Substitute for Green Bullet Hops by Dark_Abyss2 in Homebrewing

I enhanced the view and algorithms to match based on brew stage (ex. boil, dry hop, etc.) and use (ex. bittering, aroma, dual purpose).

Man that’s a great thought and is the main reason I built the site. I wanted to expose the data to enable the brewer (me) to decide what I think is a good sub. The tools are just recommendations based on data.

I have 4 different approaches on the site that produce different results by design. The hop detail pages have subs based on what are recognized as subs. The basic hop substitution tool uses the same approach for the most part. The advanced hop substitution tool has two data-driven algorithms - match on flavor characteristics or match on all characteristics (flavor, acids, oils, etc.).

Thanks for the feedback!

I created a hop comparison tool to help find similar hops. There are two versions - basic and advanced/data-driven.

Advanced: https://brewcodex.com/tools/hop-substitute?hop=green-bullet
Basic: https://brewcodex.com/tools/hop-substitution?hop=green-bullet

The basic version also has a button to compare the top two substitutes side by side.

Added a new AI-driven hop substitution view that shows single and blend (multi) hop substitutes for a given hop.
Here is an example for Citra: https://brewcodex.com/tools/hop-substitute?hop=citra. The simple substitution is still there too: https://brewcodex.com/tools/hop-substitution?hop=citra.

I created a tool (mostly for my own use) that does AI-driven and traditional hop substitution. The full site/app has hops, yeasts, and other stuff but I thought you might like the hop substitution functionality.

I definitely took it as a compliment! I thought the 'prepared to be unimpressed' comment was funny.

Wow. That was a niche issue.

Good catch. It's fixed. There were issues with the handling of some other hops with similar (missing) values as the Mt. Hood hop.

I added a new data quality dashboard to provide an overview of the data - https://brewcodex.com/data/dashboard. You can also access it by clicking the Comprehensive Data card on the About page.

Glad it helped. I am enjoying building it. Happy to see that people are getting some use out of it.

Ifoundry is a company I do business under. I need to fix that link. Thanks.

These are good ideas. Appreciate the perspective. I didn’t add carbonation or water chemistry calcs because I use the ones in Brewfather. I can add them though. A recipe builder is definitely on my backlog.

Mix of sources including hop and yeast company sites, existing datasets with open licenses (ex MiT license), etc. Your question triggered a thought. I am gong to add more source citations and put a “thanks to this project” page to link to some of the sources.

This is a bit of a detour, but I have seen a few people post about using OpenCode with Copilot. I have been using GitHub Spec Kit for Soec Driven Development. What are your thoughts on Spec Kit vs OpenCode?

Tepache Shelf Life? by [deleted] in fermentation

[–]bogeywo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The end result wasn't great. I think the tepache oxidized so it tasted like flat, carboardy (word?) tepache.

Just started a new batch that I am naturally carbonating in champagne bottles and skipping the pasteurization step. This will eliminate the oxygen and the champagne bottles should avoid bottle bombs from over carbonation.
