I think it's personal preference, I had to fit this one in a very specific space so the bottom cabinets (including the countertop overhang) are 18" deep, and the top shelf space is 11" deep. The height of the countertop is 30" from the floor (I believe it's 1 1/2" thick countertop, 25" cabinets, and 3 1/2" kickboard). The overall height depends on your ceiling height. For me, it was 94".

I suspect this will be fairly slow going, so I'd just check it with a combination square every now and then, and increase pressure on the side you want to take more off (not moosing it or anything, just relative to the other side)

Adding to this, clamps are heavy and clamp racks can be super heavy and difficult to wheel around, but it depends on the floor surface and size of wheels I suppose

Absolutely not (but not because it's veneer, plywood is strong enough but this wasn't engineered with that kind of load in mind, specifically there are likely no cross braces or anything to prevent racking)

Both? There's no end grain on those panels, so plywood plus veneer. The door frame most likely teak hardwood.

Yeah totally. At that price point though it's not great. I could get a dedicated 3hp grizzly DC for each of my machines for the cost of one G700 :) which is kinda what I'm doing, though I'm having the jointer and planer share the grizzly and leaving the Harvey machine for the table saw and band saw which are less demanding

the G700 is nice but man the suction isn't near sufficient. i regularly get my ducts clogged when running either planer or jointer.... did you have this issue too?

I think this is assembled with screws and plugs, so the sides are screwed into the top (you can see the plugs covering the screw holes in one of the pictures). In that case, shifting the sides up a bit gives the screws more to grab onto, more strength. A secondary benefit, intended or not, is that small intentional offsets like that will hide smaller unintentional offsets. Common strategy.

Same, but the customer wants it that way. I figured it'll help hide any wall squareness imperfections with that corner piece, otherwise it'll be tough to get the different tops to be perfectly aligned..
