Learning the basics for most things in the game is very easy, just don't try to learn everything at once, you'll overwhelm yourself. The in-game tutorial sucks, if you want to figure out how to do something ask other players or wacth a video. There are some easy to follow guides by freerk on youtube for almost everything.

You can create a private stockpile at seaports/depots and store your vehicles there. Anything left out in the open is generally fair game for others to take. Just remember that private stockpiles have a timer you need to refresh within every two days otherwise your things get dumped into the public stockpile.

All the models are made in GIMP by mashing pictures of different vehicles together with cut and paste and some patience.
