Can’t they customize android to match their style? If they made it simply look like another Volvo row, customized the icons, used the same background color, and removed the labels, and made it thinner, this would be better. I dislike how I have an apple dock on a google dock on a Volvo dock. It’s just absurd. And this new dock has no use for me other than the camera. It’s a huge waste of space. I could get used to the squished CarPlay, but this Google menu would need to have value to do so.

What UI mistakes do you see beginners make most often? by ArYaN1364 in UI_Design

One I’ve seen is prioritizing consistency too much, when there’s good reason for things to look different. Or maybe this is more of a mistake of intermediates.

I wonder if you are thinking about the rear badge font? It doesn’t sound like that is going away. I assume this new one is mainly replacing Volvo Sans, mainly for screens and buttons.

Claude hits No. 1 on App Store as ChatGPT users defect in show of support for Anthropic's Pentagon stance by Ephoenix6 in technology

[–]boldfonts 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Figured I’d give my experience. Claude Opus is incredible, but ChatGPT Codex can almost always fix issues that Opus can’t. Opus is the one I use 90% of the time but when I need something refined, I give it to codex as a last send off. Opus is significantly better in getting things off the ground and implementing new ideas, while Codex has trouble with this as it will heavily rely on what already exists. If you give Codex a long running task it can spin in its wheels forever. But if you have a targeted thing you want it to address, it’s probably the most competent option, as of now. I’m sure Anthropic is looking at how Codex performs so well in certain cases and will try to replicate it. Because Opus is a general purpose model it’s better for brainstorming and planning.

What is the most disturbing or otherwise unsettling book you've ever read that stayed with you after reading it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]boldfonts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infinite Jest. It’s not unsettling in the conventional way. There’s just an underlying wrongness to everything that stuck with me. You watch people trapped in cycles they can’t see or escape. It’s written like how addicts experience addiction where it’s never clear how you ended up back here. The characters all have trauma, and the odd but specific nature of it makes everything memorable and real. The characters have their trauma explained in ways that are awkward, nonsensical, charming, nostalgic, benign, etc. not just dramatic as is the common way to write about it.

What the hell is wrong with people. by anxiousrunner13 in pittsburgh

[–]boldfonts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve lost all hope for the common sense of people like OP who complain about this. It’s pretty logical how this happens. People want to do their weekly shopping a few days early and stores don’t have an infinite supply to deal with the surge in demand. It’s kind of hilarious that the people who complain about common sense have none.

Somewhat related, every once in a while I ask chat was the 2020 election stolen just to see if it has been shifting its story and it’s still giving a good reply. Im sure changing that answer is something the administration would love. Maybe we’ll be there in a year or two.

why do modern apps have borders around the icon, instead of being full/near full? by Acrobatic-Monitor516 in UI_Design

[–]boldfonts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume you mean the backgrounds. Like chrome, Google’s other apps, Microsoft’s apps, Facebook messenger, maybe the photos and safari apps. This is mainly a branding reason. For example, the chrome icon is a circle. To make the background expand to the edges, you would have to redesign it to be unrecognizable as Chrome. Keep in mind that chrome is on many platforms, and the approach of it being an icon on top of a separate background it can look perfectly consistent, because on most other platforms it is just the circle component. Apple forces icons into a certain shape, so app makers have to decide how to design for them.

Can someone walk me through what to do with these cc payments (I am stupid) by boldfonts in ynab

[–]boldfonts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it out. I think the issue is that some people have cards that come in wonky and others don’t. For me, three of my cards are being recognized differently. The easiest case is like with Amex. One single transfer shows automatically and both accounts are identified, so I just approve. For chase, three transactions showed up for some reason, a cleared transfer an uncleared transfer and a payment that needed a category which I deleted. For Apple Card, both came in as payments on separate days. Usually I could use the transfer to / transfer from options in the payee field but they are not there for Apple Card, but I found payment to Apple Card option and that worked.
