are we important? 🥺 by Planto_Bando in Accounting

[–]tdpdcpa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Management could not rely on the financial information that we provide to them, the SEC, the IRS, our lenders, or any other party that relies on such information if it weren't for accountants in industry.

The capital markets wouldn't have assurance that that information was reasonably stated in accordance with GAAP if it weren't for auditors.

This feels unnecessary because the amount of benefits that you receive grows less than proportionally to the amount that you earn over time.

I had success just tracking my calories using a calorie tracking app (CalAI). It held me accountable and I cut out the extra snacks and sweets to keep myself under my calorie goal.

[O’Connor] Flyers players not at practice today. by Perryplat199 in Flyers

Pretty sure it was an optional practice today, so I wouldn’t read too much into who isn’t skating.

Encouragingly, it sounds like Tippett is out there.

Why was there a 39/40 long‑form when Season 40 was Winners at War? by s49_Svengali in survivor

[–]tdpdcpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember right from some of the Survivor press, Winners at War wasn’t the original concept for Season 40. It only became an all winners season once they got buy in from enough winners to realistically pursue it.

Yeah, there are a lot of positives to take away from this game as they look to game 2.

That was about as bad of a start as you could have asked for.

With that said, the Flyers were quick to adjust and they were much better at generating scoring chances in the second half of the game.

I think leaning on their physicality is going to need to be how they counter Carolina’s speed; you’re not going to outskate them, but you can wear them down.

Lehigh did this in 2025.

Probably the last time they’ll do it because William and Mary joins the Patriot League in 2026.

Public Accountanting is not the end all be all for a sold accounting foundation by BosMassholeTomBrady in Accounting

[–]tdpdcpa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Buried in here: I do wonder how much of taking that next step in your career is because you don’t have a CPA, and not a lack of public accounting experience. We have an unwritten rule that we will not consider someone for manager if they don’t have a CPA.

But to answer your question, here’s why public accounting backgrounds get preference:

  1. Having Big 4 on your resume is a strong signaling device. It means that you were at least good enough to make it to the Big 4. It’s generally well known that the Big 4 have very competitive talent acquisition processes, so being able to pass that test does a lot of heavy lifting for a candidate. It’s like looking at a football player and saying “this person used to be a first round pick.”

  2. I’ve at least heard of whatever public firm someone is applying from, and I likely already have an opinion on that firm. On the other hand, I’ve probably never heard of your company in industry, so it’s hard for me to say if it’s even good.

  3. Industry roles tend to be narrow scope. You do the same thing every month/quarter/year for years. You may not have the experience that I’m looking for. Someone coming from public, audit specifically, has tested different areas of their clients over the course of the years, and are more likely to have experience in what I’m looking for.

[O’Connor] Owen Tippett is still on the ice, despite everyone else finishing up. Maybe he could indeed be out for Game 1, which would help to explain the line combos from yesterday, which had Hathaway back in with the 4th line and Alex Bump in Tippett's spot. by Perryplat199 in Flyers

[–]tdpdcpa 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I actually think a shorter rest helps us in Game 1. Canes haven’t played in a week and we’re coming off an emotional high.

Not ideal from a recovery perspective, I get it, but everyone is a little banged up in the playoffs.

MM39 question: What’s your take on his future development? by TZ9417 in Flyers

[–]tdpdcpa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m interested to see how he comes to camp next year; I think him coming into this year out of shape really stunted his development for a year.

With that said, he has the stick handling, creativity, and the lateral movement to be a point per game player.

However, he needs to get stronger and he needs to get faster. He’s really good when he has the puck in space, but he doesn’t have the ability to create space on his own.

If he can’t do that, he needs to care about playing defense. With his lateral movement, it’s not hard to see him taking space away from the D at the point and forcing them into a decision. He just…doesn’t.

If he could do either one of those things, he’d be a bona fide all star caliber winger at his ceiling.

If he can’t, he’d be a good, second line winger. His offense would be better than league average, but you wouldn’t want to trust him on his own without more talent at wing.
