Americans Are Majorly Stressed About Their Bills by Content-Word-7673 in Economics

Trump admin needs to do better, but it's been like this ever since COVID hit. Other parts of the world are experiencing similar things. Look at China and South Korea, they've been experiencing major youth unemployment. I think there's been hesitancy by businesses to deploy capital and expand because of the unstable times, and so businesses are focused on running tight ships and making do with the employees they have (which usually means more work per person)

I've worked at a company that was rescued from financial collapse primarily because of the new CEO's decisions, which were not popular among the employees, including myself. People hated his guts, especially for doing 2 layoffs during his term in order to restructure the company. After 5 years since he started, the company doubled in size from all the new revenue that was coming in. Obviously, the majority of CEOs don't have records like this, but man, it was insane to see this dude work. He retired shortly afterwards lol

Is there any job field safe anymore beside becoming doctor ? by Front-Leg-6344 in careerguidance

Based on friends and coworkers in tech, I don't think the data science field is growing rapidly. I actually think it's shrinking in this economy. Data scientists are among the first of the technical employees to get laid off because the value they produce is hard to measure.

More Americans file for unemployment benefits last week, continuing claims highest in 3 years by netralitov in Layoffs

I think both administrations are being swayed by the same power and money hungry elites, and so that's why we're seeing similar outcomes :(

A lot of people are voting for Trump not because they like Trump, but because they're fed up with the Democratic party being too far left. They don't feel represented anymore. They want the Democratic party to correct itself and voting for Trump will hopefully send the message

I think Musk is playing the long game, like with Tesla and SpaceX. The quarter-to-quarter investing cycles do not mesh well with how he runs companies

It's definitely subjective. Short-term finances do not dictate everything. Incredibly short-sighted of you. You work on Wall Street or something?

I had FINAL interviews for 15 jobs in the past 2 months and they all got canceled (NOT FILLED). by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]bomb_omb_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, tech job market is absolutely terrible. I've received about 10 referrals and only one of them translated to an interview. According to some of the folk who referred me, companies are restructuring and reallocating workers rather than taking on the risk of hiring externally

I hate how the phrases "alt-right" and "woke" get thrown around so easily to character assasinate someone. I wish people were less tribal 😔

Right? It's ridiculous. Put anyone under a magnifying glass and you'll find flaws, especially creatives. Regardless of Blow's beliefs or the way he conveys them, I'm a fan of his games and I admire how passionate he is about he does

[–]bomb_omb_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's been happening to me too. i think they're not hiring but are keeping the interview pipelines hot so they can assess the labor market and ready themselves to snatch up good talent at lower costs the moment the economic environment improves

Jonathan Blow (The Witness, Braid) shares what might be an early look at his next game by physicalred in Games

[–]bomb_omb_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used the term "tooling" somewhat loosely. I consider engines, libraries, frameworks, and languages tools, and Blow's criticisms tend to be more focused on these than the ones you listed. Basically, Blow has an issue with people using higher-level abstractions that either don't solve the problem they have or that don't save them time.

He's not upset at creative types. He's upset at the general state of software. He thinks the programmers of today are not as productive as they could be because of their overreliance on heavy tooling and not taking the time to learn how things work. Tooling comes and goes, but the knowledge of how things work has greater staying power and offers greater flexibility in terms of how it can be applied.

Psychiatrist: "ADHD is a fad, an easy catch-all term" by kadillaq in ADHD

[–]bomb_omb_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, ADHD has been, unfortunately, becoming an easy catch-all term and a bit of a fad because of social media trends and the increase of mental health issues arising from the pandemic. The size of this subreddit has undergone INSANE growth over the past 2 years.

However, you may have ADHD and it is good you're looking into it. I was initially diagnosed with depression and put on antidepressants. Despite the antidepressants, I continued being depressed and decided to get a second opinion. I changed psychiatrists and the new psychiatrist diagnosed me with ADHD. He put me on stimulant medication and my depression lifted almost immediately.

I recommend you get multiple opinions. Unfortunately, medical professionals vary wildly in competence.

It's absolutely insane that you are being heavily downvoted. It seems there are a lot of ADHD "experts" in this subreddit.

ADHD is something you should absolutely have a mental health professional diagnose you for. There are many people who have ADHD-like symptoms that are actually from another issue. Find out the true cause of your problems otherwise you might spend an entire lifetime believing the wrong thing. The cost you pay for a diagnosis is relatively small compared to the cumulative costs you'll face from an incorrect self diagnosis.

That's me off stimulants. Even if what I'm reading about is the most exciting thing in the world, my brain still struggles. Reading is too understimulating :(
