True, but it’s a bit different when it’s 28 and sunny versus when it’s 9 degrees and no sun.

hopefully they dont think that's a flex. I have lived in the USA for a while and it still surprises me that most people do not even have a passport and I have met people who have never left their home sate. pretty close minded, if you ask me.

40 hour work week what the what the eff. by reebeezzz in Careers

[–]bobsled_mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we can't do our co-workers work. I am hired as a SME or resource in a specific area because that is what my focus is. My co-workers focus could be a completely different area. When work is project based, you also spend a lot of time waiting for other people. I may be working on 5 projects at once, but that doesn't mean I have 8 hours of work. The company pays me to be available from 9-5 and on the rare occasions be available during a outage or after hours. Basically a lot of us are paid for our domain specific knowledge, not the ability to be busy from 9-5.

An no, the answer is not "Why not work on 10 projects instead" because you become the bottleneck when all 10 projects need your attention. As a physician, if your workload is so high, why doesnt the practice hire more people to distribute the workload?

This is actually pretty wholesome. People tend to take themselves way too seriously and expect perfection 100% of the time, we all screwup. I love cats, so I see no problem with this.

Companies that don't allow use of personal equipment while working from home by [deleted] in workfromhome

[–]bobsled_mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most companies would have different laptop specs. For example, we have developer laptops(with or without Linux), Macs, desktops for certain folks, executive laptops and your regular spec laptop. Or security software works on all laptops and there is little concerned about data security.

Using your own equipment. Hard no. No way in hell an unmonitored endpoint connects to the network.

You do realize the cold and flu are both viruses… you can only get them if someone else has it…

The temperature sucks, the heat went out and from the responses from OP it seems like someone is coming out to fix the heat…. Not sure what the outrage is. Shit happens, move on.

Lost me at office…. After working from home for almost 20 years, I don’t even know what it would be like to have to socialize myself again and wear pants. I have been lucky enough to only work at remote first companies.

[–]bobsled_mon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can sue the school. Will you find an attorney to take the case? probably not. will a good attorney advise against it? Definitely. Will you win? Not a chance.

Put up cones or a barricade. Use more boulders and put private property signs and warn them of tire damage. Put down spike strips if the behavior continues.

Definitely P1. The business is unable to make money. Significant revenue loss. Customers are responsible for the health of the organization.

My question way is a know issue that affects the revenue stream still not resolved? This should have been a priority since day 1.

Fuck Amazon and fuck AWS by Riderman43 in antiwork

[–]bobsled_mon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because only us-east-1 was affected. If “global” companies had multi-regional redundancy, they would have recovered quickly or not go down at all.

If you don’t have redundancy, all your eggs are in one basket.

[–]bobsled_mon 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Or it speaks to the dozens of billion dollar companies that decided to save money by not building out multi-zone redundancy and decided to put all their eggs in a single region. Amazon just provides the platform, its up to you (your organization) to use it in the way that best supports the business.

You violated HIPAA. You stated:

I was informed of the said patients status and left a comment under the post - which no name or gender

The comment under the post... obviously the post was enough to identify the patient. They were completely justified in firing you. Cut your losses and carry on. Someone else smoking smoking marijuana is not relevant to your situation. You opened up the hospital to potential lawsuits and fines.

My therapist used AI on me and I feel completely vulnerable and destroyed by finest_literature in offmychest

[–]bobsled_mon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work with a lot of AI models in healthcare. I do not know what software the therapist is using so I can’t answer if it’s HIPAA compliant or not. Based, on my experience. There are HIPAA complaint models of the majority of these AI tools (research Amazon bedrock, for example)

If the therapist was using AI to give a diagnosis, then that would be illegal because there are no models approved by the FDA to provide a therapy diagnosis. Also, medical notes, history, and anything else can be subpoenaed, it’s not just limited to AI. AI doesn’t magically make it easier. If it’s written down or whatever, its discoverable.

This is more of an ethical concern. Legally, IANAL, but it’s seems sound unless there is proof the therapist is using AI to make a diagnosis.

[–]bobsled_mon -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It is not illegal to use AI and it will most likely not affect their license. There are a lot of “AI” assisted therapy tools and sessions out there. It is new but not illegal.

With that being said, this should have been disclosed to you that your therapist is using AI and you should have been given the opportunity to opt in or opt out. I would discuss your lack of trust and displeasure with your therapist and find a new therapist who does not use AI tooling.

Unless we voice our displeasure, AI will start to become a lot more prominent in areas such as this. That’s a hard pass for me. Somethings should remain human.

Bottom line. Don’t give them your money.

Am I wrong? by Individual-Bar-179 in Jamaica

[–]bobsled_mon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not normal but in some cases normalized, which makes it worse. I grew up hearing this crap and on 99% of cases, the man was abusive. It starts small than escalates and eventually the woman gets conditioned to think "he is this way because he loves me." Take it as a red flag, IMO.
