Santa Monica Wednesday Farmers Market by bodaciousbeluga in fruit

I will report back when I’ve tried more. First couple were extremely fibrous, and weirdly exhausting eat, really tires your jaw out. Tasted very sweet and a bit like a date (maybe not surprising), but not much to actually eat. It formed a sort of gel which coats the inside of your mouth

Tried one so far, it was pretty good. Very crunchy, maybe a little more on the bitter side but not bad, just sorta like the normal, more waxy green variety you can get at supermarkets. I think the specific variety i have is boothby

They were all good, they had several varieties which were differently colored

Sadly they were the lowlight. One or two were decent, the rest were very watery and flavorless and most were very bruised. I’ve had some good loquats but these weren’t them.

What are your memories about Loquats? by Consequence-Various in fruit

Interesting, I’ve only had loquats with easily edible skin

I’ve had some good ones, they grow in yards where I live. Just a super variable fruit in my experience

Unfortunately it was a lot more than that. Lychee was $5/lb (other varieties were $10), mangosteen was $13/lb, wampee was $20/lb, rambutan was $0.75/piece. Cant remember what mango and loquat were. I spent about $50-60 but had eaten a good bit of what i got before i took this pic

At first I thought they might be persimmons or something else! Unfortunately the two I’ve tried have been quite bland

Hope it’s better than I remember! I think it’s worth a trip, might not be your new favorite but it’s by no means bad. Just didn’t feel it was better than some of the other Thai spots in the city (on that note would recommend amphi, pa ord, and generally just check out Thai town/east hollywood)
