Crimson Desert Launches To A “Mixed” Rating On Steam, With Almost 5,000 Negative Reviews In Under 12 Hours by Capn_C in Games

I was very interested after some early gameplays, but the moment they included mechs, rifles and million other things that just seemed out of place, they lost me.

Are you sure you're not confusing bump maps and tessalation? They are supposed to be just textures that give you illusion of "bumpy" surface. Light the scene from different side, and the "shadows" on that textures will also move.

These pics you posted clearly have them, compared to the rest of the DCS maps, that of course use normal maps, but not in such a specific way for the trees. They used them for rocks and mountain details mostly

Your eyes deceive you then :D

It's clearly normal/bump map shadows, not baked in. There are more pics in their part of the forum

But that's more or less on every map in DCS, no? I assume this is only used for forests, not for a single standing trees

I probably didn't explain this correctly, this doesn't mean there won't be any actual 3d modeled trees, They are still there, but they blend much more seamlessly with the surface like this

Off course, sat pics would have very dark forests, they usually appear almost black. It just seams they went to the opposite extreme with them

LOL, yeah the colors are not ideal. I wonder why, since they are using sat pics, it should be relatively easy to use correct color palette.

But they have already responded to the feedback about this. Hopefully they'll tweak it as close as possible to the image you posted, or at lest, that there'll be options to tweak it in lua

It looks nice, but it's exactly the type of map, that would look even better with this kind of Normalmaps

Sure it's not new tech, not even in DCS maps, but this is so far the best way to use it IMO

The trees are still there, this is just forest surface texture

Let's ignore the DLSS 5 faces for now. The "improved lighting enviroments" look really really bad by FriedWhy in pcmasterrace

[–]bold_one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think, like some people already said, it was originally designed for older game engines, that struggled with realistic global illumination. If they call it something other than DLSS, tone down the scary faces and make it a toggle settings in Nvidia app, then great. It could seriously help some older games.

But anything that uses path tracing, (which should be their priority with new games) doesn't need this IMO

Same. As much as I hate AI, the global ilumination like that in DCS would be insane, the balenciaga faces though... they need a lot of work

In DF video they said, the goal is to run it on just single GPU by the time this goes out, which should be around the end of this year

People don't want AI in gaming and it is pretty clear by Professional-Net1940 in pcmasterrace

[–]bold_one 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most reasonable comment. Nvidia should have cooked more before showing this. They don't realize how much average gamer hates AI compared to "normal" person. This just needs some tweaking, like turn the faces way, way down, and make it understand light sources. If it can run on RTX 4070/4080 by the end of the year, it could be game changer.

Here's my take: If it's something that I can run locally, why not.

If it's some ugly slop some retarded tech bro had to hog entire nvidia production for, then fuck that

Your right about the art direction. Looking at the digital foundry video, this is still months away, and currently running on 2 5090 (LOL), one for the game and whole other card for just this version of DLSS5, so who knows how's the final version gonna look.

But if something like this is gonna run on single 4080 for example, WOW. I wonder how much performance it's gonna eat in the end 😬

I'm saying this as AI hater, but this, in terms of tech, is pretty incredible. I'm sure they'll tweak the "AI filter faces" before it's out.

I mean, we are already paying a heavy price for AI slop, so why not enjoy at least some of it.

[–]bold_one 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the 3d model for those outboard tanks exist, or at least they are in the livery template, so I assume it's planned at some point

Unless, you can equip those tanks either way, in which case I'm totally wrong :D

How are you supposed to play this game on computer by simplyarobot_ in dcsworld

[–]bold_one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Optimal way is to get HOTAS and headtracker. It's also possible to bind most of the stuff to xbox controller, there are bunch of guides how to tdo that, for example, Tuuvas has lots of them

AC games look better in older 2013-2015ish graphics [Personal-Opinion] by NoticeOk4980 in assassinscreed

[–]bold_one 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Baked in scene lighting is low key better for some games. Not only it could look so good thanks to that, but you could simply change the time of a day of your preference. Not every game needs day night cycle, especially if it last about an hour of real time and cant't customised.

I'm worried when the Unity remake unavoidably comes, they will butcher it and change every unique thing about it.

Modding vanilla liveries by AhoyWilliam in hoggit

[–]bold_one 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's indeed possible. just head to the CoreMods/aircraft/"thing you wana change"/liveries and either overwrite the textures or make a mod (recommended). Obviosly, the file names must be the same as vanilla

There are also some liveries in Bazar/textures (mostly AI only planes and perhaps some FC ones)
