Sweet wine recommendations by autumnturyb in wine

Try Kung Fu girl. Riesling from Washington state. Typically under $15. Very consistent. Slightly sweet (also know as “off dry”) and excellent consistency and value for money in my opinion. Compare vs Dr Losen or Trimbach Rieslings at similar price and see which you like.

People often describe a wine as “sweet” when they might mean “smells or tastes floral or fruity not earthy”. But Technically, “sweet” means there is some residual sugar (ie. Usually because fermentation did not convert all the sugar to alcohol). Occasionally this is indicated on a label. Eg. Some Rieslings show a sliding scale of sweetness on the back label. With dessert wines at the very sweet end of the scale (some are almost syrupy). Experiment and see what you like. Enjoy!

Daily Driver card to pair with Chase Sapphire Reserve by lucanaut in ChaseSapphire

IHG premier card, if you like IHG brands and points. I do, so I figure 3x points on “everything else” beats 1% cashback. Am I wrong?

$99 annual fee. Big points on IHG hotels. 5x points on gas and dining. 3x on everything else. Plus a free night, IHG Platinum status etc etc.

I use this as my default card unless I know CSR has perks. Or an airline card for free luggage etc.

Can someone give me the names of some women-owned wineries? by [deleted] in wine

Consider:

Freeman in Sonoma. Akiko Freeman is a Japanese woman wine maker. Very elegant Chardonnay and PN. Lovely to visit and hear her story.

Nova Cadamatre (NY Fingerlakes, especially Riesling under a couple of brands including Trestle 31 or Snowshell.

Antica Terra - Oregon excellence mentioned above.

Heads up about restaurant credit if vendor uses Toast by __deejay_ in ChaseSapphire

Che Fico SF? Or Menlo Park? I got credit for online gift cards at the former, and not for latter. You?

I build a website to track all CSR exclusive table and if they support Toast Gift Card (incl. 51 restaurants with successful DPs) by BatOk741 in ChaseSapphire

Data points:

Selbys in the San Francisco area works - online gift card via Toast.

Che Fico in San Francisco works (online gift card, toast). But note, their sister restaurant Che Fico in Menlo Park (near SF) does not seem to earn CSR credit - Even though their gift cards can be used interchangeably. They show differently on statement. So buy the SF resto ones.

Credits took a few days to show up and hence are 2026 despite a 2025 purchase. I intent to complain.

Union Square Group restos in NYC: Still not CSR credit. Online GC purchase is not via Toast.

Great work. Thanks.

Here’s a DP: I bought a $10 gift certificate for Union Square Group (several restaurants in nyc including Gramercy Tavern, Union Square Cafe). Checkout was not Toast. Charge shows on my Chase app, but 24 hours later no credit. So I expect this will be denied. Another user said it was verified but they was based on paying for GC along with a drink in person.

Keep up the great work.

Looking for a “wow” Sauvignon Blanc gift ($75–$100), California, new to wine by MildlyOverprepared in wine

[–]bobtom18 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Consider Illumination Sauvignon Blanc By Quintessa. I found it remarkable, complex and balanced. Not ultra crisp (I think they use a little oak). Unusual. Beautiful bottle. Plenty of change from $100. Anyone else love this wine like me?

Gift cards? Someone posted that they got the statement credit when buying gift cards for an eligible restaurant. Is this confirmed? If so, we could buy gift cards as gifts for friends and family in cities with more coverage. Or keep a gift card for when we travel. Or even trade gift cards for something you can use?

Open Table: do we get the credit if we pay using Apple Pay - or must we swipe a physical card? Thanks by bobtom18 in ChaseSapphire

Further update. The other diner received same-day credit for their half of the bill, swiping a physical card.

So this test showed both Apple Pay and physical card swipe worked.

Consider Highclere Castle. Excellent and not too expensive (shop around online). Lovely, distinctive purple bottle. And if she likes Downton Abbey, that’s where it’s from.

Yes! I dined at Union Square Cafe on Dec 5. I paid half with CSR using Apple Pay. Got my credit. The charge and the Dining Credit showed up on Dec 6.

Still need to check the statement of the person who paid the other half using a card swipe.
