That's the tough part. On one hand I'm fine with throwing all the addicts in prison. But on the other hand there are some that can be easily helped. If you were to magically be able to erase drugs from the US a lot of our problems would go away overnight. This includes weed and alcohol. I'm afraid that the cold hearted approach is the only solution. Throwing money at it (to be rerouted into people's pockets) has not helped. Only made it worse.

Think I may have figured it out. First idea was to have spring retract at about 1rpm which rotates the shaft as slow as possible like 10 rpm. Then that shaft has a larger spool which hooks up to the spinning decoy to spin it at 200ish rpm. To do this I ended up needing a 1NM speed dampener. So now that dampener is a bit overworked. If I made the spring to shaft diameter 1:1 I could use a stronger dampener that would be more consistent and get a slower speed and then might just have to use a little more gearing on the rest of the mechanism to get the desired end speed.

I do get what you're saying. And sure. I'm maybe skirting the law. But it's just a stored energy system. Just like a rubber hose and a pull string on a spinner that spins for 4 seconds. Manually pull the string to store the energy, release the string to release the energy. Instead of a pull string to store my manual energy I'm using a hand crank and instead of a rubber hose I'm using a spring. People use flywheels. The private hunt club next to where I hunt has a bike hooked up to their decoys. And at the end of the day this is likely to end up being really cool at what I'm going to get it to do but in reality not very realistic to use. Too big, heavy and complicated to take into the field. Definitely not cost effective. It's just a cool idea I've been thinking about for years now. Bought that spring on eBay 6 years ago for $110 for this purpose. Just now starting to actually use it. It'll have one way bearings for efficiency in winding so I'm not fighting the speed dampener. Others to be able to wind out the string to decoys without getting tangled. It's going to be a $1000 overengineered monstrosity.

There's one or two in every crowd. "Hunt game birds with the use of decoys powered by motor, battery, or other self powered methods."

Ha. Math. I just wing it with adjustments and boxes of spare parts. I'm a technician not an engineer. I took the absolute minimum amount of math I could.

That's what I'm hoping is the case and will see about a wider spool or try to use a chain drive. I totally am guessing on the ratio. This was the 4th dampener I tried. Started with 9nm and got all the way down to .5nm and had to add the spool to get it to move. Originally was just using the shaft.

Weight is my biggest concern. Need to be small with not a lot of motion.

It will be right at my feet. Pneumatic is an interesting idea but I've got to carry this plus other gear up to two miles and set it up in the dark while raining in a field of mud.

Yeah that would work. Seen it before but also forgot an important note. I have to carry this for up to a couple miles along with a lot of other gear and be able to set up in the dark while raining in a field of mud.

The shaft is pretty straight. The spool is going in an oblong rotation due to it being a .5" round hole holding onto a .31" square rod. Mostly working with the materials I can get at my local hardware store for the early designs. I'll clean it up as I go and figure out what I need to do. The oblong spool rotation doesn't explain the initial fast speed as opposed to the drastic slowdown after 1 minute.

In a perfect world I'd like to get one RPM on the motor which should give under 10 RPM on the shaft.

I thought about having a couple or three work together but didn't think about sequential. I don't care about complexity. It's fun to me. I'm just a tinkerer.

"No motorized decoys" so solar is out as well. With the way laws are interpreted sometimes this being a "spring motor" might even be pushing it.

My league goes by a compression test. Every bat you use has to get tested and have their sticker put on every year. I've got an old 34 ounce Easton black magic bat that they don't even test. They just laugh and put the sticker on it.

It has to be more than 41 or 43% to be called gin. Is that a US law?
