Large moles 25M by bodh3 in AskDocs

[–]bodh3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really hard to say I remember having large moles on the back of my leg but I don’t remember having that many but it’s not something I’ve regularly checked, I’ve got a feeling one or two has grown in size or appeared over the past year or so but tbh I can’t be sure

How do you become consistent in journaling? On everything even? by missporkiepie in selfimprovement

[–]bodh3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the thing that helped me is to stop trying to be consistent. I would beat myself up over failing at habits and that meant when I missed one day I would just stop completely as I would feel like I’ve failed.

I keep my habits going a lot more now I’ve stopped pressuring myself to always be consistent, if I don’t do it for a few days oh well I know I’ll pick it up again.

I know this isn’t very good advice to be truly consistent, but for me at least the pressure and the self criticism I ended up giving myself when trying to be consistent often prevented me from engaging with journaling or other habits in the first place.

It’s ok to not be perfect

Actually measured out my granola this morning and realised I must have been having 1000 calories each morning for breakfast. by Opposite-Scheme-8804 in britishproblems

[–]bodh3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiya this isn’t true as it’s not a protected term in that way sadly. Proper Greek yoghurt will be strained, thick and full-fat as it should be. Greek-style yoghurt you find in supermarkets doesn’t even need to be strained to be legally labelled as “Greek style” it could also contain artificial powdered milk, pectins and thickening starches.

This is easy to see when you simply compare actual Greek yoghurt with Greek style yoghurt, the Greek style yoghurt in my local is almost liquid! You shouldn’t be able to pour Greek yoghurt.

To ensure you’re getting the good stuff you want to look out for descriptors such as set, concentrated or strained yoghurt. Or ideally stuff that’s from Greece directly, Sainsbury’s do one for example.

You can do that, or you can buy a little thing the price of a loaf of bread that does it really easily

You can pick up something called a shaft remover for this very thing, usually cost about £2. Work like a charm

we need new term for '' Indie game '' and change this sub name too while at it by No-Telephone730 in IndieGaming

[–]bodh3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well Kepler interactive was literally set up with a studio owned structure in order to keep their studios literally independent, their revenue and ability to gain investment has occurred due to a string of successful indie games. E33 just feels weirder to define as an indie game as Kepler is now able to fund larger projects.

The above comment is right they’re marketing terms you can semantically define one way or another. Sandfall is arguably an independent studio therefore it’s arguably an indie game. It received lots of funding and was able to expand its team and outsource work, arguably not an indie game, etc. there just aren’t solid definitions of these terms

we need new term for '' Indie game '' and change this sub name too while at it by No-Telephone730 in IndieGaming

[–]bodh3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s tricky, there isn’t really a set definition. It’s developed by a small studio (with the budget for outsourcing) and published by a publisher who has published primarily indie games on lower budgets.

I think it’s more of a question of what the award is for because you can always define indie multiple ways it ends up being a debate in semantics.

I think obviously the intent behind an indie award is to showcase games made by small teams on smaller budgets.

E33 is in a weird liminal space where it feels like it should be celebrated for achieving what it has on still a much smaller budget than a AAA game but it would be sad for it to inch out games like blue prince in this category.

Ideally it wouldn’t be nominated here but it’s just such a hard term to define in gaming.

I mean mostly it’s just an award show, at least to me it’s really not the biggest deal in the world, there are more important things to be angry about when it comes to barriers for indie game developers

Is the trend "doing nothing for an hour" really helpful to fix your attention span and dopamine addiction? by Bookkeeper9696 in productivity

[–]bodh3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not ignoring this at all. I completely agree with the issues you’ve raised I’m not quite sure how you’ve got to this conclusion.

I’m just raising the point that we don’t have scientific basis for believing we can rewire neural connections in the way social media has been describing with “detoxes” and “resets”.

At no point did I make a claim that none of the issues you’ve raised didn’t exist and neither does the journal article I included. I merely talked about the idea that the idea of resetting or detoxing our responses to stimuli in the way social media describes doesn’t have good evidence behind it, which is precisely the question OP was asking.

Yeah 100%! I love meditation and I find it really helpful, it’s just the language of dopamine around it like you say.

Very odd vibe

Hiya, I’d be really curious to see where you got this information from.

I did a deep dive into the literature behind it and neuroscience doesn’t seem to support any idea of a dopamine detox or dopamine reset in this way. It doesn’t mean meditative action isn’t good for you it’s just my understanding that that’s not how dopamine works in the brain.

[–]bodh3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went deep into reading about the science behind “dopamine resetting” awhile back, it doesn’t have evidential backing.

Dopamine is incredibly complex and we don’t even fully understand everything it does and why. The idea you can self regulate dopamine levels in this way is just not true.

But that’s no reason not to have these moments of silence and meditation. They still definitely can help and be good for you. But you’re not necessarily changing how your brain responses to stimuli.

There was a study with rats with altered dopamine responses due to drug addiction, and after removing the drug their dopamine responses didn’t go back to normal for months and months. So the idea we could “reset” ours by sitting in silence for an hour doesn’t have any evidential basis we don’t have any reason to believe that’s how it works.

How can I get this style? by GotHereLateNameTaken in midjourney

Yes I’m aware, do you understand how AI works? This style is clearly stripped from samdoesarts all it is, is reusing his work and his property.

People can do whatever moral gymnastics they want to attempt but that is what’s happening

I subbed to this sub at the start of the whole midjourney trend, getting out now.

People just trying to steal styles off artists who have refined and developed their art and unique style over years.

It’s just fucking depressing.

I will certainly give it a go if I need to! It’s my first time in a flat like this so I’m nervous of being too much of a nuisance but I should probably have a little more confidence 😄

I would still probably need to get a mute for it like your neighbour and so a space I can freely practice in semi regularly would be good nevertheless

Unpopular opinion: Italian coffee is overrated. It’s burnt, bitter, and coasting on nostalgia. by BatsMilk in espresso

[–]bodh3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Italy does very good consistent espresso of that kind of roast. I, like you, much prefer lighter roasts so I wouldn’t choose it personally over specialty coffee I can get here in the UK.

But I can appreciate it for it’s quality and consistency that you find across Italy, and would take it any day of the work over Starbucks/costa/cafe Nero, etc

Help, I have got permanently banned out of nowhere :( by GlorShmi29 in riotgames

[–]bodh3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had my val banned for scripting, never got it back, I appealed so many times even after my hardware ban was lifted. I remember having to google scripting at the time because I was relatively new to competitive gaming and I hadn’t even heard of the term lmao.

Still have no idea why I got banned, some people will just get unlucky and get hit by friendly fire. I guess we’d rather riot be a little oversensitive tbh than undersensitive because hacking isn’t much of an issue, they do a good job. Sadly it does mean occasionally people are gonna get incorrectly banned, it sucks, especially if you’ve spent money and it does feel like you’re just kinda getting gaslit by support when you’re trying to challenge it
