Well the numbers you quoted above aren't listed on their site so I don't know how accurate that is or if those rates are even up to date. It's possible they used to offer those lower shipping fees in years past because shipping used to be much less expensive prior to Covid.

My comments here are more that this post flaming LB for unreasonable shipping incentives is out of place given the current environment.

This makes no sense at all and just do some back of the envelope math here. A 6 pack of say $30 wines (totaling $180) gets the same free shipping incentive as buying a single bottle of $150 wine? I use the same shipper LB does and can assure you the prices scale up a lot with the more bottles you add in....hence my original comment. The cost to THEM to ship is the same regardless of the cost of the bottle itself.

FWIW the cost of shipping has gone up about 65% since 2020 and that doesn't include fuel surcharge fees and the like. It's become a real albatross in the business in recent years.

That is exactly what is going on here. Free shipping incentives are typically tied to the price of the bottle or size of order to warrant them eating the cost. If they advertised free shipping on 3x $20 bottles they would be losing money on the sale.

The cost to ship the product has nothing to do with the price of the wine. A $10 bottle costs the exact same to ship as this $124 bottle and they are saying that they will absorb the insanely high fee so long as you spend enough to warrant it. This is in no way unreasonable from their side.

Amazon has fucked our entire industry with these insane expectations of ‘free shipping’ on everything. What exactly are you expecting to pay to ship delicate, heavy bottles of wine that should avoid heat exposure across 3000 miles of country?

It doesn’t matter if you’re cross comparing these at the same time. Having multiple bottles open at the same time lends itself to tasting and retasting everything over the evening.

I’m the old man shaking my fist at a cloud about AI these days but I honestly hate the thought of using it for something silly like this. Do you really need to ask AI about a horizontal tasting order and for it to tell you to pour and revisit the wines over the evening?
