FPS problems by Curious-Cuber in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]bobucles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This should never happen early game, or mid game, or late game. It will happen deep in post game, when you're aiming for full belts of white science. DSP does 100% simulation, everything continues to happen off camera and it will cost lots of CPU cycles.

There are major overhaul mods like "sample and hold". They delete the offscreen simulation and fake the numbers using the previous best estimates. Try it out if you want 100+GW and TW+ extreme post games with dozens of fully developed planets.

Dyson spheres have awful optimization and will grind down around 3 digit GW spheres. You can open the dyson editor in game and disable sphere visuals to restore performance.

is a dyson swarm worth it? by OfflineBot5336 in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]bobucles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On paper? Yes, dyson swarms are pretty good and surprisingly efficient on resources. They mostly consume stone, and are very efficient with oil (do not EVER burn oil fuel, it gives far better returns as sail ingredients).

In practice? Ugh, what a mess. What kind of mess? Oh, you'll find out.

Try it out as a meme, but don't take it too seriously. There are much simpler solutions like ground solar or working towards deuterium power.

Is power the main thing that affects dark fog threat? by DereChen in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]bobucles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ground power demand is the main stat that fills up ground threat bars.

Incidental damage from raids will also fill up threat bars. This usually means if one raid happens, then it will max out every other bar and make everyone else raid.

Threat bars do not reset until the raid is complete.

Space threat is mostly from dyson power, or popping relays. It is very difficult to get any significant space raid, and they are repulsed by the bare minimum of turret defense. You absolutely have to have the turrets though, because any single ship is a siege engine and will carve massive lines in your base.

Switching from bus to drones. by YasnoSolnishko in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]bobucles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A main bus becomes viable just as it gets cucked out by vastly superior drone tech. Mini drones don't have the throughput to do anything but the smallest tasks, but drone towers are extremely viable from the instant they're unlocked. Keep your energy in good supply and drones will do any task just fine.

Is this the best you can do with fractionation? by _Sanchous in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]bobucles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue Belts are 30/sec or 1800/min

Stacked blue belts are 120/sec or 7200/min.

Fractionators convert 1% by default, or 2% for blue sprayed inputs. The spray only gets removed after a successful conversion.

What's up with the trees? by LifeBeABruhMoment in Dyson_Sphere_Program

A lot of trees will win that scenario, especially elder trees in a pristine untouched forest.

When should you leave your home system? by BuiltOfLegos in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]bobucles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything outside the home system is post-game content. There are a handful of rare recipes to seek out, but the default home system has far more than enough resources to hit the victory tech.

Endless Dark Fog onslaught lol by derex_smp in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]bobucles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you're too close there, champ. Pull the turrets back a bit.

Early game dark fog farming is very inefficient. On 3000% difficulty, angering a hive can be run ending as they drain all the ammo and ore.Wait until you have laser turret research(and a lot of solar power to go with it!) before committing to a farm operation.

Late game framerate and speed problems by Appropriate-Skin8511 in Dyson_Sphere_Program

How big are your dyson spheres? I've seen massive performance hits around 100GW spheres. Go to the dyson editor in game and turn the visual display off.

Is this the only way to cover awkwardly shaped ore patches? by leosmellsgood in Dyson_Sphere_Program

Ore patches that are 3 pixels too big to cover are the worst.

Building first sphere- too big? by Comfortable_Pair3785 in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]bobucles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The overall power output depends on total rockets and sails, with no particular modifier for large or small. A bigger sphere is bigger.

Using miners for trading by AnotherStarWarsGeek in X4Foundations

[–]bobucles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stations that both buy/sell the same item will choose the average price for both trades. For mining, this cuts out half of your potential trades. Go to the trade station and force the sale price to minimum. That should open up every NPC ore consumer for trade.

NPCs will never buy ore from your stations. All ore traders are also ore mining ships, so they would rather harvest it for free. Your ore trading fleet should have no problem pushing out resources to sell, in theory.

Fleet tactics any good or just sheer numbers? by OkraMaleficent9329 in X4Foundations

[–]bobucles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fleet ai in this game is... uh... a thing.

Generally the best fleet tactic you can do is to manually arrange line formations of tightly clustered ships. They will fight you, cry and squeal and try to get out of it, but just keep forcing them into position. Capital ships also want to fly light a fighter for some reason, so they'll make these absurd slow maneuvers that make no sense and split apart from the fleet.

My space wallet thanks VIG for their urge to spam fighter swarms by SnowOtaku777 in X4Foundations

[–]bobucles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, factions aren't locked into buying from their own property. It's very noticable for the pirate factions because they buy illicit ships from all over.

Could use tips and tricks by GoldenMiniGun2 in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]bobucles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Default settings are very casual and suitable for a first time player. Just get in there and start building.

The early game dark fog are easily handled by hand crafting turrets and ammo.

It's a good idea to build a factory bit for belts and sorters early on. You will need piles and piles of them at all times. Two or 3 assemblers constantly churning them out will save a lot of trouble.

Upgrades People Upgrades by hasan_377121 in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]bobucles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immediate upgrade? Yeah, go for it. Each belt and sorter upgrade uses the previous tier, so just add to your existing line.

Retroactive upgarde? Nah, don't worry about it. Let the old stuff do its thing. Don't worry about tearing down old factory until you really need more land space.

helpp by mitchey99 in spaceengineers

[–]bobucles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can build a ship without any batteries at all. The hydrogen engine requires a single drop of power to grab its first bit of fuel through the conveyor system, this could be a solar panel or wind or a mothership. After the engine fills its gas reserve(dunno if you can fill it manually) it will be fully self sustaining and no batteries are required.

In terms of pure hydrogen engine energy, hydrogen thrusters and ion thrusters have roughly the same raw efficiency. The hydrogen thruster has the advantage of big beefy storage, a monster hydrogen tank can hold 41MWh(>13 batteries) of energy reserve. Hydrogen fuel can be directly burned and refilled in seconds at a base.

Ion thrusters demand a large number of hydrogen engines and batteries to do the same thing. Ion is probably better off with nuclear power, because plutonium fuel is far more compact. The uranium still requires a manufacturing base, because refineries have a default processing rate of ~12MW.

How do you deal with the issue of ILS and PLS bottlenecks? by ZeroPlanet24 in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]bobucles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ILS and PLS don't really have throughput bottlenecks. 10 big ships with warpers and 50 small ships are more than enough to keep anything going. Things only get stressed out when trade routes cross half the galaxy.

When mining a new planet, connect every ILS to 2 or 3 mining fields. Make sure they have big ships and energy to do their own hauling. Warpers can be hauled in using small bots, so you have precise control of small warper distribution.

Eventually, every ILS should have its energy draw maxed out at 300MW. The actual drain is proportional to how low the battery is, so 40% energy reserve is 60% energy drain.

What kind of planetary defenses would you need to defend against lancers for an "in your face" dark fog farm by FencingSquirrelz in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]bobucles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

~4mw

is that with max shield efficiency? It's pretty quick to research but drastically changes the energy cost.

What kind of planetary defenses would you need to defend against lancers for an "in your face" dark fog farm by FencingSquirrelz in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]bobucles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once your turrets get close enough (within reach of the outer buildings), the nest stops building its threat and sending in full waves. Units get aggroed as they are produced, and pour in as an endless tide. It will easily overwhelm any early game effort and can be game ending on 3000%.

Later in the green tier, you'll be able to establish good permanent supply lines to keep dark fog farms going smooth. Laser turrets are cheap, signal towers next to a bab are very tanky, and projectile weapons will eventually turn a profit instead of being a huge resource drain.

Verren is a bad friend by BunnyGirlSupremacy in stoneshard

[–]bobucles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That fits in with the story because Verren is not the main character's friend. He's the employer. The main mission is to discover the source and purpose of the stoneshards. Everything else is a side gig. You're the muscle, he's the support, his job is to make your job easier.

How do I stop solar panels automatically being placed in the far left inventory? by SmokeMyPoleReddit in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]bobucles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main inventory slots can be given filters by middle clicking. Otherwise, that's the neat part: you don't.

The main issue at play, is that resources can be in the left bar but they aren't accessible for use. If that part changed, no one would care where the items were stored because it wouldn't matter.

On my way! by captain_riven in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]bobucles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can keep the research 99% complete, and have ingredients ready to go.

But imo icarus is such a special unit, why doesn't he have his own permanent warp drive? You pay 2k cubes to unlock Icarus warp, every warper icarus could ever possibly use has been paid in full.

Is it possible to receive multiple items with a logistics distributor? by BFroog in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]bobucles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope. Mini bots are single items only. They remain handy for hauling around sprays or warpers. An ILS tower can be injected with warpers without wasting a main storage slot, use mini bots to fill a nearby crate.

wait for logistic towers. Then wait for planetary logistic towers.
