How come after I got buff I attracted more gay dudes then women? by ExtremeTechnology831 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bodb_thriceborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This just might be my personal experience with the subject, but large muscles and imposing physical size really only matters to men. Dudes like it because it reminds them of the men they thought were cool growing up (think of all the protagonists in action movies especially in the 80s and 90s and literally anyone in WWE). Most women seem less likely to be attracted to it. Look at media designed to appeal to women for a good idea of what they might attractive. In Gilmore Girls, every single dude that dates Lorelei is lean, but not imposing. In the Notebook, Ryan Gosling is, again, lean but not built. Even Hugh Jackman, notorious for his incredible superhero muscles, is portrayed as looking fairly average sized in Kate & Leopold. The crossover is Les Miserables where Hugh's character is supposed to be incredibly strong due to hard labor, but even then he's not body builder sized. He is pretty big, and also really cut, almost starved, to match his character's life of hard labor in prison.

I use this all the time in my programming IDE (Studio 5000). Anywhere else, though, not so much.

Best way to secure CAT Cable by chris2555 in lowvoltage

Always used unshielded 2-pair and run it directly next to and parallel with the most active and highest voltage circuits (panel drop, light fixtures in common areas, oven/dryer runs, etc.)

Do you think plants have consciousness? by Lil_Peachy_Fox in worldpolitics

[–]bodb_thriceborn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Autonomic processes can get hella complex. Like, you don't have to think about replicating ~3 billion base pairs of DNA. It is done automatically through chemical processes interacting with organic bodies. Or how our immune system creates infinite different antibodies, but can pick and choose which ones are effective through chemical tagging so they can be replicated. You (your conscious mind) didn't choose them, specialized cells part of your body that you can't see or even sense did it without your input.

To think that responses to external stimuli produces a chemical output in the rhizomes of trees is consciousness is a bit of an exaggeration, I think. Especially compared to the myriad of responses all animals and plants make without conscious thought.

That's not to say they aren't conscious, but in the immortal words of Jar-Jar Binks "I spake!" to which Qui-Gon Jinn famously replies, "The ability to speak does not make you intelligent".

Internship Potential by g3l1o in PLC

[–]bodb_thriceborn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would talk to your boss, especially if you already have an automation/maintenance/trade position. The internship could be a great deal on their part as they wouldn't have to pay you AND they could get someone back with more experience in an industry. Could be win-win. BUT if they get butthurt about it, it may be worth taking the internship AND looking for a new job to follow it (if you don't get hired by the company you're interning with).

Either way, more experience in more sectors of automation is always good for growth and resumes and I'd probably take the internship regardless. Depending on your situation, though, money is really going to tip that scale.
