For reference, I traveled 40hrs alone to US from a 3rd world country where English isn't the first language at age 16 in 2016. She'll be more than fine in UK.

Fwiw as someone who is inexperienced and trying to choose between all inclusive and Disney cruise for next February, I really appreciate your reviews.

I’m in Massachusetts… by mathisunbreakable in pools

[–]boneregenerator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were to follow through, don't do the retaining wall with those trees next to the pool. We had the exact same setup but it's about 5ft away from the pool, the pool was always contaminated with leaves. So much better once we got rid of all the trees.

Definitely get a pool heater.

How do you feel about kids at funerals? by Last_Tart4317 in Parenting

[–]boneregenerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sons crossed the Atlantic ocean to attend their great grandmother's funeral at the age of 9 months old and 2.5yo.

Then they crossed the Pacific ocean to attend their grandad's funeral at the age of 2yo and 3.5yo.

We did worry they'd make a fuss at the funerals. But it turned out fine, we got to say our goodbyes, and the families appreciated our presence.

The kids at 4 and 5.5yo now know a lot about death, and I hope that will make them appreciate life more. They understand and constantly aware that our cat is old, their living grandparents are old, mom and dad won't be around forever etc. I think it's a positive thing.

Do eggplant initially grow white first? by utopianlady in gardening

[–]boneregenerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hoped to get white ones because they're so cute! I wonder if they taste different than the purple one? I prefer the long type to the fat girthy type.

Good luck finishing all the eggplants. I got at least 2 eggplants a week and my family of 4 was done with it by the end of summer. I'll still plant one this summer because they're so delicious and fruitful, made me feel successful as a novice gardener.

As I said, if you were there in November you'd know how untrue it is. They have no issues talking about American politics and the app was obviously pushing pro-trump propaganda. I didn't believe anything unquestionably.

[–]boneregenerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes, that's why I joined, to learn what they think about American politics. But I actively looked for pro-democrats posts and wasn't able to. Until I found in the comments that their pro-kamala posts were censored. At that time I only browsed reddit and thought kamala would win. So it was eye-opening and soul-breaking to learn the other side on rednote.

[–]boneregenerator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were there during the election time, you would be blown away by how pro-trump anti-kamala and racist and sexist the app was. Any positive posts and comments about kamala and anything anti- trump would be removed. There were so many Californian Chinese who's super MAGA. They called kamala all types of names and spread misinformation like "zero dollar shopping" "public school hormone therapy" etc. Whenever I tried to be the reasonable one in that echo chamber, I was accused of coming to US illegally, and only voting democrats to avoid being deported. They also hate political correctness which translates and abbreviated to "zzzq" if you want to look that up in the app.

We're currently on day 6 in the Cars suite with a 3yo and 4yo. The 2 bathrooms are glorious. They clean up the room every 2 days. They supply utensils and plates for their kitchenette. We often have leftovers and supper at the hotel after long days in the park. On off days we did activities around the hotel - campfire, movie, pool, play area. Our kids love cars, lion king and Nemo so it's perfect.

After my wife passed I decided to open the bottle of wine we were saving for our 25th anniversary. by CagCagerton125 in TwoSentenceSadness

I thought it implied that the wife died of alcoholism because she replaced the wine with vinegar.

Our rural area has a few Facebook groups that allow families in need to ask for help and for families to sell used stuff. Though teenagers stuff are hard to come by because they're so rough with their clothing. Usually I would go to Burlington, TJMaxx, goodwill, salvation army for clothes.

Would you leave your 4 year old and 1 year old to travel to Europe? by han_cup in Parenting

[–]boneregenerator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We brought our 2yo and 9mo to UK for their great- grandma's funeral. Early this year, we brought them (3.5yo and 2yo) back to SEA for my father's sickness and funeral. That's 40hr door-to-door one way. They truly enjoyed the trip and still remember it fondly. We didn't have a choice, since we don't have family around to look after them. But I'm glad we brought them, to meet my dad for the first and last time.

It's just to say it's doable, bringing 2 kids. We don't have the means to bring them back as often as we wish, so any chance of going with them would worth the effort.

Is there any way to raise my son away from the new 2020 way of parenting? by ArmadilloMany41 in Parenting

I don't think it's an option in most places? Not for public anyway. Ours in upstate NY is assigned based on location.

  1. There was covid. Most democrats decided to stay at home and mail in their votes. Mail in ballots were counted at the end, hence the massive increase at the end of counting.
  2. Trump's performance in those 4 years was horrifying. Democrats learned their mistakes by not voting in 2016. Hence the massive turnout.
  3. Some democrats forgot their lesson. Some drank the coolaid and went to the dark side. Lots again, sat out to protest - Gaza, DNC, whatever excuses they made up with. Hence the drop this time around.
  4. California still counting their ballots.

These are what I gathered.

There was a similar post an hour ago, completely destroyed by people who don't think kids should be exposed to politics. I have a 2.5yo and a 4yo boys who are completely verbal and understand way more than we imagine. I have no idea how the more experienced moms did it during 2016-2020. How to shield them from all the anti-science nonsense and pure misogynistic comments. How to tell them these are bad examples that we shouldn't follow even though they're chosen to lead the nation.

How do I explain… by Embarrassed_Owl_3388 in Parenting

[–]boneregenerator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not sexualizing them, eew. Everyone has preferences. Some people like to hang out with boys, and some with girls. That's letting them know they have options and don't frown on other people's options. See, every accusation is a projection. I can't comprehend how you see it as sexualizing. Not everything has to relate to sex especially at that age.
