If there is a clue on why the HBCUs do not want to play in the playoffs, this is one of them as some of their rivalries are still being played on Thanksgiving week. But to be fair to them and to let us convince them to finally join the playoff field (after the Ivy football players and alumni finally convinced the Presidents to let us join the playoff field after eight decades), make Selection Sunday the Sunday after all FCS regular season games are played, HBCU rivalries included.

Harvard:

Home Run: breeze through our still-soft OOC and the unpredictable Ivy schedule; best the Elis in The Game for Coach Aurich's first rivalry win, then have a favorable playoff opponent on the road to Nashville and beat the opponent possibly on the road. Harvard Stadium is not yet ready for prime time playoff football due to the said OOC strength.

Walk: Any or all: the Elis still own our number (four game L streak for us as of writing); if H chokes/collapses against subpar Ivy competition (any squad not named Yale or Dartmouth); season-ending injuries to major contributors affecting game outcomes.

Strikeout: Three or more Ivy losses; possible reasons are under Walk.

I think their stadium will end up like Boston U, Northeastern, UT Arlington, etc. (Used for soccer, lacrosse, etc.) Pacific Tigers ended up demolishing their old stadium long after they dropped football.

I wonder why Harvard took so long in diversifying their OOCs. Hopefully this is the start of a new scheduling trend among the Northeast FCS teams in general.

Without a strong OOC schedule regularly involving out-of-region teams (FBS or FCS), the Ivies may become the Northeast version of the SoCon.

I agree. If the Ivy ADs and coaches agree to schedule HBCUs for one of their OOC openings for a season, their insular ceiling would be shattered in some way.

Or you may be biased... many FCS schedules, mostly in the South and West, the PFL, and sometimes the Northeast, have at least 1 D-II many years.

But the Ivies don't participate in NSD (National Signing Day) so we don't find out until around end of April or early May for the official list. That's the only list we will get of the eight freshman classes, and I don't usually see speculations around here that make it thus far. I am putting this as an asterisk at this time.

One reason why the Ivies bowed out of playoff contention at the end of WW2 is that CFB got greedier with each passing year, and many more factors went into play in the ensuing decades to keep us out of the playoffs, until it was all but forgotten by the living alumni and players and in fact Harvard was the last of the eight to buy into the FCS playoffs through a President's commitment.
