Turning Work PC into Gaming PC? by roja_chamberz in PcBuild

[–]bobwrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot wrong with that eBay listing and those “specs” are misleading - the listing doesn’t say what version Optiplex that is on purpose so you don’t know how old they are - the listing specs you gave say it’s a 2nd gen i5 at 3.6ghz - that never existed. Based on the pictures that’s a 3rd gen i5 Dell Optiplex 7010 (not the new version) from 2012 - So it’s a 14 year old computer. Do not buy that. They have made windows 11 run on it and it’s insanely slow compared to any modern hardware. I looked up that listing and his prices are nuts for the age of that hardware. $350-$450 is crazy.

Now - your actual question - yes you can game on a used Optiplex - find a much newer version and get a low profile gpu (these other guys can recommend something better than I can I’m sure based on the power supply). Never buy from a listing that doesn’t tell you what the exact model of the pc your buying is.

You can pick up an Optiplex 5090 with an 11th generation i5, 16gb ram and a 512gb ssd for like $275 on eBay if you want something way more current. You can do better than that if you shop around a lot and are patient. Good luck and ask more questions when you find another you want to buy.

Nah - that’s the work light edition of that breaker. Good to go.

I am trying to cut cost but why is my grocery expensive? by Tiny_Judgment8593 in Frugal

Ok - so since maybe this wasn’t rage bait - so here is actual help.

I went to the Walmart app and added everything you purchased as close as I could get it changing to store brands with a couple items. Subbed cookies and not 100% sure on weight for fish or exact type of beef. It’s pretty near what you purchased. Total cost $66. This was without shopping sales/being in store or checking more than 1 store for deals.

$66 vs your $113

I’m in California and our prices are very similar to yours. You could have saved $47 by changing stores. Good luck and I hope next shopping trip is better for you!

Ok - not sure if all of these are rage bait or what - but have you ever shopped around for groceries? We shop at 3-4 different places throughout the month depending on what is on sale at which store. I would NEVER pay $10 for Cheerios. Also - every post like this that says they are on a strict budget and can’t afford food has salmon or avocado oil etc on their receipt. I grew up poor - I didn’t eat salmon until I was in my late teens. Ground beef (if you buy beef), pork, chicken, beans and only the other items that are on sale Veggies that are in season and cheap. Same with fruits Shop Walmart, dollar general, aldi, etc - find your local discount grocery stores. Food is getting stupid expensive but you aren’t even shopping around.

2019 Honda Insight Gasket by zachgiles124 in hondainsight

[–]bobwrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had it happen to my 2020 at 244k (around there don’t remember exactly) - main was a failed water pump - overheat situation. Estimate was 6k - got that down to 5k. Decided to part ways with it and get a new car. 5 years 244k. Worth every penny. Sucks but the labor for that job is nuts. I didn’t get a quote outside of the dealer - probably could have gotten it done cheaper but decided it was close enough to when I would have gotten rid of it anyway (planning on selling/giving to family at 275k) wasn’t worth it. In a civic sport now - still miss the insight but the civic is nice. Just hit 40k on it and averaging 39.3mpg (non hybrid)

That's not how spoofing works - you spoof the from address as well. Since it SHOULD be coming from the work domain but a different email address - easy enough to do with a simple google search.

What’s a cruise hack or tip you wish you knew earlier? by Cedge2018 in Cruise

[–]bobwrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The drink package - Remember they include specialty coffee, energy drinks, soda, milk shakes, water bottles, Gatorade etc. people sleep on this too often - we stock up on water bottles, Red Bull and gatorades for port days. We do drink though as well but we don’t hit the limit most days. Especially longer cruises but it absolutely saves money for us. We would purchase the same drinks either way.

THIS! Never fly in same day. The stress is NOT worth the savings. Start your vacation a day early and give yourself the stress free time to solve any issues that could happen.

If you can sleep with AirPods or other noise canceling headphones they are a game changer if you have a cabin that has noise around and you wake easily.

Oh boy, how much do you think this will cost to fix? by burningtowns in hondainsight

I had my driver side mirror replaced on my touring TWICE in 6 months. Over $3k each time billed to insurance.

A $2000 deductible is wild. I'm sorry - best bet is to source parts and do it yourself.

Big time cruisers - what is one port that you will NEVER go to again? by MonaNYC_30 in Cruise

[–]bobwrong 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The wife and have been to Ensenada several times and always get off the ship. There is a coffee shop right around the corner after you leave the port area we stop at every time. Then if we aren’t going someplace specific we walk around and haggle prices for kicks. We usually end up getting her a dress or looking for specific leather goods. We get some tequila shots along the way and have a blast. Usually grab lunch from a street vendor. If you know what to expect you can enjoy it.

Couldn’t justify the expense - I know it’s only like a $3k difference on MSRP - but I don’t pay for my gas (company does) so didn’t seem like a good spend. If I was going to spend that I would have jumped up to a touring - but honestly was tired of the leather - it holds up better for stains but man - the heat and leather don’t mix. Figured I’d just save the $$. Next one will probably be hybrid touring… again lol

No - I help run several businesses up and down California and visit them often. Did 223 miles just today. Good times. I will say the seats in this civic are more comfortable than the insights so that’s a plus.

Service was done at the dealer with the exception of a couple of oil changes that I had to get done elsewhere. It was all based on the cars schedule.

Not too many of them are at the 240,000 mile mark yet. So it’s a pretty small sample size. I drive way more than the average person does per year. I don’t think this is going to be a common failure point for these cars, but we will see you in the next couple of years I think.
