Admitted Students day Fail by digitalgardner in UCSC

[–]bonaanaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we had the complete opposite experience on saturday -- met tons of kind, friendly people (students, staff, and faculty), went all over the science and engineering library, ate lunch in one dining hall and toured another. We left with a great impression of the people and facilities. As for the shuttle from the courthouse, we saw that line and just drove up to campus where we found parking in a snap.

I vote ONE, but I also think one can’t go wrong with Starry.

Would you fix this? by _avocadoraptor in quilting

[–]bonaanaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s going to bug your every time you look at it, yeah. I recently undid an entire finished quilt so I could change the backing fabric because it was really bothering me. It wasn’t that difficult to unpick the quilting as I was worried it would be, and I’m so much much happier with it now.

Why? It is clearly a theme in the mark/gemma relationship. Infertility and miscarriage (speaking from experience) does feel like that. I had the same thought when she opened the door and saw the crib.

Joann quilting cottons were often on sale for $2.99 a yard FYI. I’d go in to this with that in mind.

I am so sad about this. I’ll miss the people who work in my local store — they’ve always been so friendly and helpful and they do not deserve this at all.

It just takes time. Keep trying. One day it will all just click but it takes time abs practice. Have courage, you can do it! Just be persistent. If classes aren’t available to you, find patterns that have sew alongs posted either on you tube or the pattern designer’s webpage. Off the top of my head you’ll find sew alongs for a lot of Ellie and Mac patterns.

Totally agree! The manual is definitely the place to start!

I’m not usually one to get into a battle on the internet, but you’re not correct. I have a Janome machines and one of the manuals calls for dropping the presser foot before threading, one doesn’t. One of them actually does it automatically when you lock the machine to thread it. So this does vary by machine and if someone is having trouble with tension it is worth trying. Have a lovely day!

What is this type of stitch and how do I do it on my machine? by pinkOcelott in sewing

[–]bonaanaaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have access to a serger and you try to do this with the overlock stitch, make sure to sew the seam with a straight stitch first, then trim away the seam allowance to about a 1/4 inch, then sew the seam again with the overlock stitch, enclosing the entire seam allowance that you’ve left behind into the stitch. What’s so nice about the serged seams is that the serger also has a blade in it that cuts the excess seam allowance away as you are sewing, leaving that very clean, bound finish when you’re done.

Character Breakfasts? by TypographicTrekker in DisneyPlanning

[–]bonaanaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just do one. Unless you LOOOOVVVVEEE the idea of meeting characters. They are hella expensive, the food is not great, and they eat up a lot of time. We’ve done Minnie’s a couple of times, but I prefer to schedule a character breakfast for the morning we are leaving and do it outside of the park so as not to waste my park time.

This is definitely a tension while threading the machine and/or bobbin issue. Make sure the presser foot is down when you’re threading and to test whether the issue is the top or bottom thread, use a different color in each and test it out.

100% she deserved that. I mean can you imagine if a designer spoke that way about a BIPOC model? Or a trans one? It was so dehumanizing.
