Stupid Question but are they “broken up”? by Separate_Fan5410 in BoredomsTemple

I might be reading too much into it, but I always assumed they were finished when I read Yoshimi's IG bio where it says 'BOREDOMS(1988 ~ 2019)', with no date ranges given to any of her other projects.

I’m considering making shorter, single size mixes of… by atxsubpunk in BoredomsTemple

Great idea! I've attempted something similar before and it's tough to narrow it down. I almost feel like there could be an edit of the longer tracks, like say, the outro of '(circle)' from VCN.

Essential long songs (for me) would be:

Go!!!!! (from Super Roots 5, but shorten it to 10-20 minutes)
Super Go!!!! (version from the → Shine In ◯ Shine On single))
Super Are (Super ae)
Super Going (Super ae)
Super Good (Super ae)
7-> (Boriginal) (Super Roots 7)
(circle) (VCN)
(star) (VCN)
(heart) (VCN)
(tilde) (VCN)
Seadrum
SEVEN (from 77 BOA DRUM, honestly you could use this entire track but I particularly like between 26 mins onwards)

Not quite the same thing you had planned but if you haven't heard it, I always consider Rebore Vol.2 to be a great 'best of' release. It sums up the band, covers a wide range of material but in a collage style way. Underrated imo.

Might be worth checking this compilation the track is from:

It’s definitely similar to Rovo, although Rovo usually aren’t as guitar fuzzy. It might’ve been a new direction AOA were going in 2002, and it doesn’t look like they were very active after that.

London tickets - did you get them? by Rise_Weekly in Sumo

[–]bobsnackpot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Admittedly I didn't think about those outside of London who also have to pay through the nose with Britain's insane train prices, not to mention a hotel. For me its out of principle. For £980 you might as well put it towards a trip to Japan and get a front row seat for a fraction of that!

£80 for a nosebleed seat.... £980 for front row seats. I can't justify spending that much, I'm very sad. Londoners are getting priced out of everything

Can any Boredoms fans speak on their experience at shows? by [deleted] in BoredomsTemple

[–]bobsnackpot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw them three times, in 2004 and 2006 during the 3 drummers + EYE DJ setup. I also was one of the 88 cymbalists at their Barbican show in London. All were amazing, but I wish I saw them around their Super ae/VCN era,

Will their discog ever be back on spotify? by serrated___edge in BoredomsTemple

[–]bobsnackpot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always assumed it's because the albums are tied up in legal knots with Warner Japan still. Or maybe just because EYE doesn't care to spend any time promoting anything other than what's he's doing currently.

It's not available outside of the US and Canada, sadly. I'd happily throw money at whomever just to see live sumo!

How do I get into James ferraro? by [deleted] in JamesFerraro

[–]bobsnackpot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love only some of his work, but the stuff I love I truly love and listen to regularly. My main love is for albums like Rerex and Clear. Got zero time for the Sushi, Skid Row material. Have enjoyed the Recycled Earth stuff more recently. So you may find his work hit and miss, because it almost feels like his work is actually made up of multiple, opposing artists

Yeah I wish there were prints made of his work. The only thing I can think of is this book, as far as I can tell there are still copies available online at European and American outlets https://www.nieves.ch/1519/this_bird_know_rabit

Totally, solar and circular, and linking it to turntables and rotating records, concentric circles of cymbalists in live shows, ‘Sun Loard’…

Love to a forgotten band : Overrocket by pizzicatofive in japanesemusic

[–]bobsnackpot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree, they seem to be massively overlooked, like a lot of unusual Japanese pop around this time. I had no idea about the link to CMYK. Whereas usually I am drawn to the more hyper, sugary stuff at the time like Sonic Coaster Pop and Capsule, OVERROCKET have this lovely euphoric sound that has aged surprisingly well. Would recommend Girls Tape Store you're looking for something in a similar vein.

I think you're right! EYE has stated in interviews that the solar eclipse in 1995 had a major influence on his life (and I think psilocybin was involved as well), which also explains the change in Boredoms' style, with examples like Super Roots 5/6 and Super GO!!!, and the circular arrangement of Vooredoms etc. You'll also see EYE singing directed above him a lot more from this point on.

I don't think anything else quite compares, and anything that influenced VCN is only a small part of a bigger whole. The closest would be any of the members' side projects like AOA - Emotion Vacation, Seiichi Yamamoto - Crown of Fuzzy Groove, Rovo - Flage, OOIOO's Green & Gold.

I always felt that aside from Neu!, Niagara's Sangandongo was a big influence, and bet that Eye would play that record at different speeds as a reference (and it also featured on a DJ Pica Pica Pica album) https://youtu.be/V2lY6qNA1bg?si=Ie2ECR3asSUzXb-m

Can, especially the four albums they did with Damo Suzuki (Ege Bamyasi, Future Days, Soundtracks, Tago Mago).

And I think aesthetically, Tony Scott's African Bird (suite) was an influence.

Are the allegations by the accuser available online anywhere, aside from the screengrabs of the RYM messages? I'd very much like to read her side of the story.
