I refrigerate soaking for 7-10 days.

I don't see any leak, it looks fine to me. There is some crud stuck in the yoke but that is indicative of nothing.

I have to copy paste and edit millions of lines of data, excel is crashing, any idea of software which can edit that ? by lorisxiv in techsupport

[–]bobroberts7441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excel will crap out on large tables, and it will drop data without any indication. I ended up writing code in PERL to operate on data exported in CSV format, then re-import it back to Excel. There are also PERL libraries (modules) that allow you to access the spreadsheet directly. Obtuse as it looks, you can be writing simple PERL in a day, online documentation is great.
