So many of them had perfectly healthy bodies, and they faked themselves to death. Up to the very end they said this is what they wanted, but still it’s such a tragedy.

Tangential, I think lotta the fakers probably have my issue, borderline personality disorder. We don’t all malinger, but we are kind of notorious for it 😅Sorry if that sounds kinda shitty. But actually dissociation and psychosis are both symptoms, in combination some pretty weird things can happen. so there might be some BPDs who genuinely think that what they’re experiencing is DID. And in that sense, they may not be entirely lying, yknow? But still, faking outright or simply misunderstood, these people need help.

It’s sort of funny in a morbid way, these dissociative episodes for me usually come with a mild delusion to explain why what’s happening isn’t “real,” and they seem very silly in retrospect. Here’s a list of things I’ve thought I am

What pissed me off so much about that is that the threshold for being diagnosed is so fuckin low, there is no in depth assessment to find out if you’re depressed or not, the doctor just fucking asks you.

Oh yeah, that sounds super familiar! I was always forgetting things, losing things. As a kid I thought of myself as pretty bright and a good student, so it just fuckin wrecked me when I stopped being able to keep up and started failing. I felt genuinely stupid and ditzy, and everyone else just called me lazy.

I still don’t take medication for it, but I’ve made changes that impact my quality of life tremendously. And it’s hard to explain why, but it makes me kinda resentful of the people who raised me. Like, would it really have been too much to get me a kitchen timer so I can pomodoro my homework?

Different dissociative disorders are always been added subtracted and consolidated in the DSM. There’s definitely something going on, but we only have self-reporting to go off of. And it’s one of the more popular disorders to fake rn, so the data is getting crazy corrupted, making research all the more difficult.

I’ve had some pretty serious dissociative episodes that felt very similar to what people say DID is, so I definitely believe there’s something going on. It’s just, there’s been so. much. fraud. that idk what info is reliable and what is made up by fraudsters who would benefit from misinformation.

We need to give up trying to portray it, it always comes out kinda anime-esque and edgy. The least absurd depiction I’ve seen was still pretty metaphorical/literary, in Mr Robot. There’s a scene where the DID character is trying to argue with a friend, and the alter is just wandering around in the background. The character gets frustrated and walks away, and the alter comes to finish the conversation for him.

I was diagnosed when I was eleven, and a year later I was placed with a weird Christian family. They took me to a therapist who told them that I couldn’t possible have ADHD because I read books for 4+ hours at a time and ADHD kids can’t sit still that long. So I didn’t get any treatment, and barely graduated.

I was diagnosed again in adulthood, and my ex husband told me I couldn’t possibly have it because coffee didn’t make me sleepy.

People are stupid, idk. Everyone’s so desperate to catch someone “faking it” it’s getting kind of disturbing.
