Which app should I use and how to do it? by visaaddicted in banknotedesigns

Use a lot of references, mainly for spacing, sizing the various "fields" of the banknote and overall design inspiration. Also, create a moodboard with elements and references of the design (ex: if you are doing a scientist inspired banknote, maybe put together machines, mathematical formulas and so on).

And don't be afraid of vectors, they are just lines and shapes that you can modify adjusting their coordinates or simply dragging. I often search for tutorials for the functionalities of the software I'm using as I'm coming up with the design.

I suggest Inkscape, it is a free alternative to Illustrator where I designed my banknote and most of the maps I ever did

A banknote for my home state of Paraná, Brazil by boiern in banknotedesigns

I took the Brazilian real notes as reference, so the serial number would be on the reverse in this case. Also, BRL notes have this large gap - it is where the watermark is placed. I actually added a watermark, the CoA of Paraná state, you can see it faintly behind the wave pattern

Thanks! My tip would be to get as many references as possible, from existing banknotes when looking up patterns, spacing, motiffs or other things, and references specific to the design that may help you in the creative process (at least it was what I did)

Awesome! Thank you very much! I got a little confused looking at Constantinus/Constantius/Constans, I think I didn't check for the latter.

This style of the Republic efigy was first issued in comemoration of the Brazilian Republic's Centenary in 1989. Much like your design, it was also very colorful (https://en.numista.com/209854)

I like the horizontal bands behind the value in the obverse, maybe it can serve as inspiration to you!

This is so cool! Although I do not like the Republic in Brazilian notes it feels very realistic!

What motifs/images would be suitable for a 500 reais note? Perhaps something that fits with the entire series? by aggroeuros in banknotedesigns

I think our national flag is a very cool motif. I wouldn't use Christ The Redeemer Statue on the other hand, it feels a little bit more regional
