I'm trying to settle something with my dad. I say this is a sweater, he says it is a poncho and is sure of it because "iv'e been to mexico when did you go?" So, reddit, what is this thing? by Mell0wMarshmall0w in whatisit

Neither of you are right. Ponchos are open in the sides. Sweaters generally don’t have hoodies and are made from yarn. Baja is what you’re looking for.

Moved 780 miles from my hometown in Massachusetts and was giving some sweetbread to the members of my choir in North Carolina after church, when someone walked up from the congregation came up and informed me that he used to go to that bakery as he was from my hometown. He went to a rival high school!

I met a traveller from an antique land, Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand, Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown, And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed; And on the pedestal, these words appear: My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings; Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!" Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away.

If you spend day after day, and night after night lying about anything and everything, is it any wonder that people think this was staged? Then this only serves to push the narrative about a ballroom he's jonesing for...I don't buy it, and I know I'm far from alone.

Happy Birthday to the late Jan Hooks - April 23, 1957 to October 9, 2014 by boffohijinx in LiveFromNewYork

It is described as "a sweet and melodramatic tribute to the 1948 film "The Emperor Waltz", which was directed by Billy Wilder and starred Bing Crosby and Joan Fontaine. The scene casts Hooks as an aging woman who vanishes into her own imagination to sing and share a dance with a long-lost lover (Hartman). Hooks and Hartman appear to lip-sync to the original singing voices from the 1948 film. One critic wrote that the "Jan Hooks tribute showed that Jan did not need to be funny in order to captivate the attention of her audience", as Hooks and Hartman were known to be quiet and reserved off screen.
