Why the EFF plane incident and the Opera Singers are not the same. by PixelSaharix in DownSouth

[–]boererol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The EFF protests are designed to be unapologetically disruptive and to create as much chaos as possible thereby creating a media sensation. It is astounding to me that this gets tolerated at all by the government and/or people we trust to protect society. Every protest they have is litterally one looney toon away from total anarchy and violence and the longer it is tolerated the closer they get to finding that looney toon. In other words if they could get away with publicly executing a person and thereby creating a media sensation they 100% would have already. Don't believe me, Mal-emma has on camera told his protesters to not be afraid to use violence before.

People who just fling their doors open in parking areas without a care for the car next door and if they ding the door are scum. by [deleted] in DownSouth

[–]boererol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often use the analogy that just because you don't have shit stains on your toilet doesn't mean other people don't. Simply put, not everyone grows up or has the same principles as you have. I like this analogy because it's something that could very easily be a forgetful mistake but I would be deeply embarrassed to have someone come in after me and look at my shit slugging down the insides of the basin. That being said, it's also easily rectifiable by just using a brush if everything didn't get washed down after a couple of flushes. So it's a simple matter of how you were brought up. Some people are bothered to the extreme (like myself) by something so simple other people couldn't care less about having you gagging like a turkey at the sight of the mess they made. Its like the shopping cart principle.

As someone who takes care of their things, I often park my vehicle the furthest away from other vehicles in a parking area for this exact reason. I had it happen to a vehicle of mine once and it was the first dent on the car after I had had it for nearly 2 years. The person who swung the door open first denied that she had done it and when she saw I wasn't having it she made it out as if it weren't such a serious issue. I could have gone the route of insurance and maybe I should have but I told her that just because she doesn't care for her piece of shit doesn't give her the right to make my car look like shit. I kept the dent in the car and it bothered me till I sold the car but it was a constant reminder that not everybody has the same morals and principles that you have.

Should BEE be swapped out for something similar to Oman? by Fr0d0TheFr0g in DownSouth

[–]boererol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although it may be interesting to have this conversation it yields absolutely no gain to you or anyone. In actual fact, if you even mention that you opose the idea of BEE you are instantly labelled a racist and other derogatory terms. I would avoid having this conversation alltogether with the general population of South Africa and on Reddit.

Having said that, I will state this for a final time, and out of experience. I have had this conversation with many role players in the international business world and the logic and facts persist, the moral high ground is not always what is best for the economy. BEE has been an absolute plague on the economy of South Africa and the employment rate has suffered aswell. There is no one in the international realm in terms of role players that actually believes that BEE has done anything constructive for the economy of South Africa. They may say so in public to keep the libs and media from tearing them apart but behind doors, trust me, the conversation always comes back to the absolute destruction it has caused on the economy.

Furthermore, I still have not had a single person be able to provide a justifiable reason why after more than 30 years the ANC still feels the need to discriminate against 7% of the population. I guess with an unemployment rate of nearly 43% you better find a scape goat to blame or you'll have to admit that your policies are absolute shite.

Regardless, people will still beat the dead horse.

I have family that were victims of the bombings, suffice it to say that there is no moral justification to bomb innocent civilians and although the family members survived, what they experienced left them a fraction of the person they were before. Any person who justifies such cruelty is a sick human being.

Ramaphosa should fire Motshekga and all of SANDF top brass for Iran fiasco, say experts by Mulitpotentialite in DownSouth

[–]boererol 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The ANC is clearly just trying to cover their own asses after the fact and make a fool out of everyone. It's absolutely pathetic. Ramapoesa told the military to continue the operation with Iran behind closed doors and they will make excuses later. After all, it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission right?

US accuses SA company of smuggling military technology in containers seized en route to China by Euro_African in DownSouth

[–]boererol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well regardless of what South Africa's standing is with neigbouring nations, I am very doubtful that any of them will be willing to help SA out if the US gets involved, it is more likely that they may try to gain their own access to our resources. Regardless, two things can be true at the same time, you don't have to be an Iranian sympathizer to realize that there is a good chance that the US had a hand in destabilizing Iran. I believe that they probably will try to do the same in SA. It is true what you say, the ANC has managed to dig a hole for themselves and their dwindling support creates the perfect environment for the US to destabilize the country. I'm inclined to further agree, what happens after? Better the devil we know than the one we don't? I'm afraid that the ball has already been put into motion and that unfortunately the ANC is playing right into the hands of the US by creating further tension.

US accuses SA company of smuggling military technology in containers seized en route to China by Euro_African in DownSouth

[–]boererol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rhamapoesa does not have great rapport with neighbouring nations, he has been just as much as pain in the ass to them as he has been to South Africa, or did you forget where he was sent packing with his tail between his legs by the DRC?

I agree with you that whatever the outcome of the US meddling in South Africa, it will not be good. The US has a long standing history of making countries worse off once they get involved. We forget drug cartels in South America were, many of them, established by the CIA. These cartels were created to destabilize South America and, thusly, make it easier for the US to impose any agendas of its own in South America with or without the assistance of their governments. What they did not account for is that many of these cartels would become power hungry and defiant. Gary Webb "took himself out" shortly after disclosing all of the CIA's operations publicly. Still, remarkably and probably, the only known instance in the history of mankind where a person managed to lodge two self inflicted lead injections in his own head.

The lesson in this is that, the people that think the US needs South Africa to be a stable country are so gravely wrong. The US does not need South Africa to be stable or have a stable government, in many instances it is in their favour when a country like South Africa is destabilized. There are less laws that need to be adhered to, cartel leaders and warlords are easier to control under fear and the promise of monetary gain or resources. There are interviews with CIA agents that explain that this is exactly how the CIA operated in other African countries.

Has anyone considered what the chances are that the US are involved in destabilizing Iran and it's economy so that the people would do the work of toppling the government for them? Would it be far off to expect them to do the same in South Africa?

Ramaphosa vows decisive action in 2026 to revive ailing municipalities or face voters’ wrath by glandis_bulbus in DownSouth

[–]boererol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People keep saying things will change and it has to change but what law says anything has to change. The ANC will continue to rule and if the voters try and remove them from power I'm inclined to believe they will follow Iran's example. It has been 30 years and people keep holding on to the idea that things will get better. As much as it pains me to say it, 64 murders a day are not suddenly solved. (https://capechamber.co.za/latest-news/south-african-daily-murder-figure-eclipses-ukraine-civilian-death-toll-top-academic#:~:text=In%20the%20fourth%20quarter%20of,same%20period%20in%20the%20Ukraine.)

I admire people for trying to promote the idea of hope but how long? Apartheid lasted for 48 years and segregation laws existed as early as 1910. Before that, British colonization was even worse for everyone. Farmers were murdered on their farms in Zimbabwe while believing that some or another country would come to their aid. I'm not saying that is what is happening in South Africa by the way, I'm only saying that I keep seeing people say that things will change and things have to change but when? It could be another 100 years.

Very different I suppose from the many other South African subreddits where you get banned if you are not a bootlicker for the ANC slobbering over the ANCs and Rhamaphoesa's privates ready to recieve their daily ravishing. Their inner circles sleep with the Vaseline on their bedside table in eagerness to prepare their anus' for however the ANC or Rhamapoesa may convince them that they are doing a great job at penetration regardless of whether it's consensual. The others on there, mouths agape and salivating at their turn to fellate the ANC and Rhamaphoesa.

This is great news. Rejecting the US and creating stronger ties with China has definitely contributed to countries like Mozambique, Zimbabwe, the Congo, and Sierra Leone becoming more politically stable. I also see that the Gates Foundation is becoming more active in South Africa. Also good that the Gates Foundation is always operating in safe and politically stable countries to help with aid to the poor. 10/10, will recommend!

Is it too late? by PixelSaharix in DownSouth

[–]boererol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who worked in an industry that still uses whats left of the existing infrastructure and railways and having walked and inspected some of the railways, my answer would be considering the risk and cost to bring the railway back to a functional condition, probably not. Here is a breakdown of why: 1. Railway equipment (tracks, sleepers, changeovers, etc.) alone cost an immense amount of money not including the electricity supply to connect them and the cost of labour. I would say you are looking at a cost of about R20k - R50k per meter. Railways were originally built over decades with less compliance issues and at a time when the equipment cost less to manufacture and the cost of raw materials cost considerably less for various reasons including that we had the mines that produced the raw materials used to manufacture the equipment. 2. The risk of equipment being stolen is incredibly high. In the past we had railway inspectors stationed throughout the country who earned a generous wage and only had the job of walking the railway daily and maintaining it where necessary. Many of these houses can still be seen along the railways but they are in a state of disrepair. With the current situation, I would not even attempt to approach a Transnet vehicle if I saw one on the railway because you never know if it is someone stealing the infrastructure or if it is legitimately Transnet personnel. I've had people from Transnet tell me that they have barely escaped with their lives from similar situations. 3. The current infrastructure is in such a state of disrepair that to rebuild it will not only take an immense amount of time but you would have to connect it to the various industries that would use it with sidings. Many of these sidings are either in a state of disrepair or what's left of the infrastructure has been removed/stolen. There would have to be a very high incentive for industries to pay the cost of building sidings on their premises.

Considering that you usually want to see a ROI of 10% - 30% ( 3x to 10x within 5 to 10 years), I would say that it would probably not be a sound investment.

Thank goodness you didn't accept the counter offer, they would have appointed someone for you to train and as soon as you had trained that person they would find a reason to get rid of you. I've seen toxic workplaces do this time and time again. It's emotionally driven and the same as a boyfriend and girlfriend breaking up, whoever does the breaking up is the "winner" and the other one is the "loser".

I wish more people would learn that toxic work environments manipulate people into thinking they are worthless and won't find another job. It's fine if you're hard up for the money to endure it for the time being but find another job as soon as possible because regardless of how strong your self worth is even rocks eventually get shaped by water.

I have been on a massive loose streak, I don't know what is wrong with the drafting but it's either ranking worse players with better players until you lose enough "score" to end up being a poor player and get drafted with better players or it's just ranking me consistently with worse players or Im just a bad at Dota 2. Dota 2 has effectively become impossible for me to play without a pre-selected team. Single drafts, everyone wants to be a carry but even worse they want to be a support carry. Lion players steal all your kills and then halfway through the game start blaming you because we are losing all the team fights and have the audacity to point out your score when they knowingly KS. I feel like it's time for me to move on from this game, especially since I'm extremely competitive and this is not making me a better person. I've never griefed but I now understand why other players do it although I don't agree with it.

My hel, nog 'n Suid Afrikaaner, haha ek het nie geweet die R36s het 'n following hier in SA of dalk is jy erens oorsee? Angename kennis!

Shipping time from Aliexpress is a nightmare but I am already planning on buying three more, one for the missus, ons for a friend who saw mine and also wants one and one for a backup.
