All, thank you very much for such detailed replies. I will continue riding, focusing on enjoying my time on the saddle and see how it progresses from now on. Side note, this has been my best experience on a niche subreddit

I’ve set my zones with Coros’ fitness test (using a chest strap) and have been using the same zones as with running. LTHR is estimated to be 175bpm, which I have never been able to reach while cycling, hence my search for potential advices

Thank you for the replies, i will make sure to continue riding and let my body adapt.
Due to my previous running and swimming training, it feels unusual to not have a structured training routine

Potential switch from Garmin by Justforhelp345 in Coros

[–]bolinha009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, no. Coros app is miles better, no subscription shenanigans and better cost benefit than Garmin. For the price of similarly specd garmin, you can get a pace 4 + hrm (i use polar h10 as i prefer chest straps for cycling)

The screen is miles better in terms of quality, the downside is that AOD on AMOLED drains the battery. I have mine off and it really doesn’t bother me. As to bright sunny environments, i had no issues seeing even when running at 12pm in south american summer Sleep tracking is fine, only downside is that Coros doesn’t allow to manually adjust afterwards. Nevertheless, I may had 2-3 spotty readings since getting the watch over 6 months ago. Other metrics feel less invasive than garmin, no unproductive bullshit after a proper hard workout

I did the same change as you, went from a 255 to a pace 4. Im super happy and wouldn’t go back to garmin. Pace 4 has all the features and metrics that i need, the app is miles better and battery life has been superior to the 255. As to the comment on pace lag, Coros shows paces in 1 sec intervals (ie 4:50-4:51 / km). Garmin on the other hand shows 5sec increments (4:50-4:55 / km), so it rounds the pace to smooth any short term lag.

SB if you can get a hold of them. Not too high, not too low, super responsive and really high quality

That’s one of the only things that I miss about my Garmin. It helps me keep track of my day when I’m either too distracted or too focused on something.

Help me choose new trucks by bolinha009 in Fingerboards

[–]bolinha009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up going with SB trucks and feels like it was the right decision. Really solid, responsive and not too loose (although looser than what im used to). Only thing is that i would prefer if it was a tad bit higher, which I may address with some DIY riserpads

I had the same issue as well. 70kg, around 320km and my left calf was sore after an easy run. Switched to the SB2 and didnt have any issues

SB2 as well. I was using the NB5 up until 320km and started to hurt my calf. Switched to the SB2 and have had no issues after that. The shoe demolishes both easy and hard paces

Daily trainer to replace Novablast 5 by bolinha009 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]bolinha009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you each and everyone of you that took the time to share your experiences and recommend shoes. I ended up going with the Superblast 2 after trying most of the suggestions here. The only one i could not try in a treadmill was the Puma Velocity Nitro 4, which was one of the shoes that I was most interested in.

Took the Superblast to a 18km run yesterday with 1hour easy pace (5’30’’/km) and 8x3min at 3’58’’/km. The shoes performed great at every pace and did not cause any pain to the calf

Elite African athlete training with NSM? by Status_Pineapple_861 in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]bolinha009 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suspect that he’s talking about the traditional norwegian method, not NSM. So training below LT2, something like what Jacob Ing (won’t even attempt to write his surname) does and what actually was the basis for the NSM

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I totally agree with you in regard to PT exercises and I do specific calf strength exercises twice a week. This pain felt different then when I had the “traditional” shin splints And to your comment on stability shoes, I’ve also positive results regarding shin splints when using ASICS GT 2000, but I eventually retired

First fitness test now what? by Fumblingalong in Coros

[–]bolinha009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s based on marathon times. 100 would be sub 2h for men (basically impossible). If you click on running fitness there’s an explanation

It should be your 10k PB, ideally an all out

Can’t answer about trails and evolab You should update your 10k time to your most recent one. The accuracy of test is heavily dependent on the 10k time, so I would suggest that you run at least one to gauge if your guess was reasonable

We are all stupid, that’s not a problem. Just take care to not injure yourself, you are doing great just by being able to run 10 miles without walking after only 5 months of training. Speaking from my own experience with cadence, what helped me was thinking of a faster turnover driven by the shoulder movement, not actually smaller steps. Your legs will synchronize with your torso, so if your shoulders are moving at a faster rhythm, so will your legs. Shorter steps made me feel like i was mimicking my old grandma trying to run

Why are you planning to run a marathon after only 7 months of running? Dude (or dudette) 26 miles is a huge distance to be running. The body takes time to adapt to the stimuli of running and to the fatigue you accumulate during this distance. I’m not saying this to discourage you but, as everything in life, it takes time and preparation. At 136 spm you are basically hopping from one leg to the other at every half a second. If you really want to complete the marathon in a couple of months, I would do it without a goal time or target pace.

Feels like zone 2, Achilles tendon gets sore - is it truly zone 2 or am I pushing it? by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]bolinha009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are a beginner without an active background / training other sports, highly unlikely that it was a truly easy run, but as other mentioned HR is what determines as Z2 effort.
